Loki Production Brief
PRODUCTION BRIEF “I am Loki, and I am burdened with glorious purpose.” —Loki arvel Studios’ “Loki,” an original live-action series created exclusively for Disney+, features the mercurial God of Mischief as he steps out of his brother’s shadow. The series, described as a crime-thriller meets epic-adventure, takes place after the events Mof “Avengers: Endgame.” “‘Loki’ is intriguingly different with a bold creative swing,” says Kevin Feige, President, Marvel Studios and Chief Creative Officer, Marvel. “This series breaks new ground for the Marvel Cinematic Universe before it, and lays the groundwork for things to come.” The starting point of the series is the moment in “Avengers: Endgame” when the 2012 Loki takes the Tesseract—from there Loki lands in the hands of the Time Variance Authority (TVA), which is outside of the timeline, concurrent to the current day Marvel Cinematic Universe. In his cross-timeline journey, Loki finds himself a fish out of water as he tries to navigate—and manipulate—his way through the bureaucratic nightmare that is the Time Variance Authority and its by-the-numbers mentality. This is Loki as you have never seen him. Stripped of his self- proclaimed majesty but with his ego still intact, Loki faces consequences he never thought could happen to such a supreme being as himself. In that, there is a lot of humor as he is taken down a few pegs and struggles to find his footing in the unforgiving bureaucracy of the Time Variance Authority. As the series progresses, we see different sides of Loki as he is drawn into helping to solve a serious crime with an agent 1 of the TVA, Mobius, who needs his “unique Loki perspective” to locate the culprits and mend the timeline. -
Celebrating Forty Years of Films Worth Talking About
2 NOV 18 6 DEC 18 1 | 2 NOV 18 - 6 DEC 18 88 LOTHIAN ROAD | FILMHOUSEcinema.COM CELEBRATING FORTY YEARS OF FILMS WORTH TALKING ABOUT Move over, Braveheart! Last month saw the culmination of our 40th anniversary celebrations here at Filmhouse, and it has been hugely interesting time (for me at any rate!) comparing the us of now with the us of then. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed spending time talking to Filmhouse’s first Artistic Director, Jim Hickey, and finding out in more detail than I knew what myriad ways the business of running Filmhouse has stayed the same and the as many ways it has not (one of these days I’ll write it all down and you can find out how interesting it is for yourselves!). UK film distribution itself has changed immeasurably – the dawn of the multiplex in the latter half of the 1980s saw to that. Back in 1978, Filmhouse itself was part of a sort of movement that saw the birth of a number of similar venues around the UK whose aim was to show a kind of cinema (predominantly foreign language) that simply was not catered for within mainstream film exhibition. Despite 40 years having passed and much having changed, the notion of an audience-driven, ‘curated’ cinema like Filmhouse remains something of a film exhibition anomaly; and something Jim Hickey wrote 30+ years ago rings just as true today as it did then: “But best of all, the new cinemas are being run by those who care about audiences as well as the films that they have paid to watch.” Now, we’ve got a bit of a first for you in November, for we have metaphorically got into bed with Netflix to give one of their films a hugely deserved, exclusive, short run in a cinema – namely David Mackenzie’s splendidly entertaining Robert the Bruce epic, Outlaw King. -

BTI Seeks Test for Genetically Modified Virus
3 Cornell Time travel CHRONICLE 7 Dance Concert '89 7 Volume 20 Number 23 March 2, 1989 Pianist Alfred Brendel and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra BTI seeks test for genetically modified virus Permission to field test a genetically modified insect vi- rus for control of a major insect pest of vegetables is being sought by scientists at the Boyce Thompson Institute for Plant Research. The researchers have asked the U.S. Environmental Pro- tection Agency to approve the first field test in the United States of a genetically altered insect virus, one that is de- signed to kill the target insect but not persist in the environ- ment. To create this altered virus, BTI researchers removed a single gene from a naturally occurring virus. This gene codes for a protective covering for the virus, and without the covering the virus is disabled and cannot persist in the envi- ronment. The field test, planned for Geneva, N.Y., this summer, will help scientists develop new insect-pest-killing viruses that are safer than chemicals. This field test is a joint proj- ect of Boyce Thompson Institute and the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva. This proposed field test is the latest in a continuing series with genetically altered organisms that have been success- fully conducted throughout the country and overseas. The researchers will be testing a "baculovirus," a type of virus that does not infect mammals but only invertebrates such as insects. The baculovirus to be tested is called "Autographa californica nuclear polyhedrosis virus" (AcMNPV). Scientists throughout the United States already have made numerous field applications of the wild-type AcMNPV and other unaltered baculoviruses over the past two decades, according to H. -

His former lover, Hollywood actress Gloria Grahame, had collapsed in a Lancaster hotel. She refused medical attention and instead reached out to Turner, who at Grahame’s request took her to his warm if chaotic family home in Liverpool. The pair had met a few years previously, their paths crossing in a Primrose Hill guesthouse in which they were lodging. Turner was an aspiring actor, Grahame a fading star. She had made her name in the Hollywood studio system, often playing the moll, the floozy or as Turner notes in his memoir ‘the tart with the heart,’ appearing in a string of film noirs, including the likes of the sad and hauntingly romantic In a Lonely Place with Humphrey Bogart (shot by her husband at the time, Nicholas Ray) and the Fritz Lang classic The Big Heat opposite Lee Marvin. Gloria shone in the likes of Crossfire, for which she was Oscar nominated, Naked Alibi and Sudden Fear, while her turn in The Bad and The Beautiful scooped her an Oscar win for Best Supporting Actress. -
Mainstreaming Universal Design in Cape Town: Fifa 2010 World Cup™-Related Activities As Catalysts for Social Change
MAINSTREAMING UNIVERSAL DESIGN IN CAPE TOWN: FIFA 2010 WORLD CUP™-RELATED ACTIVITIES AS CATALYSTS FOR SOCIAL CHANGE by MUGENDI KANAMPIU M’RITHAA Thesis submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree Doctor of Technology: DESIGN in the Faculty of Informatics and Design at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology Supervisor: Professor David A.V. Boonzaier Co-supervisor: Professor Simeon E.H. Davies Cape Town (December 2009) DECLARATION I, Mugendi Kanampiu M’Rithaa, declare that the contents of this thesis represent my own unaided work, and that the thesis has not previously been submitted for academic examination towards any qualification. Furthermore, it represents my own opinions and not necessarily those of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. 7th December 2009 Signed Date ii ABSTRACT Universal Design (UD), as it is known in the USA and elsewhere, is an inclusive approach to designing for the broader population and is rapidly gaining popularity amongst design practitioners and planners globally. Similar non-exclusive approaches have evolved in diverse parts of the world to counter the systemic disablement and exclusion of vulnerable/special populations of users perpetuated by traditional approaches to design. The transdisciplinary field of UD is informed by concilience in accommodating a wide range of related fields, such as education, landscape architecture, architecture, town and regional planning, industrial/product/three-dimensional design, furniture design, interior design, communication/information/graphic design, interaction design, human-computer interaction (HCI)/usability studies, and ergonomics/human factors engineering. UD proposes a collaborative systems approach that benefits from the synergies of cross-functionalism by approaching the diverse challenges facing society through socially responsible design. -
