Introduction 1.1. Ashfield, Broxtowe, Erewash, Gedling, Nottingham City and Rushcliffe Councils are working jointly in order to prepare evidence to support the emerging aligned Core Strategies and Local Development Frameworks within their districts. Nottinghamshire County Council is assisting in this work. Part of the evidence base will be to inform the authorities about suitable settlements for the location of appropriate levels of development. 1.2. The aim of any spatial development strategy is to ensure that new development takes place at the appropriate scale in the most sustainable settlements. Most development should be concentrated within those settlements with the largest range of shops and services with more limited development within local service centres and villages.
