Retired for some 30 years from the U.S Geological Survey, From Lena Dee, at age 97, spends much of his leisure time painting alpine landscapes and pictorial landform maps, and prepar- ing sketches that appear in numerous climbers guidebooks and autobiographies. Born to Dutch immigrant parents in Los Angeles in 1918, Dee Molenaar spent his youth exploring the seashores, mountains, and deserts of Southern California. He extended his climbing horizons to the Pacific North- west where he spent several years as summit guide and park ranger at Mount Rainier. After climbing Rainier some 50 times via 15 routes, including three “firsts,” and traveling the park’s high country for many years, in 1971 he authored The Challenge of Rainier, the award-winning and continually updated definitive work on the peak’s climbing history. In 2011 the book was redesigned for a Special 40th Anni- Administrative Staff: versary Edition. During World War II Dee served as photographer in the U.S Coast Guard in the Aleutians Jennifer Dennis and Western Pacific. Three areas of focus that anyone can use to aid in securing their safety at home: Focus One: Reducing Internal Risks According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention one out of three people aged 65 or older experience a fall each year. Falls may happen due to external factors, but many falls may be prevented with focusing on identifying and preventing internal risks include visiting the doctor for checks on hearing and eyesight as well as regular exercise to promote balance and mobility. Focus two: Reducing External Risks Using preventative measures inside the home may also help secure home safety. Ways to reduce external risks such as trip hazards fire-safety issues or cuts include removing clutter and improving lighting. Focus Three: Protecting Against Others Finally, it is important t protect the financial security of our home by being diligent in pro- tecting your information and monitoring accounts.
