Introduction TD-12

Thank you for purchasing V Expressions LTD’s Power Series!

This special designed pack is for general use.

This expansion pack for the TD-12 provides 30 + general use kits. This pack has been purposely created for the live and recording drummer needing specific kits that are plug and play ready.

For all experience levels and functionality, this pack will deliver a great enhancement to the TD-12. Based on a standard set-up, this pack includes pre-programmed support of Aux 1 as tom 4 and Aux 2 as a . All the kits are uniform in level and panning.

Created for gigging, recording and general use, you'll be able to use these kits as a reference point to create your personal masterpieces.

All kits have been fashioned using the onboard sounds of the TD-12. These are not new samples or added third party material. The TD-12 is not capable of uploading new samples to its wave board. All sounds have been professionally formulated and highly tweaked for your satisfaction. You may notice a difference in the volume of the module versus the stock kits, as well as other enhancements to most of the instrumentation that make up our kits.

The Power Series expansion pack has been ear - created on the TD-12 from scratch on a highly expressive platform. All kits have been tested using a live and control room setting. You will need a quality USB to Midi Cable and a Midi transfer program to properly execute this download.

Before Loading Power Series please read this manual for important pack and module information.

Power Series performing Live Tips & Tricks TD-12

The Power Series expansion kits are programmed to define the original source media as closely as possible by the TD-12 drum module. In order to achieve modeled accuracy, some kits may not require the ambience levels of other kits in the expansion. This modeling technique was needed to reach maximum precision.

Some kits require ambience or lack of to achieve the original accuracy. If you wish to adjust settings to work with your public address system or band better, your model settings can be easily adjusted to add even more ambience. Tom and cymbal separation can also be adjusted in the panning screen to widen the depth of your kit without harming the model.

In the live playing environment, it is suggested that the kits be played to the mixing console in stereo as they are modeled and then adding/ reducing the desired effects to accommodate the current environment. Thank you once again for purchasing the Power Series Expansion Pack from V Expressions LTD. We hope you enjoy it!

Power Series Backup FILES TD-12

(1) One – Backup Power Series file is included with purchase:

File: PS.SYX

Aux 1 is Tom 4 and Aux 2 is a cymbal

The file will load into your user section overwriting kits 1-32. Expect slightly louder volumes than the stock kits.

READ ALL OF THE FOLLWING BEFORE CONTINUING!

User kits 1-32 in your TD-12 (flash memory) will be erased during a load of the Power Series midi file. The factory reset information is not disturbed and the original version of the TD-12 can be reset at any time to return to your default purchased starting point.

We highly recommend backing up your current TD-12 memory to save all personal previous changes before loading any expansion packs from V Expressions LTD.

V Drum Librarian Recommended TD-12 www.vdrumlib.com

Step 1: Make Connection From Your Computer To Your Module

Locate the MIDI connection jacks on the back panel of your module and connect your adapter cables. Data flow markings on MIDI cables seem to vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. However, the cable labeled OUT, or with arrows that show data flowing into the cable, is usually hooked up to the MIDI OUT/THRU jack on your module. Likewise, the cable labled IN, or with arrows showing data flowing out from the cable, is usually hooked up to the MIDI IN jack on your module.

WARNING: Unfortunately, the labeling convention shown here isn't always followed. So, if your module will not send or receive any data to VDrumLib, the first thing you should try is swapping the cables by connecting the IN cable to the modules OUT/THRU jack, and the OUT cable to the modules IN jack.

v

Step 2: Select MIDI Send Option

To send a SYSEX backup from VDrumLib to your Roland drum module, select the Send Sysex Data option from the MIDI drop down menu. You will be prompted with a standard Windows "Open" dialog box to choose the MIDI *.syx bulk dump to transmit to your drum module. Find and open the file PS.SYX.

Step 3: Select Your MIDI Interface Device

Before you can send the sysex data, VDrumLib needs to know which MIDI output device you have hooked up to your Roland drum module. You can select your MIDI output device from the drop down list at the top of the dialog box.

vi

NOTE: If you are using a USB to MIDI adapter, and you do not see your MIDI device in the list, press the cancel button. Then, make sure your device is plugged in and initialized before starting over with step 1, above.

Step 4: Send The Sysex Data

Now that VDrumLib knows which MIDI output device is hooked up to your Roland drum module, you can start sending the data to your drum module by pressing the Send button, which is located at the bottom right corner of the dialog box.

NOTE: The Message Delay adjustment can normally be left at the minimum value of 50 mS. However, if you experience intermittent communication errors with your module, you can increase this number to see if it helps. If you do increase the delay, the time to transfer kits to your module will also be increased. So, you should try to set the delay to the smallest number that still gives you reliable communication.

