SUMSUM MER 2021MER EVENT CALENDAR MILLENNIUM PARK Beginning in June, visitors can expect pop-up music, theatre, and dance performances throughout Millennium Park. The Auditorium Theatre will present ABT Across America, featuring American Ballet Theatre (July 8 at 7:30 p.m.) and Dance for Life (August 26 at 6:30 p.m.) presented by Chicago Dancers United. All events will require advance reservation for pavilion and lawn seating—capacity is still being determined. The summer programming lineup also includes some familiar events at Pritzker Pavilion, including: GRANT PARK MUSIC FESTIVAL Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays July 2 – August 21 at 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. MILLENNIUM PARK SUMMER MUSIC SERIES Mondays, August 2 – September 13 at 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, September 2 – 16 at 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. MILLENNIUM PARK SUMMER WORKOUTS Saturdays, July 3 – August 28 at 8:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. CHICAGO CITY MARKETS Kicking off on May 15 at Division Street, Chicago City Markets will return to streets and parks this summer, as well as more City Markets in Austin, Bronzeville, Englewood, Pullman, Roseland, and West Humboldt Park. DALEY PLAZA Thursdays beginning May 27 THE HISTORIC MAXWELL STREET MARKET Reopening June 6 with a new schedule: 1st and 3rd Sundays at 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. MILLENNIUM PARK SUMMER WORKOUTS July 3 – August 28 at 8:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. VIEW EVENT WEBSITE TASTE OF CHICAGO TO-GO Instead of a single event, Taste of Chicago will return in the form of special events throughout the city in July, August, and September. Look forward to a lineup of pop-up cooking demonstrations and the return of the “Community Eats” meals. VIEW EVENT WEBSITE RAVINIA 2021 SEASON North America’s oldest music festival stands today as its most musically diverse, presenting over 140 different events throughout the summer. These concerts run the gamut from Yo-Yo Ma to John Legend to the annual summer residency of the nation’s finest orchestra, The Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The 36-acre park is nestled in a gently wooded area that makes it an enchanting place to experience music. Guests can bring their own picnics or eat at one of the park restaurants. VIEW EVENT WEBSITE HOLLYWOOD CASINO AMPHITHEATRE Originally known as World Music Theatre and formerly First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre, HCA is one of America’s premier amphitheatres. With some of the today’s most legendary artists performing live at the venue, it amasses huge audiences and creates some of the most unforgettable live music experiences ever. VIEW EVENT WEBSITE WRIGLEY FIELD CONCERT SERIES If you’ve never seen a concert at Chicago’s historic Wrigley Field, 2021 is a great year to start. The newly renovated field offers the ultimate concert experience for music fans. If you’re planning on attending one of Wrigley Field’s summer concerts, check out the concert seating views below. In 2021, Wrigley Field will play host to concerts from Dead and Company, Green Day, Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, and more. DATES: Through July 4 VIEW EVENT WEBSITE HUMAN+NATURE AT THE MORTON ARBORETUM Built to create a sense of awe and wonder, five massive sculptures are featured with the backdrop of the Arboretum’s magnificent and mature tree collections. Each grand in size and appearance (20 – 25 feet tall), the sculptures are crafted especially for Arboretum visitors. DATES: May 28 – August 31 VIEW EVENT WEBSITE OLD TOWN ART FAIR There will be 200+ nationally acclaimed artists, an estimated 10,000 art lovers, a garden walk, live music, food court, and children’s corner. The fair is open on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., rain or shine. DATES: June 12 & June 13 VIEW EVENT WEBSITE GRAND ILLINOIS BIKE TOUR The 19th Annual Grand Illinois Bike Tour has a distinct Great Rivers & Routes flavor. This year’s ride begins and ends in Litchfield and tours the trails of Madison County. Riders choose among daily mileage options for a total ranging from 200 to 375 miles, consisting of quiet rural roads and 140-plus miles on trails (almost all asphalt-surfaced) on old railroad corridors. Participants pick between camping and hotel options and enjoy evenings filled with good food and fellowship with riders hailing from around the country. DATES: June 13 – June 18 VIEW EVENT WEBSITE GREAT GALENA BALLOON RACE Explore these magical inventions at this spectacular three-day event. Get right up close to the balloons and learn all about them. This event features more than 20 hot air balloons, three races, a night glow extravaganza, live music, an art show, car show, and activities for the whole family. DATES: June 18 – June 20 VIEW EVENT WEBSITE THE OBAMA PORTRAITS Chicago is the first stop for the Obama portraits as part of a five-city tour organized by the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. As the family’s longtime home, Chicago has a unique connection to the Obamas, as does the Art Institute. DATES: June 18 – August 15 VIEW EVENT WEBSITE PRIDE IN THE PARK Hosted in Grant Park, the second-annual music fest will be headlined by Chaka Khan, the legendary Queen of Funk; Gryffin, the self-taught prodigal producer; and Tiësto, who has been dubbed “the world’s greatest DJ.” DATES: June 26 & June 27 VIEW EVENT WEBSITE OAK BROOK POLO Founded in 1922 by legendary businessman Paul Butler, the Oak Brook Polo Club is an American Polo treasure and one of the oldest polo clubs in the United States. The size of space allows the sport to easily enforce social distancing guidelines instituted and recommended by state and federal health authorities. As a result, the Oak Brook Polo Club has transformed its venue layout into a limited-capacity, all-tailgate environment with strict social distancing and buffer zones between each tailgate party. DATES: June 27 – September 26 VIEW EVENT WEBSITE THE FRONT 9 AT THE ELMHURST ART MUSEUM In a unique collision of recreation and art, the museum has commissioned a two-part miniature golf course of playable works of art by local and national artists. The custom-built playable miniature golf course will be split into two exhibits: The Front 9 (summer) and The Back 9 (fall) and is designed to use the museum’s galleries with COVID protocols. We do this by creating opportunities for a diverse community of listeners to engage with the music and its creators, and by working with artists, organizational partners, and networks to celebrate the rich tradition of jazz and to support the development of new work and ideas.
