A Message from the 2015 Art Show and Crossroads Premiere Superintendent… Albion Central celebrated the graduation of 131 students on Fri., June 26, 2015. Though this class is small in number, like the little engine that climbed the hill, “The Little Class that Could” committed themselves to great successes on their path to becoming the newest Purple Eagle Alumni! Despite their size, during their high school years, this class and their schoolmates earned 11 first-place finishes in marching band competitions (including three undefeated seasons); won four first-place finishes in jazz ensemble competitions (including three “Superior” ratings); accumulated more than fifty top NYSSMA, All-County, Area All-State, and Conference All- State recognitions; and added outstanding singing and acting ensemble designations, three outstanding dance ensemble nods, two outstanding musical recognitions, and three Outstanding Student Pit Orchestra awards for their school musical productions from the Rochester Broadway Theater League’s Stars of Tomorrow Program. The list of their accomplishments (or attendance at any one of their performances) makes it easy to understand why ACS was recognized as a “Best Community for Music Education” during each year of their high school years. Their and students who inspire me every day!” total commitment to their community was the equivalent of 180 40-hour work weeks. The Albion Central community has long been focused on opportunity, providing a tremendous number and variety of opportunities for its youth. The class of 2015 made the most of these opportunities in athletics, arts, alternative programs, advanced and Albion HS Alumni Foundation Awards college options. The opportunities available to these graduates and to generations of $39,650 in Scholarships Albion students earned our high school recognition in the inaugural class of “Schools of Opportunity.” The "Washington Post" newspaper noted “Schools of Opportunity” recognized 10 high schools out of more than 1,000 in New York State and seven more in Colorado (the two states participating in the first year of the program) for their use of “research-based practices to ensure that all students have rich opportunities to succeed." The Post went on to note that these 17 schools may be working against great odds, but that each puts “students, not scores, first.” We are grateful for the community support that allows us to provide these opportunities for our students, grateful that our community has been recognized for doing so, and proud of these students who have taken advantage of these opportunities! I wish the very best for each member of the class of 2015, and look forward to the return of the rest of our students– so that they may use the opportunities available to them to create their own successes. On behalf of the ACS faculty and staff, I wish each of you a safe and enjoyable summer.
