Developing Sport & Physical Activity in Wales The Sports Council for Wales is the national organisation responsible for developing and promoting sport and active lifestyles. It is the main adviser on sporting matters to the Welsh Assembly Government and is responsible for distributing funds from the National Lottery to sport in Wales. The Sports Council for Wales has adopted International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). (N.b.: Gymnasts in level 3, 4 & 5 can choose to compete in 1 or more apparatus, however, Welsh members not competing in all apparatus for their age group will not be eligible for the AA Welsh competition) Entry will be via the BG online entry system Late entries incur double the entry fee. The official newsletter of St. Joseph’s RC High School Taflen wybodaeth swyddogol Ysgol Gyfun Gatholig Joseff Sant InsightSpring 2014 Gwanwyn ENGAGING WITH TECHNOLOGY “The way we will be delivering education will be completely different in the next 7 to 10 years” says Professor Sir Lessek Borysiewicz, Vice Chancellor of the University of Cambridge. Today we live in a digital world and it is the digital world that has been a revolutionary force over the last 10-20 years, a force that will change the way we will deliver education. Yes, we will still have to be able to read, write and add up – these are all very important skills, but another layer has been added to learning. At St Joseph’s RC High School we have made the decision to take digital technology head on and not ban it. We feel that we should put it in the hands of our students and work with them in a collaborative way so that the brave new technological world underpins learning rather disrupts it. In helping us to engage with this new technology and ensure that it’s all about the learning and not the technology, we have begun to pilot the use of digital devices in a number of classes across key stages. And although it is early days, we are really pleased with the way iPads are being used to Serving God Through enhance learning. We will keep you updated with how we are piloting the Learning Together use of iPads to enhance learning in future editions of Insight. -

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 1.1 The Panel gathered evidence for this review from relevant literature and semi- structured interviews with partners and stakeholders. The interview participants also included Sport Wales Board members and senior management. The key issues that arose from the interviews were summarized in a note, which was considered for fairness and accuracy by Panel members and participants. The notes were triangulated with the Panel’s observations from their reading of the literature and the preliminary research undertaken for the previous Sport Wales Chair’s review. -

Communities, Equality and Local Government Committee CELG(4)-19-13 : Paper 2 Inquiry into participation levels in sport in Wales Response from : Welsh Sports Association About the Welsh Sports Association (WSA) 1. The Welsh Sports Association (WSA) is the recognised independent voice for sport, physical recreation and outdoor pursuits in Wales. Since its foundation in 1972 the WSA has been the ‘umbrella’ organisation for National Governing Bodies (NGBs) of sport in Wales, providing them with representation and support. Currently over 60 NGBs are members of the WSA with an estimated 500,000 plus individual members participating in sport and recreation under their banners. 2. As well as being the voice for the sector the WSA offers a wide range of services to its members including guidance, training, information, governance support, financial management, development support and other services. 3. This response has been put together by the WSA in consultation with its members. MEETING GOALS 4. A number of National Governing Bodies (NGBs) have challenged themselves to meet aspirational targets to help meet the goals set out by Welsh Government and Sport Wales. In the last year, significant increases have been seen in participation levels in sports such as gymnastics (25%), swimming (39%), cycling (24%), boxing (33%) and athletics (12%), as well as a 20% increase in disability sports clubs. 5. These increases are mostly the result of systematic and sustained efforts to improve the way the sport is delivered. To make significant change, NGBs have looked at elements such as whether they need to adapt their format, rules, venues and infrastructure. -

Funding community sport Conference 4th September 2019, University of Hertfordshire How to develop a sustainable business model for providers of sport and physical activity How can governing bodies, enterprises, charities and other providers of community sport and physical activity generate the income required to deliver their work In Partnership with The funding landscape for community sport and physical activity is changing... The world of sport is no different from the world of technology or commerce where the rate of change is increasing all the time. Governing bodies, social enterprises, charities must not only have the appetite for change but must also implement these changes and adaptations or they will struggle to exist. At the same time, there is an increasing focus on how sport and physical activity can help change people's lives and create sport for social good, which is probably all well and good, but While budgets are frequently threatened, these changes will probably also raise opportunities and challenges for providers when it comes to attracting funding. Opportunities in terms of the possibility of engaging with non-sport funders from health, justice/crime prevention, education and social inclusion. Challenges in terms of learning how to engage with partners and funders for whom sport is just a means to an end. We are also experiencing a number of innovative enterprises who have developed sustainable business models running mass-participation events, developing community gyms, helping communities to prosper through sport and are getting inactive people active, all delivered in financially sustainable ways But, it has to be said, that far too many providers and bodies within sport and physical activity do regard income and funding as an afterthought and therefore stagger from crisis to crisis when it comes to generating income to fund their good work. -
