  • Kew Bridge Conservation Area Is Small but Distinct
KEW BRIDGE Boundary: Map 27, note that this post-dates the UDP and UDP map Date of Designation: 1st June 2004 Date of Extension: Additional protection to the area: Listed grade l status of Pumping station; other listed buildings; partially in Thames Policy Area and Nature conservation area; partially in buffer zone of Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew: World Heritage Site. Special Architectural and/or Historic Interest The conservation area is based upon the topography and confluence of historic routes at the junction of the Thames crossing point: and their effect; also those of industrial uses of the area, and its workers, on the built environment, in particular the buildings now occupied by the Kew Bridge Steam Museum. The special architectural and historic interest of the area lies in the industrial character created by the pumping station and its associations, and the high quality of architectural style achieved for them: because of their importance and their location. The Bridge itself is important as an architectural landmark. The conservation area is partially residential in character and also displays a degree of commerce, business and industry that grew up in the area. The scale of these, including the fine station building, is small, and immediately adjacent buildings to the conservation area have a retro style. Two large commercial buildings of the middle twentieth century, nearby, which have been over clad and modified to become residential, are outside the conservation area. The pumping station is the dominating building within the area. It was designed by William Anderson, for the Grand Junction Waterworks Company, to extract river water from the Thames.

WPI routinely publishes these reports on its website without editorial or peer review. For more information about the projects program at WPI, please see http://www.wpi.edu/academics/ugradstudies/project-learning.html Abstract The London Borough of Hounslow is implementing a fifteen-year revitalization plan for Feltham. Through interviews and community engagement, our project highlighted the elements that make up the identity of the town to be incorporated in the next steps in the redesign of the town center. The team created a website that incorporates project deliverables, a comprehensive list of bibliographical sources, an Encyclopedia of important town assets, a walking tour of key elements of town identity, and a promotional video. ii Acknowledgments There were many people who made the completion of this project possible. It has been a long journey since we began work on the project in January 2019, but a few people have been there all along the way to help us.

  • TREC Section 4: Acton Town Station/Gunnersbury Park to Boston Manor Station (Optional Extension to Ealing Broadway)
TREC Section 4: Acton Town Station/Gunnersbury Park to Boston Manor Station (optional extension to Ealing Broadway). Distance: 8.4 km (5.4 miles). Public Transport: Section 4 starts at Acton Town Underground Station (District and Piccadilly lines), finishing at Boston Manor Underground Station (Piccadilly Line). There is an optional exit en route at Brentford Station or an optional 3.7 km (2.3 miles) extension from Boston Manor to Ealing Broadway Station (using part of the TREC Section 1 route). Surface and Terrain: The first half of the route is along level paths, including through parks: Gunnersbury and Carville Hall Park South; however the section along the Thames Path and the River Brent/Grand Union Canal Walk does involve some steps (an alternative route avoiding the steps is suggested); the route eventually reaches Boston Manor Park and Station. Refreshments: Acton Town Station; Gunnersbury Park Café; Brentford High Street (near Brentford Lock); Boston Manor Park Café (seasonal), Boston Manor Station and shops nearby. Covid-19 restrictions: Check availability of refreshments and toilets before your walk. Public Toilets: Acton Town Station (charge); Gunnersbury Park; Boston Manor Park Café (seasonal). The route starts from south-west Acton, one of the seven towns of the London Borough of Ealing, Acton means "oak farm" or "farm by oak trees". This final section of TREC does stray into the north east of the London Borough of Hounslow going through parts of old Brentford, however as this was historically part of the Parish of Ealing when it did extend to the River Thames we think it’s appropriate to include in TREC.

Boston Manor Conservation Management Plan June 2011 LDN Architects Boston Manor Introduction The authors gratefully acknowledge the funding support of English Heritage and the London Borough Hounslow, which has allowed the preparation of this report. Hounslow Borough Council with financial support from English Heritage has commissioned a suite of reports for Boston Manor House and Park. The reports include a Conservation Management Plan for the House, Conservation Management Plan for the Park and an Options Appraisal. These reports have been produced by a single team of consultants and each report has been informed by the other. In recognition of the varying range of interests in Boston Manor the findings have been reported in 3 separate volumes. For a full understanding of Boston Manor House and Park all 3 volumes should be read. The Options Appraisal relies on the findings and policies presented in the Conservation Management Plans. The Conservation Management Plans also consider the relationships between the House and the Park and vice versa. In preparing the Conservation Management Plans the study team has had access to previous studies and reports on Boston Manor. The most significant of these is the Richard Griffiths Architects’ Condition Survey, October 2007. This was commissioned on behalf of GlaxoSmithKline for the benefit of Hounslow Borough Council. The study team has also had access to the additional report by Richard Griffiths Architects and Alan Baxter Associates on the Boston Manor House Repair Recommendations, October 2009. These have informed the Conservation Management Plan for the House and have provided the basis for the costings included in the Options Appraisal, updated by recent inspections of the House.

Transport for London. Capital Ring Section 8 of 15. Osterley Lock to Greenford. Section start: Osterley Lock.. Nearest station Boston Manor . to start: Section finish: Greenford. Nearest station Greenford . to finish: Section distance: 5.5 miles (8.8 kilometres) Introduction This is a very green walk along the Grand Union Canal towpath, beside the River Brent and through a series of parks and open spaces. It is mostly level walking, on firm towpaths and tracks and grass or earth, but may be muddy in wet weather. There are some short slopes. The route follows the Grand Union Canal and its locks at Hanwell, by the Wharncliffe Viaduct, Brent Lodge Park and Perivale Park. There are both pubs and cafes at Boston Manor, Brent Lodge Park and Greenford and there are public toilets at Brent Lodge Park. There are public transport links on National Rail at Hanwell and South Greenford as well as buses along the way. Directions. From Boston Manor station, on the Heathrow branch of the Piccadilly line, turn left upon exiting along Boston Road for 350 metres, then left again opposite The Royal Harvester pub along a broad path. Cross Southdown Avenue and keep ahead to pass through a kissing gate, then bear left. Follow this path ahead for 200 metres (it might be muddy after wet weather), ignoring turns as it descends between trees to the Grand Union Canal where the section starts. Turn right along the towpath to Osterley Lock, and keep ahead. Cross a long footbridge, the River Brent flows off to the right. Did you know? This part of the Grand Union Canal makes use of the River Brent as much as possible, though some artificial 'cuts' have been made to provide a straighter route, as here.
