Welcome to the summer issue. After spring showers and wind we look ahead to some sunny weather! Please note that we have reverted back to Thursdays for meetings and B.M.W. sessions, due to poor turnout on Tuesdays. The Enfield Cycling Campaign will now have a separate monthly meeting – check website for venues. June Road ride to Shenley, Herts. Pub. C30 miles, leader Paul. Friday 27 7.30pm Enfield Civic Centre, Baker Street – Marshalling on June bikes of the Enfield Night Hike 15k Walk. NCR Supporting the Nightingale Cancer Support Centre and Barnet – Chase Farm Hospital NHS. Sunday 29 9.30am. Edmonton Leisure Centre, Fore St. N9. June Ride to Woodford Café Solo to leader John for Rainham ride. Thursday 3 8pm – Meeting. July WHSC Pavilion, Firs Lane N21. Saturday 5 12 Noon. Support the “Mini Holland” bid. July Join a 'cash mob' to spend some money in the Palmers Green shops. The local shopkeepers are opposing the Mini Holland bid believing it will adversely affect parking, and hence business, in Palmers Green. Show that cyclists are customers too. There is a 'Shopping Festival' taking place today. Meet at the junction of Compton Road and Green Lanes. Organised by the Enfield Cycling Campaign. Sunday 6 July 9am Lee Valley Showground, Station Rd., Waltham Abbey. NCR We help marshal “The Only Way is Essex” charity ride in aid of Nightingale Cancer Support Centre. A 50 mile circular ride in Herts & Essex, with road sign arrows. Pubs / cafés for lunch. Starts from 10am, aim to finish around 3-4pm. Monday 7 July Tour de France, Stage 3, via Chingford on A104. NCR Join us as we watch the world’s top racers go by. Meet at 9am Edmonton Leisure Centre to ride to Chingford to watch / lunch etc. Le Peloton due to pass about 2.50-3.05pm.

Sunday 23rd February: Cheshunt After a quick brew at Beggar’s Hollow Café, we set off northwards. Then east via Whitewebbs Lane, Lane, Waltham Cross, past Cedars Park to West Cheshunt golf café for lunch stop. Our return route was past the White Water Centre, Waltham Cross and Enfield. The rain held off, though there was a strong breeze. Leader Les, plus Maz, Sarah, Paul, John R, Chris, Bridget, Michèle. Monday 24 th February: Meeting of Enfield Cycling Campaign Meeting of the ECC and others held at Jubilee Hall. Tuesday 4th March 2014: Meeting at WHSC Five came. Thursday 6 th March: Meeting of Enfield Cycling Campaign Meeting of the ECC and held at The Wheatsheaf. Sunday 9th March: Bayford Country Herts At last a really lovely and warmer sunny day in spring. From Enfield Town Park north by Hillyfields, Whitewebbs, Burnt Farm Ride, Goff’s Oak, past the pumping station on Darnacle Hill (as on Channel 4 TV programme) to Newgate Street, and onto Bayford “Baker Arms” at 12.15. We managed to lunch outdoors! We left at 1.40 east to Wormley and Lee Valley with tea stop at the Farm Centre. Back to Enfield A10 by c. 5pm. Leader Paul, plus Cathy, John R, Dave M, Peter MO, Michèle, John C, Michael. Sunday 16 th March: Lee Valley Regional Park & Velopark “Cycling for Gold” The main ride started at White Water Centre, joining others at Stonebridge Lock. A glorious sunny day saw 11 of us help marshal 21 public riders southwards on NCN 1 to the Q.E.O.P. on the new cycle paths. At 12.15 we had a guided tour of the Velodrome, and a view from the Centre, thanks to the staff. Lunch was outside by the café. Back by the other Lee Valley paths to the White Water Centre. We hope to try out the Velodrome track sometime (fee and pre=booking will be required). Leader Chris, plus Peter, Maz, Trevor, Michèle, Paul, John R, Terry, James, Melanie, Steve. Tuesday 18 th March: BMW 139 – WHSC Three came.

