King Ghidorah is certainly my favourite (although I do also like MechaGodzilla to be fair) probably because he Various Monsters always reminded me of Tiamat from the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon. Clay Colossus Over the years King Ghidorah has been encountered in a number of different incarnations. Revising Epic Feats King Ghidorah: The original golden scaled three headed space demon; responsible for wiping out all life on Mars and the dinosaurs on Earth. Defeated by Godzilla (who actually severed one of King Weapons (Final Fantasy) Ghidorah's heads with his atomic breath). New Feats (and Spell Mecha-King Ghidorah: Actually a cyborg rather than a mecha. Its previously severed central head System) was actually a robotic replacement capable of emitting a powerful laser blast from its mouth (160d4 damage). Mecha-King Ghidorah is also far more heavily armoured (+159 Natural Armor) and Crown Naga Death Ghidorah: Grew from the severed tail of the original King Ghidorah. Not as powerful as the Revising Salient Divine original. Possesses fiery breath weapons and bite attacks in place of the Gravitic and Lightning Abilities attacks. Combat King Ghidorah Breath Weapon (Ex): King Ghidorah’s breath weapon is a line of crackling yellow gravitic force 20 ft. wide and up to 1920 ft. long. Any corporeal target struck by this attack loses 1d6% of their maximum hit points total. Each of King Ghidorah’s three heads can combine their effects into a single devastating blast which will deal 20% damage to the targets maximum hit point total, however none of the breath weapons (nor the energy shield) can be employed again for four rounds. Energy Shield (Ex): Once per round any single breath weapon, energy blast, ray attack or spell directed against King Ghidorah can be reflected back upon its caster. While using this ability King Ghidorah cannot employ any of its breath weaponry during that round. Frightful Presence (Su): King Ghidorah can inspire terror by charging or attacking. Affected creatures must succeed on a DC 93 Will save or become shaken, remaining in that condition as long as they remain within sight of King Ghidorah. The save DC is Charisma-based. Gravitic Flight (Ex): King Ghidorahs flight is due to its control of gravity rather than its wings. It can even fly with one or both of its wings damaged or severed and can also hover. Slipstream (Ex): The wind storm effect (q.v.) can also be felt should King Ghidorah fly over an area Stomp (Ex): Targets two size categories (or more) smaller than the King Ghidorah can be stomped into the ground dealing 16d8+39 damage. Swallow Whole (Ex): King Ghidorah can try to swallow a grabbed opponent of Huge or smaller size by making a successful grapple check. Once inside, the opponent takes 4d8+14 points of crushing damage plus 4d8+7 points of acid damage per round from King Ghidorah's digestive juices. A swallowed creature can cut its way out by dealing 100 points of damage to the King Ghidorah's digestive tract (AC 25). Once the creature exits, muscular action closes the hole; another swallowed opponent must cut its own way out. King Ghidorah's gullet can hold 2 Huge, 8 Large, 32 Medium, 128 Small, or 512 Tiny or smaller creatures. Wind Storm (Ex): King Ghidorah can create Hurrican-Force winds as a standard action. • Macro Wrap-Up: a Monetary Policy Mechagodzilla
Macro Wrap-Up: A Monetary Policy Mechagodzilla August 3, 2018 Japan hasn’t played a large role in market moves this year. It’s been an afterthought in discussions about trade, with Europe, China and the U.S. getting most of the attention. Back in the 1980s and 1990s, even minor financial news stories from Japan could have major repercussions for currency, fixed income and equity markets, but now it seems Godzilla could attack Tokyo and global bond markets wouldn’t move a bp. That was until two weeks ago, when rumors of a Bank of Japan (BOJ) move began to spread. 1By Tuesday, trading desks in New York and London were left scrambling to find accurate translations of a BOJ press conference, and Japan suddenly seemed like the most relevant market in the world. Since the BOJ instituted its Yield Curve Control (YCC) policy in 2016, ten-year JGB yields have been in a very narrow range around 0 bps. The reason the BOJ moved from traditional quantitative easing to yield targeting was simply that its balance sheet had expanded so much that it seemed like it might run out of bonds to buy. 2YCC has solved that problem and kept ten-year rates pegged near zero, but it has also left volatility so low that some tactical investors have reduced their exposures to JGBs. Volumes in the market have declined.3 However, this complacency about Japan, on the part of international investors, may make global markets even more vulnerable to future moves in JGBs. Some strategists have suggested the low yields in Japan (and perhaps Germany) have dragged down global yields via the substitution effect.

From the atomic allegory of Godzilla and the beguiling charms of Mothra to the tragic mystery of Matango and the disaster and spectacle of Rodan, The Mysterians, King Kong vs. Godzilla, and many others, Honda’s films reflected postwar Japan’s real-life anxieties and incorporated fantastical special effects, a formula that appealed to audiences around the globe and created a popular culture phenomenon that spans generations. Now, in the first full account of this long overlooked director’s life and career, authors Steve Ryfle and Ed Godziszewski shed new light on Honda’s work and the experiences that shaped it—including his days as a reluctant Japanese soldier, witnessing the aftermath of Hiroshima, and his lifelong friendship with Akira Kurosawa. Ishiro Honda: A Life in Film, from Godzilla to Kurosawa features close analysis of Honda’s films (including, for the first time, his rarely seen dramas, comedies, and war films) and draws on previously untapped documents and interviews to explore how creative, economic, and industrial factors impacted his career.

  • Godzilla and the Japanese After World War II: from a Scapegoat of the Americans to a Saviour of the Japanese
Godzilla and the Japanese after World War II: From a scapegoat of the Americans to a saviour of the Japanese Yoshiko Ikeda Ritsumeikan University Abstract. This paper examines how five Godzilla films illuminate the complicated relationship between Japan and the United States over the use of nuclear weapons. The United States dropped the first atomic bombs on Japan and created the first nuclear monster film, The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953), which inspired the Godzilla series. The popularity of these Godzilla films derives from skilfully grappling with the political, social and cultural problems created by the use of nuclear weapons and science/technology, both inside Japan and in relations between Japan and the United States. This paper takes a historical perspective and shows how the Godzilla characters reflect these attitudes across time, moving from a scapegoat for the Americans to a saviour of the Japanese. Gojira (Godzilla) series An ancient monster, deformed by a series of nuclear bomb tests and expelled from his natural habitat, lands in Tokyo and starts destroying Japanese cities. Given the name Godzilla, he destroys these symbols of civilisation as if seeking revenge on humankind for creating such technology. Gojira,1 produced and released by Toho Studio, was a breakthrough hit in Japan in 1954.2 It was followed by 29 Japanese sequels and two American versions of the Japanese films, Godzilla, King of the Monsters (1956) and Godzilla 1985: The Legend is Reborn (1984). Gojira was Japan’s first export film and the series appealed to both Japanese and foreign audiences. Over the past 50 years, Godzilla has transformed in shape and character, playing various roles in the stories.

Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla: Radical Urban Structures Past and Future This, one may suspect, was one of the most persistent meanings or motivations for megastructure: that in spite of its extensibility and uncertain outline, its sheer con- centration of activities would bring an end to the situa- tion where ‘the huge, uncontrolled sprawling chaos that we now call City is choking out civilization…’ – Reyner Banham1 As humanity moves forward into a potential future of pervasive climate change, architecture will confront expanding sub-tropic conditions and extremes.
