Moció Per Millorar El Servei De Rodalies Renfe a Catalunya Que Presenta L'equip De Govern De L'ajuntament De Palau-Solità

LACCEI Paper
Fourth LACCEI International Latin American and Caribbean Conference for Engineering and Technology (LACCET’2006) “Breaking Frontiers and Barriers in Engineering: Education, Research and Practice” 21-23 June 2006, Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. Innovative Techniques in Planning and Finance of Public Transportation Projects: Lessons Learned and its Applications Ildefonso Burgos-Gil, PE, MCE General Manager for Mass Transit Development, Puerto Rico Highway and Transportation Authority, San Juan, PR, USA, [email protected] Abstract The International Transit Studies Program (ITSP) conducts two study missions each year to provide transit managers from across the United States the opportunity to examine public transportation practices in other countries and regions, with the goal of encouraging innovation domestically. The program is sponsored by the Transit Cooperative Research Program (TCRP), funded by the Federal Transit Administration, and managed by the Eno Transportation Foundation. The subject for the 2005 Fall Study Mission was Innovative Techniques in Planning and Finance of Public Transportation Projects. The mission studied systems in Barcelona, Spain; Copenhagen, Denmark; Shanghai, China; and Osaka, Japan. As a participant, the author had the opportunity to meet with the managers for the different systems and learn and document the experience. This paper presents a more detailed insight on the author’s assigned studied systems in Barcelona, the way it has been integrated to become an effective transit system, its financial model, the lessons learned and its possible applications in Puerto Rico and elsewhere. Keywords integration, transit, planning, finance, public private partnership 1. Introduction The International Transit Studies Program (ITSP) conducts two study missions each year to provide transit managers from across the United States the opportunity to examine public transportation practices in other countries and regions, with the goal of encouraging innovation domestically. -
Manresa and Saint Ignatius of Loyola
JOAN SEGARRA PIJUAN was born in Tárrega, Spain on June 29, 1926. He joined the Society of Jesus in 1942. Seventeen years later he completed his religious and cultural education. On July 29, 1956 – in the Year of Saint Ignatius – he was ordained at the cathedral in Manresa. He has spent much of his life in Veruela, Bar- celona, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Palma (Majorca), Raimat, Rome and Man- resa and has also lived in a number of countries in Central and South Ameri- ca, Africa and Europe. He has always been interested in spi- ritual theology and the study of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. SAINT IGNA- TIUS AND MANRESA describes the Saint’s sojourn here in a simple, rea- dable style. The footnotes and exten- sive bibliography will be of particular interest to scholars wishing the study the life of St. Ignatius in greater de- tail. This book deals only with the months Saint Ignatius spent in Man- resa, which may have been the most interesting part of his life: the months of his pilgrimage and his mystical en- lightenments. Manresa is at the heart of the Pilgrim’s stay in Catalonia because “between Ignatius and Man- resa there is a bond that nothing can break” (Torras y Bages). A copy of this book is in the Library at Stella Maris Generalate North Foreland, Broadstairs, Kent, England CT10 3NR and is reproduced on line with the permission of the author. -

Chairman’s Letter Dear Shareholders, Once again I am pleased to have the opportunity to address you with a summary of the evolution and most significant events of the Acesa Group in the past financial year. On this occasion, moreover, allow me to advance that 2001 was an especially significant and important year in the history of our company. It was significant for three motives. Firstly, because Acesa showed that it is a Group which is able to broaden and diversify its investments, within Spain and internationally. Secondly, because the Acesa Group closed the 2001 financial year with very satisfactory results, in spite of the slowdown in the economic growth cycle, increasing net consolidated profit by 5.6% to 172 million euros. And finally, because in the last year we strengthened our strategy as a management Group of infrastructures that facilitate mobility, communication and specifically, the quality of life of the society. In the year 2001 Acesa Group continued the solid, prudent and profitable growth that we hope deserves the confidence shown by own shareholders. Our willingness to grow our main activity in the highway sector and expand towards new business lines associated with infrastructures, has continued – as you can observe in this Annual Report – at a good pace. -
An Analysis of the Knowledge Economy of Manresa and Its Parc Central Project
An analysis of the knowledge economy of Manresa and its Parc Central project Results of the REDIS Implementation Lab, Manresa, 30/9 – 2/10 2009 Dr. Willem van Winden, lead expert of REDIS [email protected] More info on REDIS: http://urbact.eu/thematic-poles/growth-and-job-creation/thematic-networks/redis/presentation.html 1. Introduction The city of Manresa is a member of the REDIS-project, an EU-sponsored exchange programme of eight cities that have the ambition to use their science base as a driver for local economic development. Manresa (73,000 inhabitants) is located in central Catalonia, Spain, at some 70Km from Barcelona. In 2005, the city developed its strategic plan for the next decade. One of the key ambitions is to strengthen knowledge-based economic activity in the city, in order to modernise its industrial base and create future prosperity. Manresa is in the process of developing its ‘Parc Central’, that is to become a major focal point of the local knowledge economy. Currently, the technology park is under construction, at a ‘greenfield’ site (150,000 m2) on the Northern edge of Manresa, adjacent to an industrial zone and a park. It is an investment of Euro 60m. The park will largely serve as a business park for knowledge based firms, and will also host a technological centre and an incubator facility. Firms that do not conduct research or product development are not welcome at the park. In the next few years, the technology park will be completed, in stages. In the context of the REDIS programme, in November 2009, Manresa hosted an Implementation Lab, a method that helps to audit a project using the expertise of project partners from different countries. -