Sunday 23 rd March: Mystery Ride The mystery’s answer was the “Mops & Brooms” pub. A cooler day at Beggar’s Hollow, Enfield, as we enjoyed a quick hot drink at the café before riding north through the golf course path. Then north-west by , Coopers Lane, past Queenswood School, past leafy Brookman’s Park, on cycle path by Swanland Road (by A1M), past Ridge, Crossoaks Farm to Well End “Mop & Brooms” pub Borehamwood for lunch. Still sunny on our return by Galley Lane, High Barnet eastwards through East Barnet, Southgate, Palmers Green and Enfield by around 3pm. Leaders Peter & Paul, plus Terry, John R, James, Mel, Jeff, Peter MO. Saturday 29 th March: Music Evening at WHSC For sports and social members (c. 50). E.C.C. members enjoyed an evening of pop and rock, with second half dancing lead by Pauline and John. Music from 60’s-90’s from covers band “The Rivals”. A light buffet gave us a lift during the event. Our members, J.T, P.J., P.P.M. Tuesday 1 st April: Meeting at “The Wheatsheaf” Five came. Sunday 6th April: Rainham Ride Yes – “rain” on the day, so called off. Sunday 13 th April: St.Albans – “The Goat” and Gorhambury Park From Oakwood Park café northwest by Wagon Road, Brookmans Park, Welham Green, old rail line NCN 61 into St.Albans, a very good surface. After a few checks, we found “The Goat” pub at 12.50, with lunch outside. We then rode past the cathedral west to see Gorhambury Park and old ruin. Exiting the estate, back to St.Albans and the same way back, with tea and beer stop at Bookman’s Park. Last split at , with Paul home at 6.40pm. Leader Peter MO, plus John R, John, Ron, Peter MU, Jackie, Paul. Tuesday 15 th April: BMW 140 – WHSC Nine came. Sunday 27 th April: East London Tour Riding from Edmonton Leisure Centre, we paused to help Trevor put air in his rear tyre, then southbound past Tottenham Hale, Markfield Café, Springfield Café and the “Prince of Wales” pub to . Then our leader Peter had a fall on the path. After some minutes, we decided to go to Homerton Hospital so he could be checked over. About 1pm we cut short our ride, with a lunch stop at Greenway Café, then a meander across QEO Park back to Springfield. On Monday we learned Page 4 Peter was feeling better at home. Sunday 4th May: Broxbourne & Lee Valley Regional Park A delayed start due to starting place error, a quartet rode from Enfield via Whitewebbs Lane to E.L.V., then north to Fishers Green, Clayton Hill to “The Crown” Broxbourne at 12.40pm. Our return ride was due south, calling at Narrow Boat café at 3pm. Overhead there was an aerobatic display by a Spitfire plane (poss. replica?). Back at c. 4.30-5pm. Leader Paul, plus Peter MO, Jeff, Peter MU. Tuesday 6 th May: Meeting at WHSC Ten came. Thursday 8 th May: Enfield Cycling Campaign AGM at “The Wheatsheaf” 12 came. Committee 2014-15 – Coordinator Adrian Lauchlan, Sec. Roger Kingsnorth, Treasurer Trisha Smith, and Paul Lafosse, Mark Smith, Les Bailey. Sunday 11 th May: Lee Valley Regional Park Ride A showery day with some sunny spells, as a small group left Cheshunt Pindar car park towards Lee Valley and Roydon to lunch at Stanstead Abbotts, later returning to Cheshunt. Leader Chris, plus Peter MO, Peter MU, & three others. Saturday 17 th May: ECC Ride supporting “Space for Cycling” The Enfield Cycling Campaign Group rode from Enfield Civic Centre into London to support this rally organised by LCC. Local TV news featured it at 6pm. Thanks to Adrian, Roger, Trisha, Richard, Will, Nick, Bridget and others.

Ride Advice Please remember to listen to ride leaders' Please be punctual to help us start rides instructions about the route and about the safety promptly. Crossing the Thames southbound on the Woolwich ferry (free), then northbound on the cable car (£3.30 Oyster card, £4.40 cash). If there is fog or a high wind then we may have to reconsider on the day, as the river crossings may not be running. Mainly off road on paved paths, 32 miles.
