While some Igbos may have reason, ambient one at that, to hate Awolowo, many GOD-fearing ones and those who have widely traveled far easily can say, let bygone be bygone. From the later’s stand point, I write. But learning from history is to better posterity. So, I write. I acknowledge activists whose instigation bore great weight to the excavation of facts from achieves to put this historic feat on the table. It does not justify Britain or America or OAU for the roles they played in the war. The crux of the matter is only and only one: Awolowo’s action to Igbos AFTER THE WAR, NOT BEFORE OR DURING THE WAR. I thus speak as a man and not GOD who can even condemn Awolowo for his policies against Igbos during the war. This Book, therefore, focuses on Awolowo’s post war policies on Igbos not pre-war policies no matter how raw-acidic it told on Igbos. This is because Igbo proverb says “you cannot beautify war!! Any how you know to win, do win, that is war for you. Obafemi Awolowo was released from Calabar Prison by Ojukwu who had Meeting with him at Enugu on May 6-7, 1967 in the presence of: - Samuel Aluko (Later Professor) - Sir Francis Ibiam - Chief Jereton Mariere - Chief C.C. Mojekwu (Biafra’s Prime Minister) - J. I. G Onyia - Professor Eni Njoku - Dr. Anezi Okoro Awolowo clearly said “if the Eastern Region was pushed out of Nigeria, then the Western Region would follow suit”. Awolowo used the right word that captured the pogrom against Igbos: “pushed out”. He said, I repeat, “pushed out”. That was what exactly happened to Igbos that made Ojukwu’s Declaration of Biafra a fait accompli: Igbos became sheep for the slaughter initially in the Northern and then in the whole of Western Region. Notable Yorubas spoke out against the evil machinations meted against Igbos like: Wole Soyinka (he wasn’t a Professor by then) and Gani Fawehinmi. Both were castrated in prison by Gowon Government for condemning the massacre of Igbos by all Nigerians in the two Regions of North and West and part of Midwestern Region, that is, non-Igbo speaking Mid West. Many Yorubas fought at the Biafran side in clear condemnation of the pogrom against Igbos orchestrated by Sokoto caliphate, which was embraced by Yorubas, Edos, Ishans, Urhobos, Ishekiris and Auchis. Igbos were massacred by these Southern tribes in both the Western and Mid Western Regions. Hence, Igbos were no longer safe in Nigeria, and declaration of Biafra was the only option. And thank God Ojukwu did declare Biafra, otherwise Northern Region, Western Region, and Non-Igbo Mid Western Region would have progrommatically decimated the territory of Igbos and repopulated it. Biafra gave Igbos what to fight and live for. So, Igbos did not after all lose the war. Infact they won the rationale for the declaration Biafra in the first place: Preservation of Igbo Race. Awolowo saw that Igbos were pushed out, forced out of Nigeria. Gowon in February 2012 during Ojukwu’s burial obsequies said “Igbos were right in declaring secession”. But Gowon could not say that then for fear of Sokoto caliphate. The three war policies that were accredited to Awolowo were: (1) Change of Currency (2) Blockade of Biafra which later ceded Bakassi Pennisula to Cameroon in the August 1968 Marua Accord with Ahmadu Ahidjo of Cameroon. (3) The discrimination of Igbo next-door neighbours by sowing hate-seed against Igbos among Efiks, Ogonis, Ijaws, “Ikwerres”, Itigidis and Kalabaris. These policies combinatorially 100% delivered their essence. Biafra was made defunct on January 12, 1970. So, Obafemi Awolowo, the schemer, should not be
