Pudimadaka : Brief Summary : Draft Pudimadaka Fishery Harbour Dist. Visakhapatnam Department of Fisheries Government of Andhra Pradesh The Fisheries Department, one of the important line agencies of Government of Andhra Pradesh accords top priority to fisheries development through interventions principally aimed at addressing the welfare of fishermen community and revenue generation for the State. The Department intends to establish and develop a Fishery Harbour in Pudimadaka village in Visakhapatman district which is a traditional fishing centre of the State. At present there are number of motorised and traditional boats operating from the open coast. A basin is proposed to be created for tranquillity and safe berthing of vessels apart from other harbour facilities. The Fisheries harbour will be developed with necessary infrastructure required for organized fishing in an environmentally responsible manner. This will help generate more employment opportunities and improve the quality of life of the local population. The project site geographically corresponds to latitude 17o 29’ 32” N, longitude 83o00’12”E and Is located at a distance of about 8 km from Achutapuram town under Achutapuram mandal of Visakhapatnam district. Visakhapatnam is about 45 km from the project site. The proposed project is categorized under 7(e)–‘B’, which attracts CRZ Notification of 2011 and EIA Notification of 2006 for which it is mandated for CRZ Clearance and also Environmental Clearance from SEIAA or any other extant Govt. Order/Policy relevant/ relating to the site thereof. The project is envisaged as a standalone coastal infrastructure. The total fish handling capacity of the proposed harbour is 28,700 TPA. The fishing harbour facilities have been designed to accommodate 930 vessels comprising 700 numbers of 9 metre long motorised boats, 200 trawlers of 18 metre OAL and 30 nos tuna long liners of 24 metre OAL. Construction of breakwater and harbour facilities have been proposed to be made in the inter- tidal area and on foreshore. There will be reclamation of about 2.45 lakh cu.m using dredge spoil. The Budgetary Estimation for establishing the proposed Pudimadaka Fishery Harbour is worked out to Rs.298.85 crore. .
