Race in Hollywood: Quantifying the Effect of Race on Movie Performance
Race in Hollywood: Quantifying the Effect of Race on Movie Performance Kaden Lee Brown University 20 December 2014 Abstract I. Introduction This study investigates the effect of a movie’s racial The underrepresentation of minorities in Hollywood composition on three aspects of its performance: ticket films has long been an issue of social discussion and sales, critical reception, and audience satisfaction. Movies discontent. According to the Census Bureau, minorities featuring minority actors are classified as either composed 37.4% of the U.S. population in 2013, up ‘nonwhite films’ or ‘black films,’ with black films defined from 32.6% in 2004.3 Despite this, a study from USC’s as movies featuring predominantly black actors with Media, Diversity, & Social Change Initiative found that white actors playing peripheral roles. After controlling among 600 popular films, only 25.9% of speaking for various production, distribution, and industry factors, characters were from minority groups (Smith, Choueiti the study finds no statistically significant differences & Pieper 2013). Minorities are even more between films starring white and nonwhite leading actors underrepresented in top roles. Only 15.5% of 1,070 in all three aspects of movie performance. The Fighter (2010) Appassionata Cronistoria Di Un Combattente, Tra Vizi Privati E Pubbliche Virtù
Genere Drammatico durata 115 minuti. Produzione USA 2010. -
Hall Pass – Bios for Prelim Notes
HALL PASS Best buds Rick and Fred (Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis) have both been married for many years. When they begin to show signs of restlessness at home, their wives (Jenna Fischer and Christina Applegate) take a bold approach to revitalize their marriages: they grant the guys a “hall pass,” one week of freedom to do whatever they want. No questions asked. At first, it sounds like a dream come true for Rick and Fred, but they quickly discover that their expectations of the single life—and themselves—are completely and hilariously out of sync with reality. “Hall Pass,” a new comedy from the Farrelly brothers (“There’s Something About Mary,” “Dumb and Dumber”), stars Owen Wilson (“Wedding Crashers,” “Marley & Me”) as Rick, and Jason Sudeikis (“What Happens in Vegas,” “Going the Distance”) as Fred. Jenna Fischer (TV’s “The Office”) stars as Rick’s wife, Maggie; Richard Jenkins (“Step Brothers”) as the guys’ old friend, perpetual bachelor Coakley; and Christina Applegate (“Going the Distance,” TV’s “Samantha Who?”) as Fred’s wife, Grace. “Hall Pass” is directed and produced by Peter Farrelly & Bobby Farrelly, from a screenplay by Pete Jones & Peter Farrelly & Kevin Barnett & Bobby Farrelly, story by Pete Jones. Re-teaming with the Farrellys are producer Bradley Thomas and executive producer Marc S. Fischer, who collaborated with the Farrellys on their hit comedies “There’s Something About Mary” and “Shallow Hall.” Also serving as executive producers are Toby Emmerich, Richard Brener and Merideth Finn, with co-producers Mark Charpentier and John Rickard. The creative filmmaking team includes director of photography Matthew F. -
Loki Production Brief
PRODUCTION BRIEF “I am Loki, and I am burdened with glorious purpose.” —Loki arvel Studios’ “Loki,” an original live-action series created exclusively for Disney+, features the mercurial God of Mischief as he steps out of his brother’s shadow. The series, described as a crime-thriller meets epic-adventure, takes place after the events Mof “Avengers: Endgame.” “‘Loki’ is intriguingly different with a bold creative swing,” says Kevin Feige, President, Marvel Studios and Chief Creative Officer, Marvel. “This series breaks new ground for the Marvel Cinematic Universe before it, and lays the groundwork for things to come.” The starting point of the series is the moment in “Avengers: Endgame” when the 2012 Loki takes the Tesseract—from there Loki lands in the hands of the Time Variance Authority (TVA), which is outside of the timeline, concurrent to the current day Marvel Cinematic Universe. In his cross-timeline journey, Loki finds himself a fish out of water as he tries to navigate—and manipulate—his way through the bureaucratic nightmare that is the Time Variance Authority and its by-the-numbers mentality. This is Loki as you have never seen him. Stripped of his self- proclaimed majesty but with his ego still intact, Loki faces consequences he never thought could happen to such a supreme being as himself. In that, there is a lot of humor as he is taken down a few pegs and struggles to find his footing in the unforgiving bureaucracy of the Time Variance Authority. As the series progresses, we see different sides of Loki as he is drawn into helping to solve a serious crime with an agent 1 of the TVA, Mobius, who needs his “unique Loki perspective” to locate the culprits and mend the timeline. -

“I Want to Contribute to the Creation of the Warsaw Ghetto Museum”
“I want to contribute to the creation of the Warsaw Ghetto Museum” Charles B. Wessler, American producer of, among others “Green Book” – a comedy drama directed by Peter Farrelly, which was awarded three Oscars and three Golden Globes, supports the creation of a permanent exhibition of the Warsaw Ghetto Museum. Especially for us, he answered a few questions. In 1994, Wessler jumped in at the deep end of production in Hollywood with the comedy “Dumb and Dumber” by Peter and Bobby Farrelly, with whom he established a long-term cooperation. It was with the Farrely Brothers that he produced “There’s Something About Mary” with Cameron Diaz, “Me, Myself & Irene” with Jim Carrey, “Shallow Hal” with Gwyneth Paltrow, “Stuck on You” with Matt Damon, “The Heartbreak Kid” with Ben Stiller, and “Hall Pass” with Owen Wilson. His latest production, “Green Book” with Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali, brought him critical acclaim and the reputation of the Oscar producer. This movie is set in the realities of the American South – apart from the scenes taking place in New York – in the early 1960s, focuses on the relationship of a black pianist and his white chauffeur, a former club bouncer. The movie is against stereotypical thinking and intolerance, and for acceptance of one’s roots. Charles B. Wessler family’s roots go back to eastern and western Europe. His grandparents from the mother’s and father’s side came to the United States in the years 1908 to 1918. “One grandmother comes from Belarus, the second one from Germany. Grandfather Jack came from Poland and the second grandfather from Austria,” says the producer. -

“I grew up loving cars and the Southern California car culture. My dad was a parts manager at a Chevrolet dealership, so ‘Cars’ was very personal to me — the characters, the small town, their love and support for each other and their way of life. I couldn’t stop thinking about them. I wanted to take another road trip to new places around the world, and I thought a way into that world could be another passion of mine, the spy movie genre. I just couldn’t shake that idea of marrying the two distinctly different worlds of Radiator Springs and international intrigue. And here we are.” — John Lasseter, Director ABOUT THE PRODUCTION Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Studios are off to the races in “Cars 2” as star racecar Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and his best friend, the incomparable tow truck Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy), jump-start a new adventure to exotic new lands stretching across the globe. The duo are joined by a hometown pit crew from Radiator Springs when they head overseas to support Lightning as he competes in the first-ever World Grand Prix, a race created to determine the world’s fastest car. But the road to the finish line is filled with plenty of potholes, detours and bombshells when Mater is mistakenly ensnared in an intriguing escapade of his own: international espionage. Mater finds himself torn between assisting Lightning McQueen in the high-profile race and “towing” the line in a top-secret mission orchestrated by master British spy Finn McMissile (voice of Michael Caine) and the stunning rookie field spy Holley Shiftwell (voice of Emily Mortimer). -
