6 September 2019 Dear Colleague, As the Schools Go Back And
6 September 2019 Dear Colleague, As the schools go back and students are gearing up for university life the UHB has been as busy as ever. To those of you who have enjoyed a summer break - welcome back. The summer period did not result in the usual dip in numbers with as many patients presenting at EU remaining as during some of our busiest winter months and this has in some areas placed some pressures on us, which is a picture replicated across the whole of Wales. Politically the activity on the run-up to Brexit has increased including a lot more interest in the health service and how we would cope with a shortage of medicines, reduced access to medical equipment and, vitally important, our staffing levels. I’m pleased to say that all of the indications for us are that there is no exodus of EU staff as a result of Brexit and the surveys completed by workforce colleagues are demonstrating that people are providing us with their nationality details so that we can engage with them on obtaining Settled Status in the UK post-Brexit. We have continued the forward planning and contingency work to ensure that we are as prepared as we possibly can be to mitigate any kind of shortages. So, while we are not complacent - none of us can be specific on what a no deal Brexit will mean for health care or health services we provide for our patients - our priority is that staff nor patients are affected adversely by any of the scenarios deal or no deal and that we will remain an open and inclusive NHS service and employer to all. -

M06 Ymateb Gan Traddodiadau Cerdd Cymru / Response from Music Traditions Wales
Cynulliad Cenedlaethol Cymru / National Assembly for Wales Pwyllgor Diwylliant, y Gymraeg a Chyfathrebu / Culture, Welsh Language and Communications Committee Diwydiant Cerddoriaeth yng Nghymru / Music Industry in Wales CWLC M06 Ymateb gan Traddodiadau Cerdd Cymru / Response from Music Traditions Wales How do local authority decisions such as business rates, licensing and planning decisions impact upon live music venues? 1. There is very little that Local authorities can do to promote live music venues unless the council has a live music strategy in place. Without the political directive to recognise and value the local music scene local authorities do not see either their social or economic value and therefore do not take measures to preserve them as part of the Authority’s Plan. 2. It’s possible for a local authority to be imaginative, use Planning Gain to require developers to support live music as a “public art”, make measurable provision of live music a condition of renewing and awarding licences but this needs leadership. 3. In our experience, a local authority’s staff, with one or two exceptions do not know how to recognise the value of a live music venue. The social benefits do not fit into their metrics. Very often a policy that seeks to attract inward investment discounts the value of small businesses. 4. Most live music in Wales does not happen in dedicated venues and theatres. It happens in bars & pubs, social clubs, meantime & pop-up spaces, fields, weddings, festivals. It is frequently a valuable part of a business for the retention of customers etc, but rarely forms the main part of a business’ revenue. -
St. John's Episcopal Church
St. John’s Episcopal Church – Islip’s Mother of Churches Second Updated Edition, Updated Edition, Copyright, 2018 Forward Three hundred and thirty-five years ago 26-year-old William Nicoll met with “Winnaquaheagh, Sachem of Connettquot” and purchased the first parcel of land in what would be Islip Town and names it “Islip Grange.” He would build a home on that land in 1701 and had church services celebrated for his family, tenants and servants in that home. His grandson, the third proprietor, also named William, 82 years later would have a chapel built on the approximate center of the Nicoll holdings. That small brown wood-shingled church on the northside of Montauk Highway in Oakdale is still a place of worship, today is often overlooked by those who rush by, but that building has been a silent witness to the growth of the Town of Islip. In its churchyard rest members of the families that built the Town. It is also a reminder and remainder of the colonial era estates, and the impact of the Nicoll and Ludlow families on the early history of the Town. For over two hundred years that family would care not only for the church but also for their beloved Islip. The story of this church and those who loved her is also the story of the Town of Islip. This second edition is very much a work in progress as more and more details are discovered every day. This is not a polished and finished work as it is hoped that this will spur interest by those who read it to know more about this survivor and the impact it had on local, state and national history. -

Cymdeithas Newsletter April 2018
05 April 2018 Warm greetings to members and supporters! We hope you have enjoyed Easter with family and friends. St David’s Day Concert The annual St David’s Day concert was held at Caernarfon Golf Club and Musical Director Viv Llewellyn led the choir and appreciative audience in an entertaining afternoon of song. Guest performer was harpist Karen Hickmott who delighted the audience with her rendition of several Welsh classics including David of the White Rock, Ar Hyd y Nos and Myfanwy. Guest speaker was Professor Jonathan Wooding, Chair of Celtic Studies, Sydney University who spoke of the life of Saint David and his relevance to our lives today. Guest Harpist Karen Hickmott Top Welsh pop group to visit Sydney Still on the musical theme, but appealing more to our younger members, top Welsh band Stereophonics is heading to Australia for a handful of shows, including a Concert Hall performance at the Sydney Opera House, on 26 April. The band has an uncanny knack for making chart-topping albums with six of their 10 albums stretching back to 1997's Word Gets Around hitting No.1 on the UK charts. Last year's Scream Above the Sounds came close to being their seventh album to hit top spot, peaking at No.2. Vocalist and guitarist Kelly Jones said the band's newer tracks were "big, anthemic songs that are rallying against those anxious feelings that have flooded through cities", while fellow founding member and bass player Richard Jones said the band was "always trying to move forward, to find new things we can do". -

Were it to begin with a quotation from Holy Writ, it would be: "Other men labored and ye are entered into their labors." In a sketch published in 1899 in the North Carolina Baptist Historical Papers, Dr. T. J. Taylor, who lived in Charlotte prior to 1870, and who now lives in Warrenton, N. C, says: "There is no account of any Baptist residing in the neighborhood of Charlotte until toward the close of the eighteenth century. This absence of record does not necessarily prove that there were no Baptists among the early settlers; for, in the midst of a strongly Presbyterian population, and with no church organization, a few isolated Baptists would have no opportunity of putting themselves on record as such." Dr. T. H. Pritchard wrote, in 1896 "The first Baptist known in Mecklenburg County was John Dinkins, the great-grandfather of Rev. Dr. Thomas H. Pritchard. He was an Irishman, and a man of means, and resided on the Nation Ford Road, half a mile beyond the Mineral Spring, on Sugar Creek. -