Step 5: Wait For The End Of The MIDI Transmission

VDrumLib displays a progress bar indicating that it is sending the MIDI data. The progress bar is updated each time a sysex packet is transmitted to show the percentage of completion for transmitting the whole *.syx file. Depending on the size of the *.syx file being transmitted, the entire process may be as short as a couple of seconds for small files, or as long as a several minutes for very large files. Regardless of the transmission time, the dialog box will automatically close when the transmission is done.

NOTE: If, at any time during the transmission, you wish to quit the MIDI transmission, you may do so by simply pressing the Cancel button. However, doing so will abort the process! So, DO NOT press the cancel button under normal circumstances.

vii Midi Transfer using Midi-Ox

TD-12 Midi Utility Instructions for Midi-Ox:

Midi connections:  TD-12 Midi In connects to Computer Device Midi Out  TD-12 Midi Out connects to Computer Device Midi In

General Setup:  Open Midi-Ox on computer  Click options and make sure “Midi Filter” and “Pass Sysex” are checked ON.  Click “Midi Devices” and make sure your device appears and is selected for both IN AND OUT.  Click “OK”

Saving Data from the TD-12 to Midi-Ox:  In Midi-Ox, click “VIEW”.  Click “SYSEX”. (the sysex view & scratchpad screen appears)  Click “SYSEX”.  Click “RECEIVE MANUAL DUMP”. (note: individual saved kits will load back into the patch they came from; using the copy/exchange feature is the best choice for setting kits where you want them when mixing backups)

Troubleshooting: If you get error messages it is because Midi-Ox is not recognizing your midi device. Check your connections (Midi Connections above) and repeat the “General Setup”. Check your “Midi Devices” again to ensure the correct midi device is selected. (the one the TD-12 is connected to) Receiving this error is due to the computer midi device not being recognized; not your V Expressions Expansion file or the TD-12 module. This error is a user end error due to incorrect general setup.

Saving Data other than “BULK”:  On the TD-12, push “SET UP”  Push (F1) MIDI.  Push (F5) BULK. , (a midi bulk dump screen appears and “ALL” is highlighted)  Scroll using the value dial to what midi info you wish to send to Midi-Ox. (if you want to select a single , scroll the dial until “1 DRUM KIT” appears)  Cursor down arrow to “DRUM KIT”.  Use the value dial to select the kit you wish to transfer.  Push (F5) EXECUTE. (the screen on Midi-Ox will begin to fill up with byte info data)  Once completed, go to Midi-Ox and click the “DONE” button.  Click “DISPLAY WINDOW” on the Sysex View & Scratchpad Screen.  Click “SAVE AS” to name and save the file. (remember the “.syx” extension)

Congratulations! You are now a pro now at midi transferring!

Loading Data other than “BULK”:  Complete the “General Setup” above.  Open Midi-Ox.  Power on the TD-12.  In Midi-Ox, Click “View”.  Click “SYSEX”. (the sysex view & scratchpad screen appears)  Click “FILE”.  Click “SEND SYSEX FILE” (the “OPEN” window appears allowing you to choose the PS.SYX file and open it)  Select the Sysex file and click “OPEN”. (once you click on “OPEN” you will be sending the file to the TD-12)

The TD-12 will automatically receive the transfer and reset itself once complete. You are ready to use the new file uploaded to the TD-12.

viii V Drum Librarian for TD20 and TD20 X users:

V Drum Librarian can convert this pack to be compatible with the TD20 or TD20X modules. Once opening VDL, select TD20 or TD20EXP and open the TD12 power series file(PS.SYX). A conversion screen will appear. Press Convert. A pad matching screen will appear, press Convert. Then let VDL convert the file and open fully in the left column. Select all the kits and move over to the right column. Open a previous backup from your module, and copy the Trigger Settings file to the new kits. Select the settings file and move over to the right column. This will preserve your trigger settings. Then Save the file as either a TD20BK file or a TDW2 file, whichever one corresponds to your module.

VDL will use AUX 1 for TOM 4, and AUX 2 on the TD12 for all Aux’s 1-4 on the TD20 or TD20X. Once loaded to your module, you can make changes as you see fit for your playing style and needs.

Visit www.vdrumlib.com for more details and information on the conversion. .

Power Series setup tips: TD-12

Initial setup of your mixer sliders:

 Put all your sliders to 85%. That is 3 dots from the very top of the slider housing.  Set your master volume and headphone volumes to 10 o’clock, and work from there.  It is recommended to monitor in stereo, rather than from the Left Mono output. If you must use the Left Mono output only, open your mixer pan settings and pan everything L15 per kit.

If you are having problems with your pads not responding like normal, or your rim features have been shut off, check the following:

1. Check your trigger settings and pad assignments – we supply the Power Series mid file as drum kits only. No trigger information is transferred.

2. Check all your mixer settings and cables for proper input on the pads. Adjust your mixer Settings, etc.

3. Your CY12 c/r, CY13R, or CY15R has no BELL sound: adjust your trigger bank setting
