EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES ORGANIZED BY MUSEUM IN THE MONTH OF JULY, 2015

1. Inauguration of ‘Documentary Film Making Course’

One month long Documentary Film Making Course, was inaugurated on 1st July 2015 by the Ali Ahmed Fatmi, HoD, Department of Urdu, , Shri Mustaque Amir, Bureau Chief, ETV and Shri Rajesh Purohit, Director, Allahabad Museum. In the course 60 participants were selected after screening. The students of the workshop were divided in six groups and completed the documentary film on i. Yuva ii. Swachta (Cleanliness) iii. Hepatitis B iv. Ganges v. Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and vi. Women empowerment.

2. Valedictory of Art Appreciation Course (17 June-17 July 2015)

Museum has organized Art Appreciation Course from 17 June to 17 July 2015. On this occasion Padmashree Dr. Geeta Chandran, Dancer, Bharat Natyam was delivered valedictory lecture as well as demonstration of Shiv Natraj and Meera by Bharatnatyam dance. During the lecture she also interacted with audiences focused and explained on different styles of Indian Dance Art. On the occasion she has distributed certificates to the 101 participants of the Art Appreciation Course.

3. Celebration birth anniversary of martyr Chandrashekhar Azad

A programme was organized on freedom struggle martyr Chandrashekhar Azad on his 109th birth anniversary on 23rd July 2015. Director, Allahabad Museum threw lights on the contribution of Azad in Indian Freedom struggle. On this occasion Director, Allahabad Museum and other officials paid floral tributes to Azad. Guard of honour was given by security personnel in front of the statue. A documentary film ‘Azad’ was screened for visitors on the occasion.

4. Joint Collaboration programme with VICAS:-

65 Teachers and district coordinators from 11 districts of participated in the workshop in joint collaboration with VICAS on 24th July 2015. The theme of the event was ‘Understanding climate & weather’.

EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES ORGANIZED BY ALLAHABAD MUSEUM IN THE MONTH OF JUNE, 2015

1. Organization of Exhibition on ‘Coiffures in Indian Art’

An exhibition on ‘Coiffures in Indian Art’ depicts the ancient hairstyles in Ancient, Medieval and Modern Indian as has been seen in the images from the collection of Allahabad Museum was organized on 17th June, 2015.

2. Organization of colloquium on World Environment Day, 5 th June, 2015

Museum has organized a special function on its premises. Smt. Vandana Tripathi, Additional Commissioner, Allahabad Nagar Nigam was the chief guest on the occasion while Prof. HK Pandey, MNNIT was the guest on honour. On this occasion Shri SK Singh, Director, Voluntary Institute for Community Applied Sciences (VICAS) and 50 students from various schools attended the programme.

3. Celebration of ‘World Environment Day’

‘World Environment Day’ was celebrated on 5th June, 2015 by planting of saplings by School children. Smt. Vandana Tripathi, Additional Commissioner, Allahabad Nagar Nigam was the chief guest on the occasion threw light on the significance of clean and green environment and added that a clean surrounding would help groom children into better human being.

4. Organization of an outreach Exhibition on Nicholas Roerich

The exhibition on the paintings of Nicholas and Svetoslav Roerich was inaugurated on 27th June 2015 at the Salar Jung Museum in the presence of Dr. Ramesh, Principal Secretary to the Governor of Andhra \pradesh and Telegana. Also present were Shri Rajesh Purohit, Director, Allahabad Museum and Shri Nagendra Reddy, Director, Salar Jung Museum. A catalogue on the paintings of Roerich authored by Rajesh Purohit and Sunil Gupta was released on the occasion. This exhibition was part of the Vivekananda Museum |Excellence Programme attended by Dr. Sunil Gupta, Assistant Keeper, Allahabad Museum.

5. Organization of Exhibitions a) An exhibition and painting contest was also organized in joint collaboration with UP Pollution Control Board. An exhibition titled ‘Kudarat, Kayanat, Parakht by RK Tondon, Deptt. of Defense studies, Allahabad University. b) The Allahabad Museum contributed 8 paintings to the yoga exhibition at the Sangeet Natak Academy, New Delhi from June 21-27, 2015.

6. Valedictory of Summer Camp

Museum has organized summer camp from 17 May, 2015 to 17 June 2015 including Clay Modeling, Dancing and Synthesizer training workshop have been organized. In which 20 school children were participated in the workshop. Cultural activities and dance by the kids were also organized on the occasion. The workshop has been concluded on 17th June, 2015 and certificates were awarded to the participants of the workshop.

