Homozygous animals of both sexes exhibited a tremor of the hind end which commenced at about 2 weeks of age and largely disappeared in animals older than 6 weeks. The severity of tremor varied between mice of the same age and a small proportion did not develop a phenotype at all. Seizures, infertility and premature death were not features of the mutation. There was hypomyelination affecting predominantly the spinal cord, although optic nerves and brain were involved to a much lesser degree.

  • SSAC Science Education Workshop Report.Pdf
Report of SSAC Science Education Workshop 14 December, University of Glasgow 1. Introductions Professor Jim Hough Professor Hough welcomed the delegates 1 to the University of Glasgow for the SSAC Science Education Workshop2, outlining some of the concerns and challenges that have been recognised in relation to delivering high quality, modern and relevant science education in schools. He stressed that the SSAC considered that there was a need for different sectors, especially universities and business, to work together to support and make life easier for those delivering high quality science education to Scotland's young people. Professor Anne Glover Professor Glover remarked that science, engineering and technology were not only essential for driving our economy - now and in the future - but were also significant parts of Scotland's heritage and culture. She reported that the Scottish results in the Trends in International Mathematics and 3 Science Survey (TIMMS ) report published in December 2008 had highlighted failings in maths and science in Scotland's schools "where Scotland was standing still while other nations pushed by and rose up the league tables". In response the then Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning had convened a School Science Summit4 on 5 May 2009 which focused on how science could be made more engaging for pupils and how the skills and confidence of teachers could be improved to make this a reality. Following the summit, the Scottish Government launched the Science & Engineering 21 - An Action Plan for 5 Education . The Action Plan paves the way for stimulating ambition in the teaching and learning of science, engineering and technology, encouraging more young people to consider a career in science and engineering and raising public understanding of science.

  • • 29Th CHME Annual Research Conference
Welcome to the summer Newsletter from CHME. This Newsletter covers the recently published CHME-funded report on the future of Hospitality Management Education and CHME work with partner organisations. In these unprecedented times, there is some good news……please read on! • 29th CHME Annual Research Conference The Annual CHME conference this year, Creating Hospitality Experiences, was unfortunately cancelled owing to COVID-19. It will be held (again at Sheffield Hallam) on 12 – 14th May 2021. All submissions are being considered (reviewed and feedback given) for the 2021 event. Further details at: https://www.chmeconf2020.co.uk/ The AGM did, however, take place virtually and the Minutes can be found in the CHME website. The only change to the Executive was the election of Dr Maria Gebbels from Greenwich University to the post of Honorary Treasurer. Maria will take over from Isabell, who is covering the role at the moment, in the autumn when a handover is possible. In addition, we would normally make awards at the Conference. Whilst the paper- related awards could not be made, we have awarded the The Share/StR Teaching and Learning Innovation Award. This was awarded to a team from Breda University of Applied Sciences, Academy of Hotel and Facility Management for their Bachelor Thesis (BT) learning community. Congratulations to Yoy Bergs, Sabrina Brugel and Licia Calvi! • The future of Hospitality Management Education in FE and HE CHME, in association with the Institute of Hospitality, commissioned a trends analysis and forecasting project that examines past and future data of Hospitality Management student numbers in Further and Higher Education.
