At the airport we boarded our bus and drove the short distance to Mandria beach. Although it was already late afternoon in Cyprus, here we had a chance to stretch our legs, get some fresh air, feel the warmth of the Mediterranean sun and begin to explore the nature of Cyprus in winter. Amongst the coastal scrub at the back of the beach we noted some familiar Painted Lady butterflies and a flock of lovely Greenfinches that positively glowed in the low winter sun. The scrub was full of Stonechats and noisy Sardinian Warblers, a chattering call that would form the backdrop to our trip wherever we went. A Zitting Cisticola popped up briefly but our attention was drawn to the recently ploughed fields beyond the scrub.

Visitors are encouraged to access our website featuring detailed information as well as a MAP to assist in locating each studio or workspace. Η ετήσια αυτή διοργάνωση προσφέρει στον επισκέπτη την δυνατότητα να γνωρίσει μεμονωμενους καλλιτέχνες και τεχνίτες, οι οποίοι ζουν και εργάζονται στην Κύπρο στα δικά τους στούντιο, στο δικό τους χώρο δημιουργίας. Individual participants elected certain weekends to be open to the public – please look at the schedule to avoid disappointment. Entrance is free and visitors are under no obligation to buy, but we live in hope! And don’t forget to enter the competition: see the inside back cover for the entry form. Many of the participants undertake commissions – please consult with them direct. Banners bearing the distinctive orange splash will be displayed near the entrance to each open studio. Should you require specific information, please contact the studio or artist direct – you will be assisted.

Cyprus is an island of beauty and a country of contrasts. Cool, pine-clad mountains are a complete scene-change after golden sun- kissed beaches; tranquil, timeless villages are in striking contrast to modern cosmopolitan towns; luxurious beachside hotels can be exchanged for large areas of natural, unspoilt countryside; yet in Cyprus all distances are easily manageable, mostly on modern roads and highways - with a secondary route or two for the more adventurous.