7. Inauguration of ‘Art Appreciation Course’: A month long course

‘Art Appreciation Course’ was inaugurated on 17th June 2015 jointly by Prof. NR Farooqui, Vice Chancellor and Prof. MM Das, Former Head of Deptt. of English, University of Allahabad. In this course a number of 101 students of Graduate, PG and Research scholars were admitted in course of one month long. The course aimed to train guides for the museum and also to let them learn the Art of Appreciation through art, iconography, schools of art, architecture, paintings and music.

8. Screening of Documentary film

A documentary film was screened for visitors and on 7th June, 2015 on ill effects of Polythene to preserve the Ganga Yamuna awareness was initiated through this documentary film among the public ‘say no to polythene’.

9. Celebration of International Yoga Day – 2015

On the occasion of ‘International Yoga Day–2015’, Allahabad Museum has organized a symposium on ‘Yog-Dashan’ and ‘Yoga Practice Activity’ in its premises. Shri Keshav Pasad Maurya, M.P. Phulpur region, Allahabad inaugurated the event and in his address, he appealed to take an oath on this day which must encapsulate welfare of whole world. During his speech he informed audience about the ongoing and upcoming initiations of central government in this region and pledge to extend his maximum efforts for all possible developments in Allahabad. In this discussion Shri. Ravi Raj Singh, Shri Akhilesh Mishra from Pragyanam Sanstha, Prof. Awdesh Agnihotri talked about theory of Higgs Boson and explained the Rupantar Yoga. Famous Neuro Surgeon, Dr. Prakash Khetan explained the increasing significant role of yoga in modern medical treatment. The event was started with the welcome speech of Shri. Rajesh Purohit, Director, Allahabad Museum. On this occasion youth yogi Shri. Ravi Verma and Shri. Anup demonstrated some of the relevant Yoga to audience and explained their practical effects.

EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES ORGANIZED BY ALLAHABAD MUSEUM IN THE MONTH OF MAY, 2015

1. Organization of Exhibition on occasion of Buddha Poornima

A single object exhibition has been organized jointly Buddha Commune International, Arail, Allahabad and Allahabad Museum on the occasion of ‘Buddha Poornima’ on 3rd May, 2015. The exhibition was inaugurated by Khemapema, Thailand and Mahakhero Bhante Devanandvardhana in the central hall.

2. Organisation of colloquium

A colloquium was also organized on 3rd May, 2015 on the occasion of ‘Buddha Poornima’ in the Pt. Brij Mohan Vyas auditorium. Director, Bauddha Commune International Mr. GS Shakya, Shri Rajesh Purohit, Director, Allahabad Museum other well known scholars were participated in the discussion. Shri Rajesh Purohit, Director, Allahabad Museum spoke about teachings of Buddha.

3. Organization of Exhibition on occasion of Mother’s Day

Two women officials of the Allahabad Museum Ms. Shweta Singh and Ms. Sonika Tiwari inaugurated the exhibition on the occasion of Mother’s Day, on 10th May, 2015 on the eve of mother’s day. The theme of the exhibition was “Mother Goddess. The exhibition represents the different moods and sentiments of a mother in different ages and period which included a total 22 illustrations of mothers in paintings along with original terracotta, drawings and symbols was displayed at the exhibition.

4. Organization of Exhibition on ‘Exhibition on Women in Indian Art’

An exhibition was organized on ‘Exhibition on Women in Indian Art’ on 17th May 2015. The exhibition included a 30 paintings was inaugurated by Ms. Pragnya Mehrotra a renowned Architect, of the Allahabad. The objective of the exhibition to showcase the aesthetics and beauty of the women depicted in Indian art forms be it Sculpture or Terracotta or Miniature painting or the Modern painting in variably since ages. This exhibition is exclusively for the youth of India. In this exhibition on ‘Women in Indian Art’ the Allahabad Museum has displayed some of the finest work from its modern and miniature painting collection.

5. Organisation of Outreach Programme at Varanasi

A five-day workshop on installation Art, an artistic genre of three-dimensional works that are often site- specific, began at Man Mandir observatory on the bank of Ganga adjacent to the famous Dashashwamedh Ghat on 11th May 2015. The workshop was organized jointly by the Allahabad Museum, Uttar Pradesh State Archaeology (UPSA) and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Around 20 students were participated in the workshop. The theme of the workshop was “Heritage”.

