Having started performing while in grade school, Catherine has been in multitudes of shows. She took a ten year break, going to graduate school and embarking on her career. She is very proud of her family, her dad, a retired minister, and her mom, a retired music teacher and choir director. Her mom is also a violinist, and her step-dad, a trumpet player, still playing in bands and orchestras. Catherine's husband, Joel LeClair, whiles away his time when she is at rehearsal and performing, by training their Norwegian Elkhound and fixing up their house, "which has great potential". Catherine has worked locally with Sunnyvale Community Players, Foothill College and Palo Alto Players. Catherine loves working again with the many friends she made in other shows and working with the new folks, too. In the real world, Catherine manages Market Research and Strategic Planning for Inmac in Santa Clara.

ROBERT GREEN - Fred/Petruchio A newcomer to the world of musical theater, Robert is making his debut in "Kiss Me, Kate". Hailing from Santa Barbara, Bob has made his home in the bay area, where he earned his BA in music at San Jose State. He also has a teaching crudential and taught English and Special Education classes before turning his hobby of collecting comic books into a business. Bob can be found at local comic book trade shows and conventions and plans to open his own shop next spring. A romantic at heart, Bob married wife Andrea on Valentine's Day a few years ago. A chorus member of the San Francisco Symphony for three years, he has also played the jailer in San Jose Opera's Tosca. In his spare time, Bob works with a bible study group helping with a family homeless shelter. We would like to thank Bob's voice teacher, Catherine Edgerton, for suggesting that he audition for this show.

LESLIE LANE - Lois Lane/Bianca Although the name is almost the same, Leslie assures us that Lois Lane is no relation. A native of Central California, with a BA in Theatre from Long Beach State University, lively Leslie has been in Silicon Valley for five years now. She started her on- stage career in the "hot theater town" of Bakersfield over twenty shows ago. Leslie's favorite roles were Luce in "Boys From Syracuse", Martha in "Company", Louisa in "The Fantasticks", Nicky in "" and a memorable Adelaide in "Guys And Dolls", these last two for WVLO. We sincerely hope Leslie adds Lois/Bianca to her list of favorites. Always a pleasure to work with, Leslie has this to say about working with us: "First I was a natural brunette, then a dizzy blond ...now a randy redhead. What next, bald?" We hope not. Let's see if we can find her a role as a raven haired beauty ...

VICTORIA GRAHAM - Hattie We welcome this perky young lady to her first production with WVLO. Although Victoria has been performing for only five years, she is wasting no time in sharing her versatility and talents with local audiences. "Kiss Me, Kate" is Victoria's fourteenth show. Other productions include "Once Upon A Mattress", "Christmas Carol", "", "Pirates of Penzance", "Anything Goes", and "Broadway" for West Valley College. "Jacques Brei Is Alive And Well And Living In Paris" and "Life Is A Dream" for City Lights, "Sweeney Todd" and "The Decline And Fall Of The Entire World Through The Eyes Of Cole Porter" for Foothill College, and "Sweeney Todd" for San Jose Civic Light Opera, where she was nominated for the esteemed Ginny award. Victoria studied music at CSU, Fresno, and is continuing her studies with drama at Foothill College and voice with one of our favorites, Joan Stubbe. DAVID LAPHAM - Paul A newcomer to the West Valley Light Opera stage, we welcome David to this production. David was born in Portland, Oregon. He has been in Northern California for 22 years. When not performing, David manages a retreat facility in Pescadero. He started in theater at Foothill College as recently as 1988, taking music and drama classes there. In this short period of time, he performed with Theatreworks' Summer Festival in Palo Alto. David would like to play Paul in "Carnival" and Jesse in "Jesse and the Bandit Queen". When asked what's next, David replied, ''I'm finally taking a dance class, so maybe there's hope." We hope he won't forget us when his flying feet become famous.

