Welcome to Saint Barnabas Church

DURING OUR SESQUICENTENNIAL YEAR 1869 – 2019 Founded in 1869, Saint Barnabas is a Roman Catholic parish of the Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter. The Ordinariate was established in 2012 by Pope Benedict XVI in order to preserve elements of the Anglican tradition within the . The parish entered the Catholic Church in 2013. Mass is celebrated using Divine Worship, the Vatican-promulgated Missal also known as the Ordinariate or Anglican Use liturgy. All Catholics may fulfill their Mass obligation on Sundays and holydays at Saint Barnabas. Catholics in full communion with the Holy See of Rome may receive Holy Communion at our Masses. Confessions are heard beginning 25 minutes before Mass at the rear of the church.

 SAINT BLAISE BLESSING OF THROATS Today is the Feast of Saint Blaise, patron saint of ailments of the throat. Following both Sunday Masses, the traditional blessing of throats by the intercession of Saint Blaise will be offered.

 CONSTRUCTION UPDATE The addition was been completely framed and its windows installed. Initial work has begun on the elevator by a representative of the O’Keefe Elevator Company. The roof of the addition is nearly complete. Progress continues on the kitchen and the duct work for the heat and air conditioning system.

 KEYS TO CHURCH BUILDINGS Saint Barnabas has for a number of years used the Best lock system. In the coming weeks we will be expanding that system to cover all of the parish’s buildings. The church itself will be on the A series, the Templin Houses the B series, and the Parish House the C series. Those in need of access to one or more of the buildings are asked to contact Sean Reed at [email protected].

 SAINT BARNABAS SESQUICENTENNIAL 2019 We are celebrating the one hundred fiftieth anniversary of the founding of Saint Barnabas Parish in 1869. A series of events is being planned, beginning with observance of the Chair of Unity Octave, also known as the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (January 18-25). The culmination of these sesquicentennial events will be the Feast of Saint Barnabas, to be observed Sunday, June 16 with Solemn Pontifical Mass celebrated by our Ordinary, Bishop Steven J. Lopes.
