Prominent local DJ Randy Ray, who was a big hit at their Wedding Party Dance last season, will spin the tunes, evoking the USO radio shows of the World War II era. Our email address is [email protected] Reinforcing the theme, Bob Hope and Marilyn Monroe impersonators will put in an appearance to “entertain the troops.” For those who need to brush up on their dance steps from the period, there will be “Swing into the Era” dance lesson beginning at 6:30 p.m. as well as a demonstration dance during the party by Enchanted Ballroom professionals Susan Scott and David Flory. The Sanibel Community Association is using this enjoyable theme to help honor and say thank you to our nation’s veterans from all conflicts past. Anyone who has any military photos or memorabilia is invited to drop them off prior to the dance to add to the decorations. Also, anyone who can still fit into their old uniform or party dress from the era should dust it off and wear it to the dance to help set the theme. Each of this year’s dance parties will once again feature and raise funds for a non-profit partner. For Remembering The USO, the event partner is the Lee Coast Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America. Snacks and beverages for the evening will be light, so eat before you arrive. Alcoholic beverages will be available by donation. This party will be held at The Community house on Friday, November 8 from 7 to 10 p.m. Thank you to our sponsors Michael Kelly, Marge and Joe Meek, and Bailey’s General Store. Special thanks to Art Cassell and Sandy Greco. If you are interested in sponsoring an event, call the SCA for additional information. Register in advance by calling The Community House at 472-2155. With one swing of the bat last Sunday night, David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox proved Bthere is nothing more exciting. Big Papi added to his lore as the greatest post-season hitter in Red Sox history when he blasted the first pitch from Detroit closer Joaquin Benoit over the right field fence at Fenway Park for a grand slam home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift his team to a 5-5 tie. As we all know by now, Boston went on to win the game 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the American League Championship Series, 1-1. The dictionary does not contain enough adjectives to adequately describe Big Papi’s post-season heroics.
