FLICKERS’ IRISH FILM FEIS KICKS OFF ON MARCH 22ND Program will be a free virtual event this year in collaboration with the Irish Ceilidhe Club of Rhode Island
(Providence, RI) Spring is almost here and the Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival is gearing up for an exciting, jam-packed March and April. From Irish, French and International films to the Academy Awards, Flickers will have something for everyone. Many of the events are tied to international collaborations and reflect the Festival’s reputation as New England’s only Academy Award-qualifier in three short film categories.
Programming kicks off on March 22nd when the Festival presents a special collaboration with the Irish Ceilidhe Club of RI, 50 America Street Cranston, RI 02920, (401) 944-3233, https://www.riirishclub.org/ Entitled “FLICKERS' IRISH FILM FEIS” the evening will feature award winning Irish short films. The event is now in its seventh year.
“The Irish Ceilidhe Club of RI has a long and proud history of supporting activities that advance the awareness of Irish culture and history within our community. We are delighted to again have an opportunity to collaborate with the Rhode Island International Film Festival and welcome members of the public to the Club to enjoy great contemporary Irish films and to participate virtually in this exciting event,” said Sheila Hogg, RIIFF Advisory Board Member and program director/creator of the Irish Film Feis.

Allone | Directed by Helen Rollins | 14 min. | Ireland, 2020. In pre-Christian Ireland, a young, recently bereaved woman with no one left in the world, travels the land in search of a remedy that can bring her child back to life, only to find a cure not for the child's mortality, but for the grief she can no longer bear.
A White Horse | Directed by Shaun O Connor | 11 min. | Ireland, 2019. 1970s Ireland. A young female patient has escaped a psychiatric hospital and rings home from a telephone box.... but her parents are waiting for the call.

Tumbling Towards Home is a coming of age story about Malcolm Adams, an Irish immigrant who moves to New York in 1989 to study acting under Alan Langdon. He works through the grief from the loss of his mother and his friend Philip Seymour Hoffman. This leads to his decision of where to put his hat down and call it home. Short documentary.
My Other Suit is Human | Directed by Andrew Paul Montague | 18 min. | Ireland, 2020. Zoe, grieving for her deceased son, has become distant from her emotionally unavailable husband, who buries himself in work. Forced to deal with her grief alone, she seeks refuge in the form of a homemade robot suit. Slowly she starts to rediscover herself and her marriage. Link: https://vimeo.com/354217938
Moth | Directed by Allyn Quigley | 14 min. | Ireland, 2019. A taxi driver returns to work after the death of his daughter, only to come across the young boy who may be responsible.
BAINNE (Milk) | Directed by Jack Reynor | 18 min. | Ireland, 2019. BAINNE is set during the last year of The Great Famine in Ireland. A farmhand working for the local landlord has hardened his heart against his countrymen to ensure his own survival. But when he encounters a ghostly female figure stealing milk from the landlord's barn his resolve is tested and he is beguiled on a journey towards hope.
Ciúnas (Silence) | Directed by Tristan Heanue | 13 min. | Ireland, 2019. A couple embark on a journey in the midst of a family crisis.
Low Tide | Directed by Ian Hunt Duffy | 14 min. | Ireland, 2018. Jack, 10 years old, is excited about heading out to sea on a fishing trip with his Dad. But things take a sudden dark turn when his Dad stops the boat and tells Jack that they have hit a monster
The Bird & The Whale | Directed by Carol Freeman | 7 min. | Ireland, 2018. The Bird and the Whale is a story about a young whale struggling to find his voice. After straying too far from his family to explore a shipwreck, he discovers it’s sole survivor, a caged songbird. Together they struggle to survive lost at sea.
The Vasectomy Doctor | Directed by Paul Webster | 11 min. | Ireland, 2019. Dr. Andrew Rynne was the first doctor to perform vasectomies in Ireland; he estimates that he has performed over 35,000. This is a distinction that did not come without controversy in the extremely Catholic Ireland of the nineteen seventies and eighties.
Day Out | Directed by Virginia Gilbert | 13 min. | Ireland, 2018. A father takes his daughters on an impromptu day out to the seaside with unsettling consequences.

Arts & Sciences, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and the Canadian Screen Awards. There are only 10 film festivals worldwide that share this distinction and RIIFF is the only festival in New England. The Festival takes place every August.
MORE ABOUT THE FESTIVAL RIIFF offers a variety of prestigious awards to some of the most talented artists in (and soon to be in) the business. The festival’s Gilbert Stuart Artistic Vision Lifetime Achievement Award has been bestowed upon Academy Award-winning actors Ernest Borgnine and Patricia Neal, Oscar- nominated actors Seymour Cassel and Cicely Tyson, acclaimed actors of stage and screen, Paul Sorvino and Theo Bikel, director Blake Edwards, special effects icon, Douglas Trumbull and production design legend, Joseph Alves.
