The Father’s Day stalls will be out in force tomorrow for our children to select a Father’s Day present for their dads so please remember to ensure they bring a few dollars in please for this. A massive Thank You to Ahna and her army of volunteers for organising this! Indigenous Book Swap, Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge, Book Week Parade and Brilliant Writer’s Competition. Next Wednesday we are holding our annual Indigenous Book Swap where we ask children to bring in a book and a few dollars and we swap books and raise some money to improve the literacy skills of many of our disadvantaged Indigenous children across the country. Any help and support you can give to this worthy cause is appreciated. Also please remember the Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge ends next Thursday. We have had 100% participation for the last two years and we would love to make it three in a row- the school receives valuable resources (books!) for our involvement so please encourage your children to have that final push to achieve the goal (it’s forecast to rain all day on Saturday!). Also please remember to encourage your child to participate in the Brilliant Writers Competition that was officially launched last Friday at the Book Week Assembly. A huge thank you to Luned Scholfield and Daniela Banda and the rest of the committee members who have helped organise these events, our parents for helping children with their wonderful costumes last week for the Parade and to the P&C who have again generously provided the prizes for the children for the Brilliant Writer’s Competition. Students Excelling Katie I has been selected in the ACT School Sport Swimming team to compete at the Australian School Sport Championships in Darwin in mid-September. Katie will be competing in the 50m freestyle, 50m and 100m backstroke, 200m individual medley and relay teams which is a massive achievement! Also, Kaide S has been selected as the team Captain for this year’s National Championships to be held in Coff’s Harbour in Mid-October which is a great honour! We wish both of these children every success in their sporting endeavours! Also we are taking two teams to Tournament of Minds at the ANU this Saturday and they will be competing in challenges that challenge the mind! We wish them every success and I would like to thank Eliza, Monique, Sarah and Lara in giving up their afternoons this term to support the children in this! School Leadership Sandra Hall is taking leave over the next two weeks and Nicole Jaggers is covering as the acting Deputy. Eliza Bensley is taking Nicole’s role and we have employed Susan Mollison (a regular relief teacher in our school) to backfill and cover 5 Bensley. I understand this can cause some disruption to our classes but part of my role is to build leaders in our school and so to help this it is beneficial they have the opportunity to do this. I know you will join with me in congratulating both Nicole and Eliza on this. Achieving Educational Excellence in a Caring Environment 6205 7533 Miles Franklin Primary School www.mfps.act.edu.au Newsletter – September 1 2016 Learning Journeys Thank you to all the parents and carers who have attended the Learning Journeys so far in Years One, Four and Five. Next week we have Kindergarten and we hope to see you there! Satisfaction Surveys Thank you all for taking the time to complete the satisfaction surveys over the last three weeks. Once we have the results collated we will publish them in the newsletter. Chris. Message from Deputy Principal What an exciting few weeks we have had. Staff have been busy with Individual Learning/Educational Plans. Our parents and carers have been pleased with how their children have been working and achieving. It is such a delight to give positive feedback to parents about their child’s progress. The teachers and Learning Support Assistants are very dedicated to improving learning outcomes for our students. This week and in the coming weeks we have Learning Journeys and I was privileged to be part of one on Tuesday afternoon in Year 5. I am in awe of what the students have produced and how they related it to their units of inquiry. Some of the wonderful Learning Journeys I have seen so far are: • Year 5: Their developing understanding and exploration of Sharing the Planet made an opening to explore what is happening in this environment of ours. The enthusiasm was something that I admire in these students. Their knowledge around water, pollination, habitats and the destruction of all resources in our world shows an amazing understanding of the issues in Australia and globally. • Year 4: Their Belonging Expo around creating an organisation and the benefits of it to our society was exciting and challenging. All the parents gave positive feedback and were excited about their child’s learning on a variety of organisation. I would love to learn about weaving, knitting and Pokémon Go. The things that are essential to make a community run smoothly. • Kindergarten classes will be having their Learning Journey next week and behold the exciting activities that will happen in their classroom. Maths games, reading, writing, and inquiry display. Parents get ready for these amazing little people to demonstrate their brilliance and intelligence, knowledge and skills. Please fill in the pat on the back for you child as everyone loves positive feedback. My little bit of advice for parents is to check up on your Literacy and Numeracy skills because you just never know if you will be stumped by the little people. Achieving Educational Excellence in a Caring Environment 6205 7533 Miles Franklin Primary School www.mfps.act.edu.au Newsletter – September 1 2016 • Preschool’s Learning Journey will be in Week 9. Be prepared for the most exciting adventure in the world. Pottery making, dancing and singing, literacy and numeracy tables, fun for everyone. Again feedback is import to these special little children. Also on the Saturday 17 September, Week 9 will be our Welcome to New Families Fun day. The amazing and yes I do say amazing committee members and teachers are working hard to make it an exciting day for new and current families. Book Week Assembly Thank you to all the parents who put considerable effort and imagination in to their child’s costume . As a community we enjoyed it immensely. I think the teachers had as much fun as the students, but the Crayons in the box take the prize . What a wonderful school we have and the educational outputs are to be commended, not every school can boast about their students and believe me we DO! Regards Sandra. PS. Special thanks you to De Barnes, Meg King and Kirstie Jozing our school would be lost without you. VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS The rates for contributions are $100.00 for one child $160.00 for two children, and $210.00 for three or more children. Please nominate if you would like this payment put to the Library Trust Fund. Please don’t forget to send your child to school on FRIDAY with a few dollars to spend for Dad or Grandpa or a special person to them. The P&C donates the proceeds of these events to school projects like the shade sails over the play equipment. If you would like to get involved, please come on down to the hall on Friday morning and you can help children to choose and pay for gifts. See you there! Music Scheme News The 2016 Miles Franklin Music Festival was a big success, raising over $600 for the music scheme committee. Money raised from the festival allows the music committee to purchase new musical items including upgrades and replacements for the school, ensuring students at Miles Franklin continue to receive quality musical education. A very big thank you to all those who volunteered their time and efforts as without volunteers, the festival would not have gone ahead.

  • Melbourne Vs Richmond
WOMEN’S TWENTY20 SATURDAY MELBOURNE STARS V JANUARY 2, 2016 FACT SHEET MELBOURNE RENEGADES LIBRARY Australian Women’s Domestic Twenty20 (T20) – A Brief History Victoria Spirit (4/135) defeated the New South Wales Breakers (6/118) by 17 runs in an unofficial women’s domestic T20 match which was organised by Cricket Victoria at the Richmond Cricket Ground on December 20, 2006. Victoria batted first with player-of-the-match Catherine Fitzpatrick top scoring with 42 runs off 30 balls (1 six, 4 fours). She was supported by Sarah Edwards 37 (32 balls, 1 four) and Rachael Haynes 25 (31 balls, 3 fours). In reply for NSW Lisa Sthalekar top scored with 36 (26 balls, 6 fours) supported by Kate Blackwell 30 (22 balls, 4 fours). Vic Spirit’s Clea Smith was the only multiple wicket taker of the match with figures of 2/19 off four overs. Although she went wicketless Vic Spirit’s Catherine Fitzpatrick, was the most economical bowler of the match conceding only 14 runs from her four overs. It was the tight bowling by the Victorians that contained the New South Wales batters and won the match. In November 2007 a series of five matches were played as part of a women’s interstate T20 tournament. Each state played two matches but no final was programmed. The participating teams were New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia. In the 2008/09 season the women’s domestic T20 competition was expanded with two tournaments being staged. The Women’s Interstate T20 tournament consisted of a series of five matches played by the same states that had played the previous season.