~, BOB SEDGWICK - Bill Calhoun/Lucentio A native of Washington, D.C., Bob has lived in the Bay Area for the past twelve years. In 1979, after seeing several performances at this theatre, he thought he would give show business a try and garnered a part in our production of •• "Oklahoma". Since then, Bob played Hortensio in our 1981 production of "Kiss Me, Kate", and two of his favorite roles, Motel, in "Fiddler On The Roof", in 1984, for Saratoga Drama Group, and Matt in "The Fantasticks" for the North Valley Players, as well as other roles in "Hello Dolly" and "" for Saratoga Drama Group, and "Music Man" for CAST. Bob attended Purdue University, and after teaching business law for five years at De Anza College, he began his law practice, specializing in family law. Aside from performing in local musical productions, Bob teaches ballroom dancing. He said that he "enjoys performing whether it's in court, or on stage".

RICK FRANK - 2nd Gangster Once again, our stage is graced with the presence of our all-around performer, Rick Frank. Born in Brooklyn, New York, (and, if you don't believe it, just listen to him ...) Rick has been in this area for over 30 years. Even though he works long hours for Lockheed, where he is the manager of Government Industry Data Exchange Program, he still has found time to perform and direct 31 shows. His favorite roles include playing Dracula, in the play "Dracula", Emile de Becque in "South Pacific", Stash in "Stalag 17" and Gustav Komer in "The Deadly Game". One of ourfavorite roles of Rick was his portrayal of Nathan Detroit in last season's production of "Guys And Dolls". He was the only actor in the cast who didn't have to assume a New York accent. Rick also is an avid video-taper, who is more than willing to talk about it at the drop of a rewind button. Thank you, Rick, for coming back to us.

R. KEITH ALLAUN - First Gangster Although Keith was born in Santa Barbara, he grew up in Panama, R.P., and has been in this neck of the woods for the last ten years. At the age of five, Keith had his show business start with a guest spot on the "Skipper" Andy show on the Armed Forces television network. Between then and now, Keith has gotten a Bachelor of Science degree at Stanford, Pre Med Bid and had various leads and supporting roles with bay area theater companies, notably a lead in the Foothill College production of "As Is" just a short while ago. Keith indicated that his favorite role was that of a roller skating waiter in "Hello Dolly" for WVLO a few seasons ago, but we have our doubts about that. So far, Keith has lived up to his claim of. being the easiest actor to work with in the history of this group. Keith currently pays his rent as a human resource contract consultant to high tech firms in the valley. Sorry, Keith, no roller skating in this show ... JACK FLEMING - Baptista We welcome Jack Fleming back to our stage. He has appeared most recently as the General in West Valley Light Opera's productions of "The Desert Song", and as Whitney in "Anything Goes". One of the most versatile character actors around, Jack is a member of SAG, AFTRA, and Actors Equity. He has appeared on the Screen in "The Ten Commandments", and ''The Prodigal Son". On TV, he has been in "Dragnet", "Studio One", and others. He only recently began performing in community theater. In local musicals, he played Mayor Shinn in "The Music Man", and asupporting role in "The Wizard of Oz". Not a stranger to off-stage work, either, Jack performs regularly as an insurance agent for CSAA. In his spare time, he is developing radio theater scripts. We are very fortunate to use this man's talents on our stage.

ROGER SPEICHER - Director What more can be said about Community Theater's consumate "Theater-person"? This man has designed sets, designed lights, and designed costumes. He has directed musicals. He has performed on stage. He was recently co-director of the widely acclaimed production of "As Is" for Foothill College. He also portrayed the roles of Nathan Detroit in "Guys And Dolls", Lord Brockhurst in "The Boy Friend", and Reverend Chrisparkle in "The Mystery of Edwin Drood". Roger designed lights for West Valley Light Opera's productions of "South Pacific" and the musical revue, "Some Enchanted Evening". he has directed "", and "Guys And Dolls" for WVLO. In his spare time, Roger designs kitchens for Pacific Kitchens, in Los Gatos. Along with being multi-talented, Roger Speicher is a joy and a pleasure to work with. We welcome him back with open arms.

