IR-PERPUSTAKAAN UNIVERSITAS AIRLANGGA CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background of The Study Motorcycle is one of the vehicles rapidly developed, which users are getting higher. The motorcycle’s history was beginning in the late 19th century. This kind of vehicle is the next step of the “safety bicycle” which is the bicycle that have the same size wheel. The first invented motorcycle is a very simple concept. At that time, the engineers have an idea to combine a motorized machine to the bicycle frame. After the century changed to the 20th century, the innovation in motorcycle manufacturing began to spring, start from the frame, engines, shape of the body and added the fuel tank and gearboxes to the engines. However, at that time, the shape of the motorcycle still similar to the bicycle complete with the pedal itself. After 1920 or during the World War 1, the shape of motorcycle started to evolve, no longer with a bicycle-like shape and innovation in the engine continues with the large engine capacity or the number of cylinders. With the increasing number of years, many motorcycle brands have begun to emerge starting from Europe (German, British, and Italy) and America then continued to Japan and innovations on the development of motorbikes continued until now (Hunt, et al. 2015). The sales number of motorcycles is absolutely fluctuating. Nevertheless, the trend of this vehicle is also increasing time by time. The motorcycle more famous after the first motorcycle race was held and all the racer that join in the championship was a man. -
Life Cycle Assessment on Electric Moped Scooter Sharing
sustainability Article Life Cycle Assessment on Electric Moped Scooter Sharing Nora Schelte 1,*, Semih Severengiz 1 , Jaron Schünemann 1, Sebastian Finke 1, Oskar Bauer 1 and Matthias Metzen 2 1 Laboratory for Sustainability in Technology, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, Bochum University of Applied Sciences, 44801 Bochum, Germany; [email protected] (S.S.); [email protected] (J.S.); sebastian.fi[email protected] (S.F.); [email protected] (O.B.) 2 e-bility GmbH, 53424 Remagen, Germany; [email protected] * Correspondence: [email protected]; Tel.: +49-234-32-10376 Abstract: Due to their small size and low energy demand, light electric vehicles (LEVs), such as electric moped scooters, are considered as a space efficient and eco-friendly alternative for mobility in cities. However, the growth of electric moped scooter sharing services raises the question of how environmentally friendly this business model is, considering the entire lifecycle. Due to the dynamic market and insufficient availability of public data on the business processes of sharing services only a few studies on the impact of shared electric mopeds are available. Especially there is a lack of research on the impacts of key operational logistic parameters of the sharing system. This paper aims to fill this gap by conducting a life cycle assessment using the example of an electric moped scooter manufactured and used in sharing services in Germany, based on different operating scenarios. The results show that e-moped sharing has a similar environmental impact on global warming potential, in terms of passenger kilometers, as public transport, especially if long product lifetimes as well as efficient operation logistics are realized. -

Improving Safety for Motorcycle, Scooter and Moped Riders Motorcycle, for Scootermoped and Improving Safety Improving Safety for Motorcycle, Scooter and Moped Riders
Improving SafetyImproving and forScooter Moped Motorcycle, Riders Improving Safety for Motorcycle, Scooter and Moped Riders The global fleet of powered two-wheelers (PTWs) is constantly increasing. In many countries, motorcycles, scooters and mopeds play a significant role in mobility, particularly in many of the world’s large cities. As such, PTWs are becoming an important component of the transport system. However, they represent an important challenge for road safety. PTW riders are at far more risk than car drivers per kilometre ridden in terms of fatalities and severe injuries entailing long-term disability. Moreover, they have not benefited from safety improvements at the same pace as car occupants over recent decades. Addressing the issue of PTW safety is thus an essential contribution to the success of the United Nations’ Decade of Action for Road Safety, which aims at halving the expected number of road deaths worldwide by 2020. This report reviews recent trends in powered two-wheeler crashes, the factors contributing to these crashes and their severity. It describes a set of countermeasures targeting user behaviours, the use of protective equipment, the vehicles and the infrastructure. Finally, it discusses motorcycle safety strategies in the context of a safe system. BIKE OF THE YEAR 2018 Thailand Bike of The Year 2018 is regarded as another big annual event organized by Grand Prix International Public Company in order to find out the best bike of the year, and aim to promote the Thailand automotive industry and provide the information for consumers across the country. This year marked the 10th time in a row. The organizer continued to upgrade the judging criteria to be suitable and go in line with the objectives of the event which was to grant the awards to the most worthy bikes. This year, the organizer invited the qualified committee in the automotive industry, the motorcycle media who have competence in riding from various magazines and online channels, and also the professional test riders to take part in the scoring process. Besides, to make the awards go in line with the current market and the demand of consumers, which change over times, the organizer and the committee agreed to categorize the awards into two groups, namely Small Bike (e.g., family bike, automatic bike, and mini bike), and Big Bike, which was continuing to grow in the market. As a consensus, the latest event was provided with valuable prizes for motorcycles of each category, divided by type, usage and displacement total 28 prizes, as follows; WWW.BIKEOFTHEYEARTHAILAND.COM JUDGING CRITERIA The organizer chose Pathum Thani Speedway, Pathum Thani, as a test-ride venue to seek for the motorcycles with the highest performance from six leading automakers that sent over 50 bikes to test.
