Officials are warning of a possible scam in Clearview Township. Municipal officials have received reports of door-to-door sales representatives in the Stayner area posing as Township staff as an attempt to enter private residences. The reports have indicated that the sales representatives are asking questions about water quality, water heaters, air conditioners, and furnaces. If a Township representative needs to visit a residence or business, it will usually be at a mutually agreed upon appointment time. Township employees carry appropriate identification and will generally arrive in Township marked vehicles. Residents are under no obligation to let sales representatives into their homes. In 25 years the business has steadily grown as a producer and supplier or seed, into an expanding farm market. The goal, said Dwayne, is to stock the store, located on Airport Road south of Stayner, almost entirely with products made and grown on the farm. Dwayne started the business with his father Allen (the A in A&D) in 1992. Dwayne was 23 at the time and the birdseed business was to complement the family farm operation. “We were looking for a way to market our grains, other than taking them to the elevator,” said Dwayne. Back then, the seed was mixed in the drive shed and packaged in the basement of their home and sold out of a storage box. A couple of years later they built a retail location on Highway 26 and continued to grow from there. In 2013, the current property was purchased and the building was renovated in time to Staff photo: Trina Berlo open the following year. The Simcoe County District School Board has begun the process of disposing of the Nottawasaga and Creemore Public School Annex, which has been declared surplus to the school board’s needs. The charming red brick building was originally built in 1917 as the Creemore Public and Continuation School and saw many students through its doors until it was shuttered in 2014 due to declining enrolment. The property is currently on offer to the municipality but if there is no interest from the township, the county, province or country, the school will be sold at fair market value. We took to Facebook to ask our readers what they wanted to see become of the old school, which holds a special place in the hearts of many. We got some great suggestions. One theme that came through was to keep the building accessible to the community. A public space for arts and culture, perhaps. Housing was another suggestion. With so much talk of seniors housing these past couple of years, people suggested it be converted to condos or apartments, with an elevator. Many of the plans would require the investment of a developer, perhaps working in partnership with a community group.
