The first floor leaders were formally designated in 1920 (Democrats) and 1925 (Republicans). The Senate Republican and Democratic floor leaders are elected by the members of their party in the Senate at the beginning of each Congress. Depending on which party is in power, one serves as majority leader and the other as minority leader. The leaders serve as spokespersons for their parties' positions on issues. The majority leader schedules the daily legislative program and fashions the unanimous consent agreements that govern the time for debate. The majority leader has the right to be called upon first if several senators are seeking recognition by the presiding officer, which enables him to offer motions or amendments before any other senator. Majority and Minority Leaders Elected at the beginning of each Congress by members of their respective party conferences to represent them on the Senate floor, the majority and minority leaders serve as spokesmen for their parties' positions on the issues. The majority leader has also come to speak for the Senate as an institution. Working with the committee chairs and ranking members, the majority leader schedules business on the floor by calling bills from the calendar and keeps members of his party advised about the daily legislative program.

The atmospheric composition of exoplanets with masses between 2 and 10 M is poorly understood. In that regard, the sub-Neptune K2-18b, which is subject to Earth-like stellar irradiation, offers a valuable opportunity⊕ for the characterisation of such atmospheres. Previous analyses of its transmission spectrum from the Kepler, Hubble (HST), and Spitzer space telescopes data using both retrieval algorithms and forward-modelling suggest the presence of H2O and an H2–He atmosphere, but have not detected other gases, such as CH4. Aims. We present simulations of the atmosphere of K2-18 b using Exo-REM, our self-consistent 1D radiative-equilibrium model, using a large grid of atmospheric parameters to infer constraints on its chemical composition. Methods. We compared the transmission spectra computed by our model with the above-mentioned data (0.4–5 µm), assuming an H2–He dominated atmosphere. We investigated the effects of irradiation, eddy diffusion coefficient, internal temperature, clouds, C/O ratio, and metallicity on the atmospheric structure and transit spectrum. Results. We show that our simulations favour atmospheric metallicities between 40 and 500 times solar and indicate, in some cases, the formation of H2O-ice clouds, but not liquid H2O clouds.

Bonnie was a tropical storm that formed from non-tropical origins northeast of the Bahamas. It made landfall near Charleston, South Carolina, as a tropical depression and brought heavy rainfall to coastal sections of the Carolinas. Tropical Storm Bonnie 2 Tropical Storm Bonnie 27 MAY – 4 JUNE 2016 SYNOPTIC HISTORY Bonnie originated from a mid- to upper-level low that cut off from the mid-latitude westerlies over the Bahamas on 25 May. An inverted surface trough formed about 350 n mi north- northeast of the southeastern Bahamas that day and began to move slowly westward to west- northwestward. Although southwesterly vertical wind shear displaced the convective activity to the north and east of the trough, by 0600 UTC 27 May a well-defined area of low pressure formed about 270 n mi east-northeast of the island of Eleuthera in the central Bahamas. The convective organization gradually increased that day, and a tropical depression formed around 1800 UTC, centered about 180 n mi miles northeast of Great Abaco in the Bahamas. The “best track” chart of the tropical cyclone’s path is given in Fig. 1, with the wind and pressure histories shown in Figs. 2 and 3, respectively. The best track positions and intensities are listed in Table 11.

Papillon7, Franco Rossi7, and Miguel Socolovsky7 [email protected] ABSTRACT We report the discovery of 14 new transiting planet candidates in the Kepler field from the Planet Hunters citizen science program. None of these candidates overlapped with Kepler Objects of Interest (KOIs) at the time of submission. We report the discovery of one more addition to the six planet candidate system around KOI-351, making it the only seven planet candidate system from Kepler. Additionally, KOI-351 bears some resemblance to our own solar system, with the inner five planets ranging from Earth to mini-Neptune radii and the outer planets being gas giants; however, this system is very compact, with all seven planet candidates orbiting . 1 AU from their host star. A Hill stability test and an orbital integration of the system shows that the system is stable.     Gerald R. Ford Oral History Project Pat Buchanan Interviewed by Richard Norton Smith October 4, 2010 Smith: Thanks so much for doing this. I appreciate it. Buchanan: I’m delighted. Smith: Let me ask you. First of all, what was the attitude in the Nixon White House toward the Republican Congressional leadership, and Ford in particular, during that first term? Buchanan: Well, for the first couple of years, Nixon had one of his speechwriters at all the cabinet meetings, congressional leadership and others, and I was in all the congressional leadership meetings. I think the attitude was very respectful, but I don’t think there was a sense that this was a very powerful, competent, and really able force that we had on Capitol Hill. Nixon was the first time since Zachary Taylor that we had a president with both Houses of the Congress in opposition to him and I don’t think that Nixon felt that these fellows were up to his level of the game. Smith: Would you distinguish at all, not necessarily in terms of competence, but in terms of loyalty, between a Jerry Ford and a Hugh Scott? Buchanan: I know what you’re going to say. Everybody in the White House distinguished between the two. Jerry Ford was a friend of Richard Nixon. Nixon liked him. I’d been out with Nixon for Jerry Ford in Michigan and Romney in Michigan, out there in 1996. Jerry Ford was a friend and a buddy of Nixon’s and I think they genuinely liked each other. I think Hugh Scott was looked upon as on the other side of the party.
