The Senior Center of West Seattle infuses warm friendships, healthy activities and joyful experiences into life as people age. We are a welcoming, inclusive place to laugh and learn while finding support for basic needs that foster both independence and engagement with others — a place where seniors, their families and their neighbors can celebrate life and participate meaningfully in our community. Greetings from the Executive Director

Dear Friend and Supporter of Senior Center of West Seattle, It is with deep appreciation and gratitude that I write to share news that, after over 6 exceptional years, I will be retiring from my role as the Executive Director of the Senior Center of West Seattle. I will be leaving to spend more time with family and friends and follow my lifelong dream of travelling internationally. My time at the Center has been the singular best experience in my professional life. The past 6 years spent here at our “Jewel of the Junction” have enriched me as a leader and as a human being. I am extraordinarily proud of our fulfilling and important work providing a welcoming, inclusive second home where all seniors and those who love them can feel safe, included and vital. In 2019, we served over 4100 seniors in West Seattle. As the Center approaches it’s fiftieth anniversary in West Seattle, it is more vibrant and successful than ever. The center’s financial foundation is strong and continues to thrive as we meet the needs of our participants and stakeholders. The building has been renovated twice to increase capaci- ty and programming. Rainbow bingo has been sold out for over five years, and, because of you, our annual fundraising breakfast has been up leveled to new heights of community engagement, member accomplishments and financial success. I want to thank our amazing staff, board of directors, donors, volunteers and our entire commu- nity for your continued support. Because of all that you do, the center leads the way in innovative programming, cutting edge events and seminars, and over 50 services and amenities for our old- er adults to enjoy and live more fully. None of this can happen without you, our strong, amazing West Seattle. I am committed to ensuring a smooth and successful transition over the next 2 months and am looking forward seeing you at our 12th Annual Fundraising Breakfast on Tuesday April 28th. Please be sure to register in person at the front desk, online at www.sc-ws.org, or by email at info. [email protected].

In gratitude,

Lyle Evans

4 Engage as you age! www.sc-ws.org Community

Are you looking for a way to make a difference? Give back to your community? SCWS is seeking committee volunteers There is alot of work that goes on behind the scenes to keep our Center running smoothly, addressing concerns as they arise and, of course, keeping the Center well-funded. The board is made up of community business owners and community members who believe in us. At this time we are in need of additional community members to join two very important committees:

Transportation/Parking Four month commitment. Members include SCWS Board and also community members who have knowl- edge of and can participate in helping to understand the various options for the SCWS as parking goes away in the Junction. Pursue partnerships and relationships that will provide easy, inexpensive access to the SCWS.

Senior Center Models One year commitment to research models from around the country and choose three options for the Gov- ernance Committee to take to the next level of vetting (costs, what the community wants and will support, etc.). The goal is to: have a decision on what model to move forward with by the end of 2022, make plans for 2030 as it relates to remodeling the current Senior Center, building a new one, or satellite operations.
