Directors: Manny Rodriguez [Director] , Cast: Movie Description: As straight man to some of the most hilarious pint-sized partners in show business, Jeff Dunham has become one of the most successful touring comics ever and has amassed legions of loyal fans! At the American Awards, Dunham was voted Male Stand-Up Comic of the Year, an honor shared with the likes of Jerry , and Williams. Thousands of sold-out theater and comedy club performances, his own top-rated special on and countless TV guest spots - including numerous Tonight Show appearances (with both Leno and Carson) - have won him accolades and success. The reason why is very simple: he and his buddies are funny as hell. Oh, and by the way. Jeff Dunham is a ventriloquist. Screenshots. All Hands on Deck (2020) An unlikely oddball trio bond during an impromptu trip to the French countryside on a foolhardy romantic mission. Reviews. Side-Splittingly Funny. Ventriliquism is an act of deception. The audience must believe that the puppets are actually talking instead of the making voices. Unless the audience buys into it, nothing works. And Jeff Dunham is so skilled that it is near impossible to believe that this is a ventriloquist. That being said, "Jeff Dunham: Arguing with Myself" is nothing short of hysterical. The first time I watched it, I was nearly crying because I was laughing so hard. It may take up little more than an hour of time, but you're laughing heartily the whole way through. The performance opens up with Jeff doing a small roughly 5-7 minute routine. The little story that he tells is pretty funny, and sets up a running gag throughout the show. Dunham may be a ventriloquist, but he's still funny without them. First up is what is arguably his funniest doll (his most famous one, Achmed the Dead Terrorist, was created later), Walter. Walter is a cantankerous, foul-mouthed, wife hating old man who loves sarcasm and verbally abusing everyone, including certain audience members. Next up is Jeff's new agent, Sweet Daddy D, who Jeff suddenly realizes is a pimp, and considers Jeff to be his "ho." He's present in a few "backstage" scenes offering commentary, but on stage he's pretty funny. Unfortunately, after Walter and Sweet Daddy D, the level of hilarity decreases. There are still laughs to be had, but his remaining characters are just not as funny. Jeff's third character is Bubba J, a self-proclaimed redneck who married his cousin. A lot of the jokes revolve around this and his obviously low intelligence, but the gags are just too broad to be truly hilarious. Next up is Peanut, a creature from a Micronesean country that looks like some sort of bizarre minaret. He's like a hyperactive, but less intelligent Walter (including a similar voice). He's really only funny when he's paired up with Jose the Jalepeno. which is exactly what you'd think. Jeff Dunham is clearly talented. His jokes are hysterical, and the voices are so different from his own that it's hard to believe that he's creating them. especially while barely moving his mouth. What I really like is the interaction between himself and his puppets. The rapport that they have is crucial and makes a lot of the jokes funnier than they normally would be. Next to his puppets, Jeff acts meek, and often embarrassed, at the things his co- stars say. What's especially noteworthy about his puppets is that their faces are very versatile. their eyes and many of their facial features move, which adds to the hilarity. The unsung hero is Manny Rodriguez. Taping a stand up routine seems easy, but it's really not. Rodriguez is able to capture Jeff in the perfect frame: we can clearly see him and his puppets and read their emotions, but we can't see his lips move when he's voicing the puppets. He also knows the concept of comic timing, such as when he switches to the audience members reactions (and the scenes backstage). This is a raunchy, obscene and hilarious performance (the unbleeped version would definitely be rated R, although in my opinion it should squeak by with a PG-13 rating). If you want to laugh, check Jeff Dunham out! Side-splitting humor. Far and away one of the funniest I have seen in a long time. His talent as a ventriloquist is nothing short of amazing. You find yourself focusing on the assortment of characters he presents as if they were the ones talking. I must admit that Walter was my favorite. I think we all know at least one crotchety old man like Walter. Walter's comments about Police on Bicycles was HILARIOUS!! Although each of the characters were funny, Walter and Peanut were my favorites. The whole video had me holding my sides and laughing till I cried. This is a video we watch over and over and feel compelled to drag out whenever company is over. Mr Dunham is a very talented and I'm anxiously awaiting more performances on video from him. Ventriloquist Jeff Dunham’s second live-performance DVD, Spark of Insanity, is much funnier than his first, Arguing With Myself, perhaps because his new puppets allow him to cover more controversial territory beyond skits about family beefs and office humor. Though some puppets reappear, like the beloved Peanut, a purple monkey who loves wordplay, new characters emerge as the stars of this hour-long stand-up show. A tense laughter ripples through the audience, for example, when Dunham announces his wish to talk with a terrorist as he brings out Achmed the Dead Terrorist, a turban-sporting skeleton who’s refrain is “I will kill you!” Previous show star, Jose Jalapeño, a Mexican chili pepper on a stick, returns for a discussion about whether the puppet has a green card. If his racial jokes rode a line slightly too Caucasian to clarify his point of view before, Dunham has achieved real satire in Spark of Insanity, showing his audience how ridiculous it is to create stereotypes of any sort. Additionally, Dunham mocks his own culture with Walter, a grumpy old white man whose parental chiding rings true for many. Moreover, Dunham impresses with his skills, and shows off some new vocalization techniques that will stun anyone interested in this fascinating art. All Hands on Deck (2020) An unlikely oddball trio bond during an impromptu trip to the French countryside on a foolhardy romantic mission. Reviews. I barfed in my mouth a little. Uproarious! I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to stand-up comics, but I don't think I've ever laughed harder at a single comedian than Jeff Dunham. The guy is a master. Watching his shows is a non-stop ticket to comedy heaven, and the acts do not get any less funny when watched repeatedly. Jeff Dunham brings back some of his most popular puppets (Walter, Peanut, and Jose Jalepeno), and brings on two new ones (Achmed the Dead Terrorist and Melvin the Superhero Guy). Walter, my personal favorite, is funnier than ever. I was laughing so hard that I could hardly breathe. Unfortunately, Dunham brought back his weakest puppet, Peanut, who's worse than before. In "Arguing with Myself," Peanut boasted a few laughs. Here, he nearly brings the show to a dead stop. Dunham needs to take the hint and get rid of this irritating Muppet-wannabe. Have the somewhat funnier Jose the Jalepeno pair up with another puppet. Or better yet, get rid of him as well and bring back a funnier doll, like Sweet Daddy D. His two new puppets are more successful. Achmed the Dead Terrorist is Dunham's most famous puppet, and there's a reason for it: he's hysterical. The inept ex-suicide bomber is almost as funny as Walter. Dunham risked a lot by putting such a controversial character into his show, but Dunham is never insulting to anyone (except terrorists). Less successful is Melvin the Superhero Guy, but he can generate a few laughs. The big-nosed superhero isn't as funny as Walter or Achmed, but he's a lot more entertaining than Peanut. The director, Michael Shannon, isn't as good as "Spark of Insanity's" Manny Rodriguez. Shannon frames Jeff and his puppets pretty well, but his sense of comic timing needs fine-tuning. Fortunately, Jeff is funny enough to not let this ruin the jokes. If you thought "Arguing with Myself" was funny, don't miss this one!
