But it wasn't long before Anna Bullock's rising vocals stole the show, and in 1960 the band turned to Ike and Tina Turner Revue. In addition to Ikea, Tina has earned critical thanks and commercial success with singles A Fool in Love, River Deep – Mountain High, Proud Mary, and Nutbush City Limits. The Singles earned both nationally and internationally, and the result was an opening for the Rolling Stones. In 1974, Ike's drug habit and lavish behavior by Tina Turner left the band to pursue a solo career. A year later in 1975, Turner was offered the role of the southed queen in who's film version of Tommy. Despite the memorable performance, the film was all too forgettable, and soon it passed out of public consciousness. The first few of Turner's solo releases Acid Queen, Rough and Love Explosion are all ill-planned and could all too well take away the singer's minor dispossession. However, Tina Turner returned with a reservation from the like-for-like Rod Stewart, The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry and David Bowie, and in 1983 released Al Green Cover Let's Stay Together. In doing so, Turner was catapulted into the U.S. and numerous European charts, and caused the singer to be inking three albums with Capitol Records. Private Dance was released in June 1984 on the Billboard 200 chart. With sales of more than 11 million copies, the album was released by grammy-winning, No. 1 single What's Love Got to Do It, along with Better Be Good to Me and Private Dancer. After its release, Turner played the role of Aunt Entity in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, for which she later won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress. In 1986, the singer released the single Typical Male, after which Turnen's music departed from the upper echelons Foreign Affair albums in 1989, Wildest Dreams in 1986 and Twenty Four Seven earned strong reviews from critics in 2000, and they all saw a respectable ranking. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

    Songs with a Message: Common Themes in Swedish 1970s Rock/Folk Songs ALF ARVIDSSON An alternative music scene grew in Sweden in the early 1970s. This music scene suddenly and unexpectedly created a huge impact on mass media and became a leading force that challenged conventional ideas concerning the shape and form of popular music. 1 Eventually, it became known as “the progressive music movement.” One effect of this movement was that lyrics about “political” topics, which were previously only heard at demonstrations and meetings of organisations, became common, even presupposed, in rock music. 2 Many LP albums were produced by a few independent record companies; on the whole, they show a rich array of topics that could be understood as having a political relevance to a young audience. The movement had a broad musical profile, including a revitalisation of Swedish folk fiddling, and many groups playing instrumental music at the crossroads of rock and jazz traditions. However, this study deals only with music containing song lyrics. Of course, within a wide frame of interpretation all song lyrics can be ascribed a concrete political meaning—for example, by dealing with “harmless” themes, lyrics can serve to hide power relations and injustice, and thus have a conservative function. I am mainly interested in expressions that involve a distinct intention to pose political questions. My interest lies not with the lyricist’s or singer’s own stance or experience (although there was a strong emphasis on authenticity), but in the lyrics as possible to sing on a stage with an audience where themes and lyrics could have a political meaning.
