TREASURER’s REPORT

I present the Treasurer’s Report for the year 2017-18. SPASTN continued its activities to fulfill its noble objectives through the year under review .

As stated in the previous years’ reports, the Government of India in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empow erment has been supporting and funding our Society to the extent of 90% of its expenditure. As a matter of policy, the Government of India has been gradually reducing the grant support w hich covers around 15% of our total expenditure. Also, there w ere delays and we had to find finances to meet those exigencies w hich have brought enormous pressure on SPASTN to augment resources to meet the grow ing expenditure. The generous support received from Philanthropists during the year largely mitigated the hardship and SPASTN w as able to sail through. Considering these circumstances, it is inevitable that SPASTN w ill have to explore alternative avenues for funding its activities in future

Therapeutic Enrichment Activity Hall - Research & Development [TEAC H (R&D)] is a development of an auditorium. The project has been supported by many donors. Among them we have received support from Madras Round Table [MRT] No.1 Charitable Trust. The MRT 1 has signed an MOU and has assured a minimum support of 1 Crore and they w ill increase the support by 20-30 lacs on best effort basis. We also would like to thank Timken Foundation, USA, Chennai Willingdon Corporate Foundation, Chennai for their support for the Project TEACH R&D.

During the year 2017-18, the follow ing institutions have donated various sums of money.

In conclusion, I thank and acknow ledge the committed services to SPASTN from the President, Committee Members, the Director and the Staff of SPASTN.

DIRECTOR’S REPORT

My commitment to ensure SPASTN provides person-centric services remains. Our dream remains that through our work and partnerships with the community, persons with disabilities can lead engaged, fulfilling lives in our society. We are fueled by the conviction that each person who comes into contact with SPASTN deserves our best

I am extremely proud to share w ith the members present that SPASTN has been accredited for meeting the highest norms “Most Desirable” prescribed for Governance of Voluntary Organization. Credibility Alliance a consortium of Voluntary Organisation committed to enhancing Accountability and Transparency in the NGO sector through good governance. This accreditation w ill help SPASTN build more TRUST among all stakeholders.

CSR partners w ho have partnered w ith SPASTN all these years namely Mind Tree Foundation, Tech Mahindra Foundation, Timken Foundation, YVR Germany, SAVE-UK, CISCO, and Charities Aid Foundation are all a testimony to the good quality of w ork w e do w ith our stakeholders and for follow ing accountable practices. Thank you for w alking w ith us in this journey. We look forward to taking the next lap together, to make a difference in the lives of those w e serve.

SPASTN embarked on an ambitious and challenging task of building a multi-purpose auditorium called the THERA PEUTIC ENRICHMENT ACTIVITY HALL (TEACH (R & D). The project has taken nearly 4 years to complete due to various reasons such as Chennai rains, fund flow s etc. On completion this w ill become a hub to promote art, culture, yoga, dance, drama etc. This auditorium replaces the old one that had to be replaced as it w as not architecturally safe.

Here I must mention the timely support that MRT1 has extended to SPASTN by agreeing to support the TEACH (R&D) Auditorium to an extent of more than 1 crore. We thank MRT1 for the support as they have earlier supported us for the Workshop Building. TEACH (R&D). Mrs.Rinku Mecheri of Chennai Volunteers w as instrumental in connecting SPASTN to MRT1 who were looking at projects to support.

The solutions that have w orked for so many times for so long w ill not be the solutions of tomorrow . The support required by beneficiaries today will be obsolete and ineffective in the future. NGO’s like SPASTN should be in no doubt that only by changing w e can remain relevant and sustainable. Key challenges are student enrolment, retention of competent staff and funds for programs. But as long as SPASTN continues to w ork w ith commitment, direction and integrity, I have observed funds have a w ay of finding us and connecting w ith good partners. As long as committed socially responsible individuals or corporate/s are there we “dare to dream” and w ork for it.

My teachers, therapists, support staff, school heads, and our administration team have been my fulcrum of support and no w ords can convey my immense gratitude to them.

Thank you Board of Trustees for guiding me and us.

Mrs.L.V.Jayashree Director
