Master Splinter, the Turtles’ surrogate rat father and Ninjitsu master, sends Leonardo to South America to complete his training and to retrieve a medallion known to possess mystical powers. Back in New York, Raphael has secretly taken on the Nightwatcher persona. Roaming the streets at night, showing extreme prejudice toward his enemies, the dark vigilante quickly becomes a target for the law and is not welcomed by some citizens. Donatello and Michelangelo have their own business, the Cowabunga Carl party service for kids. Michelangelo, humorous as ever, dresses in a turtle costume and tries to entertain hyperactive kids for a few bucks, while his geeky brother Donatello attempts to keep the family finances balanced. When the Turtles reunite, tension builds between Leo and Raph. Meanwhile, the family must struggle to find answers to the latest monster appearances and the implications of a mysterious billionaire who appears to be linked to the Foot Clan. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo – are forced to fight through adversity to keep their family unified, and must battle against evil in an action-packed, ninja-fighting adventure. The fate of the family is in your hands! PLAY THE GAME Start Menu Press the Enter key to begin. Create Profile Create a profile for your saved game. Family HUD Family Bond Meter This meter is an indicator of how impressive your moves are to the other Turtles. Experiment by combining moves during acrobatics and combat to defeat your enemies! But remember, if you call upon your brothers’ aid unwisely, you may lose their respect and have to work harder to get them to help you again. Cooldown Meter Once a Turtle has done a co-op maneuver, he needs a few moments to recuperate. This meter shows how long he will be unable to do another co-op move. Playing Nightwatcher Health Indicator Displays the Nightwatcher’s health status. Rage Meter The Rage meter is filled by causing damage to enemies. SPECIAL MOVES Acrobatics Jump/Double-Jump Hold the Space Bar to jump – the longer you hold it, the higher you’ll jump. Press the Space Bar again while in the air to cause the Turtle to double-jump and gain even more height. Walling (Vertical and Horizontal) Pressing against a wall while in the air will cause the Turtle to run against it. Depending on the angle you choose, the Turtle can run along the wall or straight up it! Bird Flip Press the Space Bar while the Turtle is against a wall to allow him to jump off the wall. Keep doing this from wall to wall to climb tricky areas. Pole Swing Jump onto any pole to grab it. Press the Space Bar to jump off. Ledge (Grab and Run) Many edges can be grabbed by the Turtles if they touch them. If the ledge is long enough, use the W, A, S, D or Arrow keys, or Numpad 8, 4, 2, or 6 to make the Turtle run along it. To drop off a ledge, press the Shift, Z, or Comma key. To leap away from a ledge use the W, A, S, D or Arrow keys, or Numpad 8, 4, 2, or 6 and press Space Bar. Try leaping from ledge to ledge! Safety Roll When falling and about to hit the ground, press the W, A, S, D or Arrow keys, or Numpad 8, 4, 2, or 6 in the direction you are moving and hold the Ctrl, X, or Period key to do a safety roll. Leo’s Shadow Warp Leo is able to use deep meditation to pass through certain objects like gates and iron bars. To use this move, walk up to the object and press the C, Slash, Caps, or Enter key. Don’s Bo Vault Don can use his Bo Staff to leap between low ceilings and deep pits. To perform this move, press the C, Slash, Caps, or Enter key while Don is standing on the ground. Mike’s Nunchuck Helicopter While Michelangelo is in the air, press and hold the C, Slash, Caps, or Enter key to do the Nunchuck Helicopter. This will allow him to fly for a short period of time. Raph’s Power Climb Using his incredible power and unique weapons, Raph can climb walls other Turtles can’t. Get close to one of the specially identified walls, and hold the C, Slash, Caps, or Enter key while moving in the desired direction to begin climbing it. Brother Throw Press the Alt key while one Turtle is in the air to do a co-op throw with the help of another Turtle. This is a great way to make very long jumps and overcome certain obstacles.

