Cotton Textile Industry National Affairs • Cotton textile industry comprises of three sectors: mill sector, handloom and powerloom. • The share of large mill, handloom and powerloom sector in the total production of cotton cloth in 1998-99 was 5.4 per cent, 20.6 percent and 74 per cent respectively. • Maharashtra is the leading producer of cotton textile in the country. • Mumbai is the major centre of textile mills. About a half of the Cotton textile mills are located in Mumbai alone. It is, therefore, rightly called as ‘Cottonpolis’ of India. National Affairs • Gujarat, which ranks second in the production of cotton textiles, Ahamedabad is the major centre of the state. Surat, Bharauch, Vadodara, Bhavnagar and Rajkot are other centers in the state National Affairs B. Silk Textile Industry National Affairs • Indian Silk is known for its exquisiteness world over and has a long history of silk exports. • India holds 2nd position after China in the field of silk production. • There are four different types of silk- (1) Mulberry (2) Tasar (3) Eri (4) Muga (golden yellow). • India is also the 2nd largest producer of tasar after China. India has also a monopoly in Muga, Assam is the only producer. National Affairs C. Jute Industry National Affairs • Jute is a rain-fed crop with little need for fertilizer or pesticides. • The production is concentrated in India and Bangladesh. • India with overall of 66% of world’s production tops the production of jute. Bangladesh with 25% lies at second position followed way behind by China with 3%.     Press Information Bureau Government of India ***** Union Human Resource Development Minister Shri Prakash Javadekar chairs the 65th Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) Education is a national agenda which empowers the individual, family, society and the nation – Shri Prakash Javadekar The 65th Meeting of the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) was held under the Chairmanship of Union Human Resource Development Minister Shri Prakash Javadekar here today. A number of decisions were taken at the meeting, in part flowing from the agenda, and in part stemming from concerns raised by the State Governments. The following resolutions were adopted:- i. It would be our endeavour to launch „Operation Digital Board‟ in all schools in five years. This will be undertaken jointly by Centre, State, CSR, and community. This will improve the quality of education. Students will be empowered with 360 degree information with interesting learning experience and teacher accountability will also increase. ii. We are committed to ensure Quality, Equity, Accessibility, Accountability and Affordability in education by pro-active action and plan. iii. We are commited to promote Swacch Bharat, Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat, Padhe Bharat, Sugamya Bharat and physical education. iv. We resolve to promote human value education, life skill education, experiential learning to bring out good human beings out of the education system. Speaking on the occasion Union Minister for Human Resource Development Shri Prakash Javadekar emphasised that education is a national agenda which empowers the individual, family, society and the nation. India's 1950 Constitution provides for a quasi-federal setup: powers are separated between the central union and the 28 state governments. Competences are allocated according to administrative level, between the Union, states or 'concurrently'. The prime minister possesses the country's effective executive power. As 'Leader of the House' in the lower chamber, the prime minister also holds decisive power in deciding the House's agenda. However, the real power of initiating legislation belongs to the government, and the Parliament has no say on foreign affairs. India's Parliament is bicameral: it includes the Lok Sabha – the lower house – and the Rajya Sabha – the upper house. The two houses are equal, but the Lok Sabha dominates in deciding certain financial matters and on the collective responsibility of the Council of Ministers. General elections take place for Lok Sabha members every five years. The last elections took place in May 2019, when Narendra Modi was re-elected as Prime Minister.