6. Organisation of Outreach Programme at Lucknow State Museum, Lucknow An outreach programme was organized as part of the Vivekanand Museum Excellence at Lucknow State Museum, Lucknow in which a key note address on Museum Exhibition and Management was delivered by Shri Rajesh Purohit, Director, Allahabad Museum and Dr. Sunil Gupta, Astt. Keeper Fellow at the Art Institute of Chicago delivered a presentation on the forthcoming exhibition to be mounted at Salar Jung Museum, Hyderabad on 20th June 2015.

7. Celebration of International Museum Day

International Museum Day was celebrated on 18th May, 2015 with an impressive attendance of school children and their parents on the Museum Campus. The function was inaugurated by Dr. Radheyshyam Agrawal, noted painter and Dr. Sangeeta. faculty of Education Dept. Of CMP Degree College as special guest by lighting up the traditional lamp. The theme of the International Museum Day of the current year is Museums for sustainable Society as decided by ICOM (International council for Museums).

8. Making History Visible

To Celebrate International Museum Day the Educational wing of the Allahabad Museum visited 24 schools and invited children to learn history from the museum objects. The children have made Power point presentation on the theme. 50 school children participated in International Museum Day and made their PPP on various episodes on the History.

9. Inauguration of Touch Screen KIOSK

A touch screen KIOSK, multimedia audio visual KIOSK incorporating thousands of objects, lectures, videos and other programmes were have been designed by the Allahabad Museum which was inaugurated on 14th May, 2015 by Shri Raghav Chadra, Financial Adviser to the Government of India, Ministry of Culture.

10. Celebration of Diversity Day

Diversity Day was celebrated on 21st May, 2015. On the occasion of Cultural Diversity Day a symposium was organized in the Pt. Brij Mohan Vyas Auditorium. Dr. Vimal Chandra Shukla, chief guest on the occasion has delivered a special lecture on ‘Cultural diversity in Indian Art’ on the subject he focused on Indian culture and its ‘Unity in Diversity’. Shri Rajesh Purohit, Director, Allahabad Museum has also focused on the concept of diversity in compasses acceptance and respect in connection of Diversity in Indian Culture.

11. Organisation of Summer Camp

EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES ORGANIZED BY ALLAHABAD MUSEUM IN THE MONTH OF APRIL, 2015

1. Organization of Exhibition on occasion of World Heritage Day

A photographic exhibition based on ‘Cultural Heritage Monuments of India and Allahabad’ was organized on 18th April, 2015 to mark the World Heritage Day. The exhibition was inaugurated by Shailendra Kapil, Chief Freight Traffic Manager, North Central Railway as Chief Guest. The purpose of organizing the exhibition was to motivate the people of the city to increase awareness about their rich cultural heritage.

2. Organisation of Colloquium on of World Heritage Day

A colloquium was organized on 18th April, 2015. Shri Rajesh Purohit, Director Allahabad Museum appealed to audience that all World Heritage should be maintained for the posterity of coming generation. Citing the heritage monuments of the above content he stressed that our city Prayag should be developed as a world Heritage City in the lines of the world heritage city of Edinburgh. Besides the biodiversity the sanctity of Ganga should also be preserved. Several art scholars had participated in the colloquium and shared their views with the audience on this occasion.

3. Celebration of World Earth Day

World Earth Day was jointly celebrated by Allahabad Museum, District Science Club and VICAS, Allahabad by the children of various schools wherein they displayed their creative skills by presenting models on different issues of science under the above programme on 22nd April, 2015.

4. National Seminar on Ram Charit Manas

A National Seminar on Ram Charit Manas was organized in collaboration with Bhasha Sangam on 26th April, 2015 at Vijyan Parishad Prayag Auditorium. The Seminar was inaugurated by Chief Guest Hon’ble Justice Shri AK Tripathi of . The Ram Charit Manas (7 Cantos) written by Tulsidas which was translated in Tamil by Dr. M. Govindrajan, Secretary-General, Bhasha Sangam, Allahabad and the same was released in the seminar. The programme was presided over by Hon’ble Justice Shri Ranvijay Singh and Hon’ble Justice Shri Pankaj Mittal, Allahabad High Court.

5. Call for Swachh Bharat

In the memory of 150th birth anniversary of in 2019 a mission of cleanliness of Museum and its premises was started as a symbol to realize the Gandhiji’s of clean India. Under the above mission the galleries, premises, and the surrounding of the Museum are being cleaned regularly to make the total entity of the Museum dust and dirt free.

6. Audience Augmentation Programme Cultural Documentary films were screened during the month under Audience Augmentation Programme which was attended by 100 participants from Universities, Degree Colleges, and other institutions.