  • Video Games and the Mobilization of Anxiety and Desire
PLAYING THE CRISIS: VIDEO GAMES AND THE MOBILIZATION OF ANXIETY AND DESIRE BY ROBERT MEJIA DISSERTATION Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Communications in the Graduate College of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2012 Urbana, Illinois Doctoral Committee: Professor Kent A. Ono, Chair Professor John Nerone Professor Clifford Christians Professor Robert A. Brookey, Northern Illinois University ABSTRACT This is a critical cultural and political economic analysis of the video game as an engine of global anxiety and desire. Attempting to move beyond conventional studies of the video game as a thing-in-itself, relatively self-contained as a textual, ludic, or even technological (in the narrow sense of the word) phenomenon, I propose that gaming has come to operate as an epistemological imperative that extends beyond the site of gaming in itself. Play and pleasure have come to affect sites of culture and the structural formation of various populations beyond those conceived of as belonging to conventional gaming populations: the workplace, consumer experiences, education, warfare, and even the practice of politics itself, amongst other domains. Indeed, the central claim of this dissertation is that the video game operates with the same political and cultural gravity as that ascribed to the prison by Michel Foucault. That is, just as the prison operated as the discursive site wherein the disciplinary imaginary was honed, so too does digital play operate as that discursive site wherein the ludic imperative has emerged. To make this claim, I have had to move beyond the conventional theoretical frameworks utilized in the analysis of video games.

  • TURTLE OOZE by George Gerbner Oozing Its Way Onto the Video
1 TURTLE OOZE By George Gerbner oozing its way onto the video screens is the record breaking marketing sensation and glorification of the martial-arts, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and its sequel appropriately named "The Secret of the Ooze." with 133 acts of mayhem per hour, they are the most violent films ever marketed to children. Nothing can prepare the unwary for the expertly choreographed brutality, wisecracking misanthropy, and rock rap-rhythmic slashery crammed into one sick spectacle. Males fight, torture, gorge themselves on pizza (brand names prominently displayed), burn, crush, mutilate and kill. One lone mini-miniskirted sex object (intrepid reporter bossed by boorish editors) is assaulted, scared, victimized, and rescued at least three times. Finally she, too, kills and earns an appreciative "You're a natural, Sis!" The only other major woman character is the victim of an old blood- feud played out on the streets of New York's Little Tokyo. She is seen only once, briefly, sprawled on the ground, brutally murdered. When asked why the Turtles are all male, "We have stayed away from a girl Turtle," said the director of Mirage Studios where the Turtles were spawned. "It would raise the issue of sex ... " Good, clean, macho fun is so important that Surge Licensing, Inc., manager of Turtle copyright worldwide, includes in every contract a prohibition of licensee behavior "detrimental to the Turtles reputation." To enhance that reputation, Surge announced its participation in Partnership for a Drug-Free America "to help reach into America's 130,000 schools with a message to help kids stay off drugs." (And possibly stay addicted to Turtles.) It may have been a bit embarrassing when Eric Millan-Colon and 29 of his cohorts in the Blue Thunder drug ring were arrested for having supplied heroin to New York and used the proceeds to buy the Argentinian rights to "Los Tortugas Ninjas," which replaced Batman, the previous global movie mania.

“YOU’VE SEEN THE MOVIE, NOW PLAY THE VIDEO GAME”: RECODING THE CINEMATIC IN DIGITAL MEDIA AND VIRTUAL CULTURE Stefan Hall A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY May 2011 Committee: Ronald Shields, Advisor Margaret M. Yacobucci Graduate Faculty Representative Donald Callen Lisa Alexander © 2011 Stefan Hall All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Ronald Shields, Advisor Although seen as an emergent area of study, the history of video games shows that the medium has had a longevity that speaks to its status as a major cultural force, not only within American society but also globally. Much of video game production has been influenced by cinema, and perhaps nowhere is this seen more directly than in the topic of games based on movies. Functioning as franchise expansion, spaces for play, and story development, film-to-game translations have been a significant component of video game titles since the early days of the medium. As the technological possibilities of hardware development continued in both the film and video game industries, issues of media convergence and divergence between film and video games have grown in importance. This dissertation looks at the ways that this connection was established and has changed by looking at the relationship between film and video games in terms of economics, aesthetics, and narrative. Beginning in the 1970s, or roughly at the time of the second generation of home gaming consoles, and continuing to the release of the most recent consoles in 2005, it traces major areas of intersection between films and video games by identifying key titles and companies to consider both how and why the prevalence of video games has happened and continues to grow in power.
