In 1902 a Renault Type K won its first victory in the Paris-to-Vienna road race, propelled by a four cylinder engine producing slightly more than 40 horsepower. It beat the more powerful Mercedes and Panhard racers because they broke down, proving very early on that to finish first, first you have to finish. In that same year Renault patented the turbocharger, something it had not forgotten in 1977 when it was the first manufacturer to race a turbocharged Formula One car. The RS01 was initially nicknamed the 'Yellow Teapot' by amused rival teams, but intensive development eventually saw it scoring fourth place in the 1978 US Grand Prix, and a pole position the following year. Within three years of the Yellow Teapot’s arrival most rival teams were also using turbochargers. Although today’s Renaultsport RS27-2013 engine is a normally aspirated V8, as required by the regulations, from 2014 it will be replaced by a highly advanced, downsized 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 featuring a pair of powerful energy recuperation systems that feed twin electric motors. These include an Energy Recovery System (ERS-K) that harvests Kinetic energy, and a second Energy Recovery System (ERS-H) that captures Heat. -

RENAULT ALPINE A110 1300 WITH THE CLEON ALU TS ENGINE 1973 Renault Alpine 1100 1300 2 owner with R8 gordini TS cléon Alu engine Launched in 1961 the A110, like previous road-going Alpines, used many Renault parts, including engines. While its predecessor the A108 was designed around Dauphine components, the A110 was updated to use R8 parts. Unlike the A108, which was available first as a cabriolet and only later as a coupé, the A110 was available first as a Berlinette and then as a cabriolet. The most obvious external difference with the A108 coupé was restyled rear bodywork. Done to accommodate the A110's larger engine, this change gave the car a more aggressive look. Like the A108, the A110 featured a steel backbone chassis and a fiberglass body. The A110 achieved most of its fame in the early 1970s as a successful rally car. After winning several rallies in France in the late 1960s with the cast-iron R8 Gordini Cléon-Fonte engines the car was fitted with the aluminium-block Cléon-Alu from the Renault 16 TS. This allowed the production to attain a top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph). A RENAULT ‘FAMILY’ Jean Rédélé was the first-born son of Madeleine Prieur and Emile Rédélé, a Renault dealer based in Dieppe and a former mechanic of Ferenc Szisz – the first Renault Frères ‘factory driver’, winner of the Grand Prix de la Sarthe in 1906 at Le Mans and runner-up in the Grand Prix de l'A.C.F. in Dieppe in 1907. Louis Renault himself had hired Emile Rédélé right at the beginning of the 20th Century. At the end of the First World War, at the request of Louis Renault, the young Emile Rédélé settled in Dieppe and opened a Renault dealership there in rue Thiers. Two years later, Jean-Emile- Amédée Rédélé was born on May 17, 1922. After completing his studies in Normandy, Jean Rédélé took his Baccalauréat exam during the Second World War and came into contact with people as diverse as Antoine Blondin, Gérard Philipe and Edmond de Rothschild. He chose to be a sub-prefect before settling on a career direction and enrolling at the H.E.C. -

Ahead of going on sale in the UK in early 2018, the compact and agile twoseater A110 will be seen in motion for the very first time in this country when it will take to the hill as part of the legendary Supercar Run. On display will be the very Alpine that won outright at the 1978 Le Mans 24 hour race, the triumphant Alpine A442 B. Running up the hill will be a member of Alpine’s victorious rallying heritage – the A310 – as part of the Touring Car, NASCAR, Drift & Rally group. The presence of these cars, both past and present, underlines Alpine’s fascinating and glorious history as well as providing an insight into the future of the marque with the new A110. 1978 Alpine A442 B This is the racecar that won Alpine outright victory in the 1978 Le Mans 24 Hours, with Jean Pierre Jaussaud and Didier Pironi. Its success was the culmination of five years of work, the A442 B evolving from the first normallyaspirated A440, the A441 and then the turbocharged 442. There were many wins in Sport World Championship events on the way, but plenty of heartache before Alpine’s ultimate goal was scored. -

A new body colour and a new choice of wheels heighten the vehicle’s elegant exterior styling. New comfort features and an updated R-LINK 2 multimedia system now compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto further enrich the travelling experience. The all-new Energy TCe 225 petrol engine mated to seven-speed EDC automatic transmission has been added to model’s powertrain catalogue. This new engine, which was developed in association with Renault Sport, delivers 225hp (165kW) and peak torque of 300Nm. Driving enjoyment is enhanced with even more responsive acceleration and pick-up than the Energy TCe 200 engine it is replacing. NEDC-cycle fuel consumption is still low at 6.8 litres/100km, which is equivalent to emissions of 152g of CO2/km (New European Driving Cycle). The new Energy TCe 225 EDC powertrain is can be specified for the Zen, Intens and Initiale Paris versions of the model. Espace MY2017 remains a benchmark for roadholding and driving enjoyment courtesy of features like the 4CONTROL chassis with electronic damper control and MULTI-SENSE customer personalisation. The name change of this entity dedicated to the development of Renault Group sports models forms part of the creation of the Alpine Business Unit. “As part of the reorganization of the Renault Group by brand, it is essential that the various entities that make up the Business Unit bear the Alpine name and embody the values and ambitions of the brand. Alpine aims to be a premium sports brand at the forefront of innovation and technology. FIA RALLY CAR PYR MID 2021 EDITION FOREWORD Dear Presidents, Dear Delegates, Approved by the World Motor Sport Council in June 2018, the new FIA Rally Car Pyramid has been designed to structure the market, to adapt our categories to the automobile industry changes and above all to respond to the demands of the competitors. Whether it concerns drivers or teams, new young talent or gentleman drivers, everyone can now find the product that best meets their needs. The implementation of this pyramid has consequences, such as the nomenclature of the groups between Rally1 and Rally5, or the arrival of the new Rally3 cars from 2021. During a period in which the challenges faced are more numerous than ever, we have resolved to pursue our path to continue to make motor sport more accessible and safer.
