With the success of last year’s event, combining all disciplines into one venue, year two of the USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships at Mammoth promises to be more spectacular than ever. The event will center around Canyon Lodge and use the adjacent chairlifts and trails on the east side of the mountain making it very convenient to the town of Mammoth Lakes. This year, almost 30 years to the day, I remember Greg Herbold winning the inaugural Dual Slalom event that was invented here in 1986. Many legends were born out of our long history but this year’s National Champions will be the legends of the future. National Champions will be crowned in Cross Country, Short Track Cross Country, Dual Slalom, Downhill, and for the second time ever, Enduro. I am looking forward to this prestigious event and On behalf of the town and mountain, I am honored to welcome you to Mammoth for the 2016 USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships. Bill Cockroft Mammoth Mountain, LLC MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN _ _______ __________ _______ Welcome to Mammoth Lakes, where no adventure feels small. “Mammoth” is a fitting name for this region, as it accurately describes the size of our mountains, amount of lakes, expanse of the valleys, as well as the number of possibilities for exploration, recreation and family adventures. What really sets this place apart is its beauty, which creates a majestic backdrop, making even the smallest moments feel “Mammoth.” The town of Mammoth Lakes sits high in the Sierra Nevada mountains, centrally located in the State of California. The town is only four square miles, but is surrounded by three million acres of wilderness, including several national parks and forests. At its center is Mammoth Mountain, considered one of North America’s finest year-round recreational areas. The Eastern Sierra boasts world-class hiking, fishing, and mountain biking, in addition to its winter recreation opportunities of downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing and so much more.
