Broadway Costumes Costume Rentals How-To’s, Contract Terms & Conditions Rental Rates & Deposits: The basic rental period is 2 nights. We do not charge for any days that Broadway Costumes is closed. Additional days rent at the rate of 20% per day plus tax. Special weekly rates and “play” rates may apply. Just inquire as to your special needs. Deposits are required and are usually twice the amount required as the stated rental rate up to and including the current retail value. Minimum deposit is $20. Deposits are not refundable for any cancellations unless 1 (one) week or more in advance, then 50% refunded. The deposit is NOT part of the rental balance. The entire rental balance is due when the costume is picked up. Deposits may be made by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express) or by cash. Deposits are refunded after costume return and any applicable fees are paid. Rental Return: You must return all rented items by the date stated on the contract. Items not returned on the specified date are subject to a late fee of 20% of the basic rental rate per day late plus tax. Alterations by Broadway Costumes: Alterations and cleaning are normally included in the rental price. However, alterations may take up to two weeks at peak seasons; faster service may require an additional service charge. Alterations by Customer: NO ALTERATIONS are allowed by the customer. Any alterations done outside of Broadway Costumes will be considered as damage and will result in assessed fees. Smoking and Eating While in Costume: Be very cautious. -

Opening Day A Yachting Tradition Sunday, 29 April, 2018 Opening Day is the annual celebration of the arrival of spring and the boating season. It is the year’s busiest, most interesting day at the Club and all members and their families are warmly invited and encouraged to participate. Opening Day is a great opportunity to meet existing and new friends, and celebrate everything that is great about the Club. It is also a good opportunity to introduce potential members to the Club, so bring them along for the day. It is believed that the tradition of a Sailpast began at the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes, England nearly 200 years ago. The actual ‘review of the fleet’ is steeped in more than 600 years of Royal Navy tradition and history. It was introduced in yacht clubs as a continuation of the naval practice whereby Admirals and Royalty reviewed the fleet on special occasions. Our Club’s tradition is similar, except the salute is received by the Commodore, who will be aboard the sailing vessel Argyle anchored in Esquimalt Harbour. Club boats deliver the salute by dipping the ensign while passing the Commodore, with all crew standing facing the Commodore (headdress should be worn). The Commodore is the only one to return the salute by hand. Traditionally, all club members should participate in the Sailpast, on their own or on another member’s vessel. If you don’t have access to a boat, and would like to participate in the Sailpast, bring your family and friends to the club and we will make our best efforts to find a boat for you. -

HOLGER ERIKSSON Catalog 2012 HOLGER ERIKSSON THE ”GRAND MASTER” OF SWEDISH MINIATURE FIGURES Holger Eriksson cast his first miniature figure in 1934, an event that became the start of a unique artistic career. The figure was produced entirely by him, from sketch to modelling, mould, casting and cleaning to painting. Holger Eriksson was born in 1899, in the village of Bolhyttan, Sweden. The family moved to the town of Filipstad in 1901, were he later went to school. At the age of fifteen he was employed as an errand-boy at a drawing office and advanced to draughtsman. In 1929 he moved to Karlstad, to become a designer and drawing office manager. He had had an interest in miniature figures ever since he was a young boy. But it wasn’t playing with tin-soldiers that fascinated him, it was rather the small sized sculpturing. Already in his childhood and youth he drew horses, in motion or resting, with or without riders. The riders were mostly soldiers and they naturally had as correct a uniform as possible. An interest in uniforms, and later regimental history, was awakened. National service in the garrison town of Boden, where most of the army’s arms were represented, gave rich opportunities for detailed studies. About 1925, Holger Eriksson started to sculpt in wood. He carved horses, cowboys and indians, camel riders, knights, foot soldiers and a field gun, all in 54 mm. Later, the idea of casting figures matured and he cast the first figure with the initials HE on the base, as already mentioned, in 1934. -

His departure to the Russian war in 1788 was staged as a grandiose spectacle. The King, who was also a playwright, made the day of his departure coincide with the symbolic date of June 23. This was the date that Gustav II Adolph (ruled 1611-32) went off to the Thirty Years? War in 1628. The parallel between Gustav III and the great Swedish warrior King was further emphasized by his costume made in the style of Gustav Adolph. In this article, the author analyzes Gustav III?s departure to war as a theatrical event and explores the borders of theatrical events in the late eighteenth century. Gustav III?s ceremonial departure is placed in the framework of Nikolai Evreinov?s and Yuri Lotman?s theories of theatricality which show how the King applied theatrical means to everyday life in order to theatricalize it, i.e. to make it spectacular and symbolic. By theatricalizing life Gustav III idealized his role of king and thus performed his power. Theatricalization of political life not only adorned life but it also significantly changed reality; the theatrical playing of the King entailed real consequences ? Gustav III enacted his role of a monarch in a memorable way and achieved his political goals. The interaction between politics and theater is the main focus of the article. -

Les nombreuses broderies de feuilles de chêne et d'olivier entrelacées sur les parements de l'uniforme symbolisent l'autorité et le souci de la paix publique. Les costumes ont fait dès l'an VIII ministère de l'intérieur apportent l'objet de trois arrêtés du quelques modifications tout en restant gouvernement: 17 ventôse (8 mars), fidèles aux dispositions établies en l'an 17 floréal (7 mai) et 8 messidor (27 VIII (circulaires du 24 septembre 1830, juin). Depuis, à chaque changement du 26 janvier 1849, du 20 mars 1852 et de régime, des circulaires du du 10 avril 1873). La circulaire du 10 avril 1873 fixe ainsi l'uniforme du préfet : Grande tenue : habit bleu, broderie en argent, Petite tenue : tunique chapeau français à plumes noires, droite en drap bleu, gilet pantalon blanc ou bleu avec bandes blanc ou bleu, pantalon d'argent, épée à poignée de nacre, bleu, képi bleu à bandeau écharpe tricolore, gilet blanc.
