MS HELEN CHOO CHIEH CHEN, Principal Every member of our St Nicholas family is blessed by God 一 every day and in every way. It is great to belong to such a coring, challenging, and successful family.

MS USHA JEYARAJAH, Head of Dept The true essence of education is having an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, discovery, and experience. St Nicholas first quenches, and then creates a greater thirst.

MS TAN SHU-WEI, Alumna & Head of Dept When I was a student here, the commitment and dedication of my teachers left a deep impression on me. Now as a teacher here, the commitment and dedication of my students leave a deep impression on me. My conclusion: at St Nicholas, students and teachers inspire each other with their passion. MRS HOO BOON LENG, Subject Head St Nicholas is my second home. Being among caring and helpful colleagues, I feel warmth and cosiness. With students eager to be taught, I find meaning in being a teacher.

MRS KOH MING HWEE, Alumna & Teacher Life in St Nicholas is truly vibrant and exciting. The challenge is to embrace change as a constant.

MRS CHUA LERN HUN, Administration Manager St Nicholas has changed my perception of what an educational institution should be. Here I find not only a haven for learning and achievement, but also an environment that has nurtured my confidence. I take pride in my career with St Nicholas. Credit must go to the inspiring teachers and students.

YONG HUI, Head Monitor 2003 The steadfastness and morality imbued in us account for the very distinct St Nicholas spirit. Having spent ten years in this school, I can candidly proclaim that the sisterly bonds ANGELYN CHENG, Class of 2004 forged among us, the urn of creativity blasting St Nicholas has been and always will be within us, the multitasking ability and leadership a second home to me. The inexplicable positions held by us, and the zesty St Nicholas warmth I feel when I am there is something aura all around us are one-of-a-kind. Life here I know can never be replicated elsewhere. has definitely been an unbeatable experience. It has been a blessing to have spent four years in a place that I know will never close its doors to me.

GLORIA LEE, Class of 2002 Our teachers counselled us when we were down, stood by us when we were mistreated, rallied behind us in our good decisions, and were there to help us through the consequences of the bad ones. They taught lessons, life's lessons. When we were overconfident, they warned: There is nothing so headstrong as youth and so blind as inexperience.' And when the darkened hours of despair overcame us, they told us: 'No-one can choose your mountain or tell you where to climb. It's yours to challenge at your own pace and time.' And we did. SIM LI TING, Class of 2005 校园的生活五彩缤纷,充满了刺激! 每一天都是新的体验。

ONG U TING, Class of 2005 Our teachers here are and have always been FELICIA NGIAM , Class of 2003 warm and friendly, helpful and caring. Being a leader in St Nicholas has been o life-changing experience that has helped me grow and mature immensely. My leadership qualities have been honed by the numerous opportunities that the CHEN XINYI, Class of 2004 school has given me. These opportunities 无论是那永远人声鼎沸的食堂, have benefited me in ways beyond my 还是安静却又跳动着思绪的课室, expectations. 圣尼各拉女校 CHIJ ST NICHOLAS GIRLS' SCHOOL OUR SCHOOL CREST

The CHIJ school crest is worn by students of Infant Jesus schools all over the world. In the centre of the crest lies a red shield with a silver band edged in gold. On the right is the Gospel with a silver rosary, on the left a golden distaff and spindle. The shield, surmounted by a gold cross, is encircled by a garland of marguerites. Emblazoned on the crest is our motto: 'Simple in Virtue, Steadfast in Duty'.

To be SIMPLE IN VIRTUE is to go to God in full confidence and love. It means being open and honest with others, so that we can live in a spirit of togetherness. This simplicity calls for an acknowledgment of The is the symbol of our salvation and the- cross our own faults and an effort to overcome selfishness. suffering and death of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Gospel represents the teaching of Christ, which guides our life. The garland of marguerites is symbolic of purity The rosary symbolizes prayer: communication with God. and simplicity—charmin gtraits of girlhood. The red shield conveys the message of love, God's love embracing the world. The golden distaff andspindle are symbols of womanly labour- and remind us of the satisfaction and fulfilment to be found in a task well-accomplished. TO be STEADFAST IN DUTY means to have an awareness of our duty to be of service to others. Only when we put self and petty interests aside can this steadfastness in duty be fully achieved.

The school crest is therefore a badge of honour, history, and distinction, inspiring every Infant Jesus school student to live guided by noble ideals and to uphold a centuries-old tradition of heroic virtue, Christian fidelity, and the best elements of global citizenship.

And grace my fears relieved; For He is the Son of God How precious did that grace appear In my heart He is near. The hour I first believed.

(i) , who are baptised, (iii) Through many dangers, toils and snares Have you ever realised? I have already come, This great mystery, God dwells in you Tis grace has brought me safe thus far, and me. And grace will lead me home. (Repeat Refrain) (iv) When we've been there ten thousand (ii) This joy, God gave to us, years, Share it then with others too. Bright shining as the sun. cheers THE ST. NICHOLAS FAMILY DANCE

The urgent need to inculcate a strong sense of belonging to the nation through the school led to the creation of this dance many years ago. The dance has helped create for St. Nicholas students themselves, past and present, a clear identity and they have rallied round the school through the years with great enthusiasm and warmth.

More significantly, it has contributed greatly to the strengthening of the bond among the members of the big, extended St. Nicholas family - the students, the parents, the staff and the old girls, and there is an obvious sense of camaraderie in the community, evident in the many activities and functions of the school. In fact, we can picture the scene, ten years or thirty year down the road in the future, when all the generations of St. Nicholas students get together anywhere, this dance will immediately bring back all the fond memories of their days and friendships in St. Nicholas, and they will enjoy one another's company singing the school song and the various school community songs and even reciting the Alumnae Pledge together.

Many of the parents took time off from their very busy schedules to learn this unique dance. Their involvement in this non-academic activity speaks volumes about their attitude to education and their role in their children's education. It demonstrates parental involvement at a higher level because it involves an acceptance of the philosophy behind it and a special commitment.

CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls' School is especially proud of this feature. Apart from its uniqueness and it being the first of its kind to be introduced in schools, this dance is Singapore's cultural heritage in miniature, featuring a delightful selection of songs from our multi-cultural, multi-racial and multi-lingual background.

Each time the students, their parents and the old girls perform the movements, their awareness of the rich and colourful cultures of each community is sharpened, and each time they sing the words or ponder on the lyrics, they are reminded that the appreciation of beauty and the desire for peace and harmony is not exclusive to any one community though each expresses them differently. In short, every time they perform the family dance, a part of national education comes alive.

Indeed, this dance could also come in useful when they go overseas for further studies or as representatives of Singapore on various educational or cultural trips. They could use it as a cultural performance item. After all, in one dance they display the colourful culture of Singapore through the wonderful media of music and dance.

It is indeed one feature that should not be given a miss.