JILL EBENHAHN - Choreographer Once again, we are very pleased to have Jill as or choreographer. Born and raised in England, she studied at the Royal Academy of Dance in London. She became a professional dancer, performing in films and on television for twelve years. Jill comes from a theatrical family, and is very proud of her daughter, Meg, who was our choreographer for "42nd Street", with Jill assisting. The tables were turned in "Guys And Dolls", when Jill has performed in local productions of "Nutcracker" and "Sleeping Beauty", for San Jose Dance Theatre. Jill will "hang up her dancing shoes" after this production. She and her airline pilot husband, Bob, will be looking for retirement property. She will definitely be missed. Good luck, Mum!

PHIL GARAY - Music/Choral Director There will be two performances each night of this production. One will be on stage, the other, in the orchestra pit. Phil Garay puts on a show of his own every time he picks up a baton. He is one of the most ebullient choral and music directors that we have had the pleasure to work with. Phil has a varied and versatile background. At age 6, he made his first public appearance. At age 9, he signed his first professional contract. Phil has worked with the San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego Opera Companies. A respected music clinician and adjudicator, Phil has taught vocal and instrumental music for over 12 major musicals. For West Valley Light Opera, Phil Garay directed the orchestras for "George M!", and "Hello Doily". We welcome back the very talented and liable Philip Garay. This exuberant, touching, and funny production was given New York Drama Critics Award for Best Musical. Zero Mostel starred on Broadway as the first Tevye and was later succeeded by Herschel Bernardi with the film role portrayed by Topel. Songs include: "Tradition", "If I Were A Rich Man", "Sunrise, Sunset", "Matchmaker", "Do You Love Me?", and "Anatevka". Performances: March/April 1990. "The Music Man"- This Meredith Willson musical is filled with an irresistible charm of small town life in Iowa in 1912. Robert Preston starred in the Broadway production in 1957 and repeated his role in the 1962 film version. He was "the music man" and literally stole America's heart as the confidence man who comes to Iowa to trick the townspeople into buying musical instruments and uniforms; but gets caught by his love for the town librarian. The great score includes: "76 Trombones", "Goodnight, My Someone", "Lida Rose", "Till There Was You", "Trouble", "Shopoopee", and "Wells Fargo Wagon". Performances: June/July 1990. GRATEFUL ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Community Theater has many talented people. What Community Theater also has, and really needs, are friends. Friends who will help at almost a moment's notice, without question. Some of those are: KEN GETZ, BOB MILLS, CATHIE HOWARD, LINDY BARNES, LES DALE, ELIZABETH DALE, WANDA SAXTON. And there are others. The unsung heroes of theater. We salute all of you, and we thank you very, very much. JOE RAGEY, NICK CLASON, JOAQUIN MILLER JR. DIRECTOR'S CALL: "Kiss Me, Kate" is one of the outstanding successes of the American theatre. It won the Tony award for Best Musical of 1948, played over 1,000 performances on Broadway, toured nationally for three years, and was a box office smash as a movie in 1953. Yet, very little was expected of it at the start. It was derived from Shakespeare, not the ideal material for a popular musical success. Not one of the principals had great box office appeal. Worst of all, Cole Porter had not enjoyed a success on stage or screen for a number of years; he had not created a durable hit song in over a decade. But, a true theatre miracle occurred. "Kiss Me, Kate" turned out to be an integrated masterpiece with the best score Porter ever wrote. And, it also boasted one of the best texts ever written for the Broadway stage. I invite you to sit back and enjoy this classic and bawdy battle of the sexes. Remembering that Shakespeare and Porter have seen to it that both sides are equally matched: An important point to us in this day of carefully studied sexual equality. Roger Spiecher
