    12/19/2018 1953 New Year Honours 1953 New Year Honours The New Year Honours 1953 for the United Kingdom were announced on 30 December 1952,[1] to celebrate the year passed and mark the beginning of 1953. This was the first New Year Honours since the accession of Queen Elizabeth II. The Honours list is a list of people who have been awarded one of the various orders, decorations, and medals of the United Kingdom. Honours are split into classes ("orders") and are graded to distinguish different degrees of achievement or service, most medals are not graded. The awards are presented to the recipient in one of several investiture ceremonies at Buckingham Palace throughout the year by the Sovereign or her designated representative. The orders, medals and decorations are awarded by various honours committees which meet to discuss candidates identified by public or private bodies, by government departments or who are nominated by members of the public.[2] Depending on their roles, those people selected by committee are submitted to Ministers for their approval before being sent to the Sovereign for final The insignia of the Grand Cross of the approval. In effect, it explores how local populations could shape and be shaped by the cotton industry. By focusing on a compact area with diverse settlements, this thesis contributes to the wider understanding of what it was to live in an area dominated by a single industry. The complex legacy that the cotton industry’s decline has had is explored through a range of settlement types, from large town to small village.

PROCESS FLOW FOR DENIM MANUFACTURING The warp yarn (length-wise) used in denim fabrics is uniquely prepared for denim manufacturing compared to conventional woven fabrics. The yarn goes through numerous processing steps before it is placed on the weaving machine. Unlike the warp yarn, most filling yarn (width-wise) is put onto yarn packages and delivered directly to the weaving machine where it is inserted into the fabric without any further preparation in the same manner as conventional woven fabrics. The following flow chart reveals the necessary steps in the manufacture of denim fabrics, beginning with the production of the warp yarns used. The chart forms an outline for most of the topics that will be covered in this bulletin. Inspired by these nuances, Dotty titled her latest show “Seasons.” She produced 20 paintings over the last year for her exhibit at the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art in California during November 2011. Dotty, a plein air painter who works in pastel, watercolor, and oil says, “The seasons here have intrigued me. I love being outside and creating from what I see.” To get a sense for what the light is doing, Dotty sets up her easel on location. She paints for several hours, also photographing the scene as the light shifts so she can refer to the photos later. Drawn to celebrate the Creator of all things in her work, Dotty says, “The beauty and complexity of created forms, the interaction of light, shadow, and atmosphere, the subtleties of color—these are all evidence of the One who creates and loves us. It is a privilege to be an artist and to closely observe these gifts.” Dotty is a fifth generation Wheaton graduate who never questioned her desire to be an artist. She grew up in Wheaton, but Dotty and her husband, Jim ’65, moved to California when their three children were young.
