INTRODUCCIÓN En general, siempre se ha considerado a la Filosofía como una disciplina austera ocupada por temas estrictamente abstractos y principios universales casi ininteligibles, que ofrece preguntas pero nunca proporciona respuestas. Consecuencia de ello es, probablemente, el declive progresivo que ha ido sufriendo en nuestro país y, sobretodo, dentro del mundo de la enseñanza, donde si ya no existía demasiado interés por las asignaturas de ámbito filosófico, las nuevas medidas educativas propuestas por la LOMCE las deja directamente en un segundo plano. Todo ello pone en peligro la pervivencia de la filosofía no sólo en Educación Secundaria y Bachillerato, sino también en la educación superior, puesto que buena parte de los estudiantes de las facultades de Filosofía obtienen su vocación en Secundaria o Bachillerato. Por tanto, es indiscutible que la Filosofía está sufriendo una grave crisis en España, no sólo en el ámbito social, sino también en el relativo a la enseñanza. -

1997 SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL The 1997 Sundance Film Festival continued to attract crowds, international attention and an appreciative group of alumni fi lmmakers. Many of the Premiere fi lmmakers were returning directors (Errol Morris, Tom DiCillo, Victor Nunez, Gregg Araki, Kevin Smith), whose earlier, sometimes unknown, work had received a warm reception at Sundance. The Piper-Heidsieck tribute to independent vision went to actor/director Tim Robbins, and a major retrospective of the works of German New-Wave giant Rainer Werner Fassbinder was staged, with many of his original actors fl own in for forums. It was a fi tting tribute to both Fassbinder and the Festival and the ways that American independent cinema was indeed becoming international. Pepe Serna Statement for the Record September 24, 2020 My name is Pepe Serna, I am a Mexican American film, television, and theatrical actor. I am also a visual artist and motivational speaker who believes that art is the essence of who we are as human beings. My purpose for addressing Congress via this statement is to issue a CALL TO ACTION to address and resolve the lack of inclusiveness and diversity in the entertainment industry. I challenge each and every one of you become more familiar and aware of the struggles and challenges that we as Latino Hollywood actors, producers, directors, technicians, and others supporting our trade face in our day-to-day activities. While I’m addressing primarily Latinos in this statement, I also speak for our minority populations, who also face pay discrimination and prejudice in this industry. Diversity is not just black and white – like vintage films. Just as movies and television have transitioned to technicolor, so should the entertainment industry transition to represent all people of color and sexual orientation. Let me set the stage so that you can judge for yourself that I know what I am talking about and that my Call to Action has merit. For the last 50 years, I have worked with Oscar-winning producers, writers, directors, and actors in 100 films and 300 television shows. I have given hundreds upon hundreds of improvisational workshops around the country. My lifelong passion, next to being an actor, has been to teach character education through my “Pepefied Breakthrough Improv.” These workshops teach students and adults alike how to Connect, Communicate and Collaborate. -
Banc One to Host Gala Premiere of "Selena," Feature Film on the Life of Grammy-Winning Music Star
Banc One to host gala premiere of "Selena," feature film on the life of Grammy-winning music star DENVER, CO, March 14, 1997--Banc One Corp. (NYSE: ONE) will host gala premieres of "Selena," the Warner Bros. feature film which chronicles the life of the highly acclaimed Tejano music star, Selena Quintanilla. The premiere will be held in Denver at Mann's Cherry Creek Theatre in Cherry Creek Mall on March 17 at 7:30 p.m. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the National Council of La Raza. The film is scheduled for nationwide release on March 21. At a screening in Corpus Christi, Texas, Banc One presented a $10,000 donation to "Selena" star Edward James Olmos on behalf of the Selena Foundation, an organization which provides resources to children's charities and funds scholarships for children who aspire to join the entertainment industry. Banc One is the exclusive financial sponsor of the film and will have the right to use the film name, logos and images. Next month, the company intends to begin offering checks and a One Card with Selena's image. "BANC ONE has had a long standing presence in Colorado, and we are continually seeking ways to demonstrate our commitment to customers in this area," said Kenneth T. Stevens, chairman and CEO of the Banc One National Retail Group. "BANC ONE's sponsorship of `Selena' underscores its commitment to the Hifontic community and supports the bank's efforts to become a premier national financial services provider." Basic Questions for the analysis of films Plot, title, enigma: 1. What is this movie about? This movie is about a father and son, Carlos and Luis, who live in East L.A. Carlos is a landscaper who is trying to make a better life for him and his son while also trying to keep Luis away from gang life. Luis is Carlos’ fifteen year old son whose girlfriend is affiliated with a gang. The story shows how the father and son come together in the goal to make a better life for themselves in a tough time. 2. If applicable, what is the historic reference? There is no historical reference. The film is based on a current issue. 3. What is the meaning of the opening scene? How does it set up the expectations for the rest of the film? The opening scene shows Carlos getting up and going to work as a landscaper. They show his drive through the poorer part of town he lives in and into the nicer neighborhoods he works in. When he goes home for the night, we see that he and Luis are living in a one bedroom. It shows what class they are and what Carlos has to do each day to support them. 4. Whose story is it? It is the story of Carlos and Luis but also of illegal immigrants as a community. It shows what life is like for them and the difficulties they face. Specifically, arguments could be made for it being Carlos’ or Luis’s story. It could be Luis’ story because Carlos has the same goals and motivations throughout the film- trying to make a life for him and is son. -

In particular, film directors have created alternative models for Latinas who migrate within cities in the U.S. and across transnational borders signifying a domestic and global expansion of Latinidad. This study focuses on Chicanas’ and Latinas’ journeys to control their bodies and minds in the context of urban migrations between the cultures of Latin America and the United States in two cinematic narratives. In the post-2000 decade, two criti- cally acclaimed independent films, Real Women Have Curves (2002) and María Full of Grace (2004), have depicted Latina adolescents coming of age in transnational cities, Bogotá, Los Angeles, and New York, to demonstrate how the politics of the body and mind can affect the dynamics of family relationships and the division of labor within the larger scheme of globalization. While Real Women Have Curves portrays the bildungsroman of Ana García, a Mexican American female adolescent growing up in an East Los Angeles neighborhood, María Full of Grace traces the experiences of María Alvarez, a young Colombian female transforming into womanhood from a small town in Colombia to the capital, Bogotá, and eventually to New York City.
