HOW TO PLAN YOUR FESTIVAL FOS 2018 WEEKEND PREVIEW EDITION

The Silver Jubilee Festival of Speed is just days away and I’ve been thinking back to our very first one in June 1993. It was just two days then, with some practice on the Saturday, and timed runs on Sunday. Of course, there was no Central Feature, just a tiny exhibition area, and not enough loos! I will never forget that first morning, looking out of my bedroom window, and seeing thousands of fans coming up Cathedral Walk towards the House. We really had no idea how many people would come, no idea if Goodwood still meant anything to anyone in terms of cars and motorsport. We soon found out, and were blown away by the excitement and enthusiasm. We were advised that 3-4000 might come, but the figure was more like 25,000! Everything has changed and yet nothing has changed. The ethos of the Festival remains exactly as it was all those years ago. The event is still driven by content and design, and we still aim to make the absolute best cars and motorcycles as accessible as possible. Just as importantly, we strive to get the right drivers and riders into those cars, and onto those bikes. The Festival is bigger, has more breadth and depth, but the growth has been organic and gradual. Thanks to your support, your enthusiasm and your response to what we do, we will hopefully celebrate our Silver Jubilee in style. Be prepared for a lot of noise and a lot of dramatic action.
