WHO WILL SERVE? We are putting out a call to all of our young adults, between the ages of 10-17 to consider serving the Lord by becoming an altar server. There is a need for altar servers to assist with the Mass, and also to help at other events, such as during Lent, which is fast approaching. If God has placed the desire in your heart to help serve the Church at St. Francis in this way, please contact Glenn Harahan, either by calling him at (352) 650- 3117, or by e-mail, at [email protected]

“The closer you are to the altar the more you will remember to speak with Jesus in daily prayer; the more you will be nourished by the word and the body of the Lord, the better able you will be to go out to others, bringing them the gift that you have received, giving in turn with enthusiasm the joy you have received.” Francis– Speaking to Altar Servers

ST. POLYCARP – FATHER OF THE CHURCH______Imagine being able to sit at the feet of the apostles and hear their stories of life with Jesus from their own lips. That was what Polycarp was able to do as a of Saint . With the apostles gone, heresies sprang up, pretending to be true teaching. Persecution was strong, and controversies arose over how to celebrate liturgy that Jesus never laid down rules for. Polycarp fought against the heresies that sprang up. He also faced persecution the way Christ did. When facing death, he was asked to swear by Caesar to save himself, Polycarp answered, "If you imagine that I will swear by Caesar, you do not know who I am. Let me tell you plainly, I am a Christian." When he was reminded that he would be thrown to the wild animals unless he changed his mind. Polycarp answered, "Change of mind from better to worse is not a change allowed to us." ST POLYCARP…….PRAY FOR US!!!! KNIGHTS NOTES

Jesus is saying the same thing in the Gospel. The rich Jesús está diciendo lo mismo en el evangelio. Los ricos y and poor are, for Him, more than members of literal los pobres son, para Él, más que miembros de clases economic classes. Their material symbolizes their económicas literales. OUR PASTORAL ASSISTANT RETIRING

Mary Smith, Pastoral Assistant for our last four pastors, is stepping away from parish ministry, effective February 15th. Mary plans to spend more time with her family and to enjoy retirement with her husband Stephen. A recent health scare made the decision to retire easier to make. We wish Mary many years of active retirement and thank her for her love for this parish. That, we are sure, will continue!

Did St. Peter really sit in this chair The Chair of St. Peter the Apostle – February 22nd

In the early 20th century, the stated:

We conclude, therefore, that there is no reason for doubting the genuineness of the preserved at the Vatican, and known as the Cathedra Petri.

However, since that time the fields of history and archaeology have advanced considerably, and, when Pope Benedict addressed the subject in 2006 and 2012, he spoke in a more reserved way, saying:

Dear brothers and sisters, in the apse of St Peter's Basilica, as you know, is the monument to the Chair of the Apostle, a mature work of Bernini. It is in the form of a great bronze throne supported by the statues of four Doctors of the Church: two from the West, St Augustine and St , and two from the East: St and St Athanasius [General Audience, Feb. 22, 2006].

The Chair of St Peter, represented in the apse of the Vatican Basilica is a monumental sculpture by Bernini. It is a symbol of the special mission of Peter and his Successors to tend Christ’s flock, keeping it united in faith and in charity [, Feb. 19, 2012].

He thus placed less emphasis on the archaeological authenticity of the chair than on its spiritual significance. The cathedra is lofted on splayed scrolling bars that appear to be effortlessly supported by four over-lifesize bronze Doctors of the Church, and appears to hover over the altar in the basilica's apse, lit by a central tinted window through which light streams, illuminating the gilded glory of sunrays and sculpted clouds that surrounds the window.

Serving over 1,000,000 Catholics, the mission of the Archdiocese of Atlanta is to proclaim the Gospel of the Lord, and grow all of North Georgia in faith, hope, love, and service to others. Together, we are God’s hands and feet, sharing God’s compassion and mercy. This year the theme of the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal is “Go, therefore, and make disciples.”

While much of the Church’s ministry takes place in our parishes, we also come together as an archdiocesan Church to carry out critical services and ministries that have impact beyond any one parish. Your support for the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal helps bring the spiritual and corporal works of mercy to life. Through your generous gifts we can continue the work we were called to do as Christians: educate our seminarians, support our retired priests, provide catechesis to our children and protect the rights of the unborn.

Your gift to the 2019 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal helps makes it possible by supporting the ministerial, outreach, education, formation and discipleship work of the Archdiocese of Atlanta. Please give prayerful consideration to your level of support to help fund the essential ministries and services supported by the Appeal. Next weekend, we will hear a message about the Appeal and everyone who has not yet make a gift to the Appeal will have the opportunity during our in-pew process.

To learn more about the appeal, and to donate online, visit appeal.archatl.com. A video of Archbishop Gregory’s Appeal message is also available online.
