John West n their presentation to the Society’s AGM in June (see article k c o Keeping Enfield Green on page 2), Carol Fisk and Alice Roberts R k c highlighted the current dilemma facing the Enfield community. a l B I / How do we protect the Green Belt and other open spaces while s t n creating sites for new homes? The Society’s Architecture and e m p Planning Group is currently looking at a number of developments o l e that are in the pipeline. These include the sale of TfL car parks at v e D Arnos Grove and Cockfosters; Colosseum Retail Park on the A10 t a e (currently B&Q and Dunelm); Ross House on Windmill Hill and N Southgate Office Village in Chase Road. All these developments are near transport hubs. In the Society’s submission on the Enfield Local Plan we agreed that creating residential developments near train and tube stations was sensible as it can support the strategy to reduce car use.     LONDON STROLLERS WALKS PROGRAMME: JULY TO SEPTEMBER 2021 NOTES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING COVID-19: Following discussions with Ramblers’ Central Office, it has been confirmed that as organized ‘outdoor physical activity events’, Ramblers’ group walks are exempt from other restrictions on social gatherings. This means that group walks in London can continue to go ahead. Each walk is required to meet certain requirements, including maintenance of a register for Test and Trace purposes, and completion of risk assessments. There is no longer a formal upper limit on numbers for walks; however, since Walk Leaders are still expected to enforce social distancing, and given the difficulties of doing this with large numbers, we are continuing to use a compulsory booking system to limit numbers for the time being. Ramblers’ Central Office has published guidance for those wishing to join group walks. Please be sure to read this carefully before going on a walk. It is available on the main Ramblers’ website at www.ramblers.org.uk. Samples were obtained from the main River Thames, tributaries, standing waters and the London Docks. The samples were examined for Total Coliforms and Escherichia coli to give a measure of faecal contamination. The results were compared with the standards given in E.C. Directive 76/I6O/EEC (Concerning the quality of bathing water). In general, coliform levels in river waters were higher than those in standing waters. At present, there are three EC Designated bathing areas in the River Thames catchment, none of which are situated on freshwaters. Compliance data calculated in this report is intended for comparison with the EC Directive only and is not statutory. Most sites sampled complied at least intermittently with the E.C. Imperative levels for both Total Coliforms and E.coli.

    1 Suburban Taxi Drivers’ Roadshow July 2016 – February 2017 2 Meeting the Team TPH General Manager Helen Chapman Head of Stakeholder Compliance Delivery Head of Policy Strategy and Relations Manager Infrastructure Manager Tom Moody Silka Kennedy-Todd Edgerton Rodgers Darren Crowson 3 Taxi and Private Hire Action Plan Enhancing Public Safety: We are bringing in a number of new measures to enhance public safety, including: • Quadrupling the number of on-street compliance officers on the streets of London • Requiring private hire drivers to pass an advanced driving test before they can be licensed or relicensed • Progressing measures to improve safety standards by implementing an enhanced topographical test for private hire drivers before they can be licensed or relicensed • Reviewing operator compliance costs to ensure licence fee structure for private hire operators reflects the cost of compliance activity • Looking into the feasibility of introducing a minimum three-year enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check for drivers, to guarantee a full and comprehensive period of criminal history is available. 4 Taxi and Private Hire Action Plan New initiatives for the taxi trade: • Providing taxis access to an additional 20 TfL bus lanes and writing to boroughs across London to ask them to consider access for an additional 40 bus lanes • Adding taxi information to our online journey planner • Card and contactless payment options were made mandatory on 31 October to make it even easier for customers to pay, while giving drivers the time they need to prepare • Delivering the Ranks Action Plan, including increasing the number of taxi ranks in London by 20 per cent by 2020 (from 500 to 600) • Giving taxi drivers better access to our facilities, such as toilets within our estate • Reviewing the annual taxi fares process to ensure drivers and customers get the best deals.
