Their altitude varies from 350 to 450 meters above sea level. Nature of the soil: Clay and limestone Training system: Spurred Cordon Density of plantation: 4000 vines/Ha Average age of the vines: 10 to 20 years old Yield per Hectare: 50 Hl/Ha Harvest: Handpicked, generally the last days of October / first days of November Vinification technique: 100% first run must – Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation carried out in stainless steel vats – 1 year of aging in 225 l barrels of french oak. Average yearly bottle production: 2000 bottles Bottle format: 75 cl and 150 c Alcohol level: Generally 13,5% Sensorial description The main feature of this wine is its finesse that doesn’t yield to the full body typical of the Taurasi. This wine has an intense ruby robe with a strong spice and liquorice impact to the nose, which later gives way to notes of prunes and black cherry. In the mouth an intense freshness combined with very fine tannins are a promise that they will preserve the wine during its long life. It has a very long aftertaste with a finale of black cherry and eucalyptus. The oak remains very discreet and contributes very elegantly to the natural flavour of the wine. Food combinations This wine is especially appropriate for game, venison and aged cheese, as well as dishes in sauce. In Irpinia, it is often drunk with roasted meats and wild porcini mushrooms as well as local salamis and hams. Serving temperature: 18°C to 20°C.

Radici Taurasi is Mastroberardino’s flagship wine. Although first released in 1928, the wine became known as Radici, which translates as “roots,” in 1986. This classic red is the result of painstaking research into Aglianico clonal selection, rootstocks, and site selection of this region’s unique volcanic terroir and topography. • Greco Di Tufo Fiano-Falanghina-Aglianico Campania Paoloboselli.Com - August 2016 TORRICINO
TORRICINO Greco di Tufo Fiano-Falanghina-Aglianico Campania paoloboselli.com - August 2016 TORRICINO The Torricino estate is located outside the township of Tufo in the Avellino province in Campania. The town- ship of Tufo is named for the tufaceous, volcanic soil that the town is built on and has given its name to the ap- pellation, Greco di Tufo. The property takes its title from an old medieval tower neighboring the eleven acre vineyard (4.5 ha). Torricino is owned by the Di Marzo family and grows and bottles Greco di Tufo (D.O.C.G.), Fiano di Avellino (D.O.C.G.), and Aglianico (I.G.T.). The Di Marzo family has been deeply involved in the economic and agricultural life of Tufo for nearly 150 years. In 2002 Stefano Di Marzo (born in 1977) completed his training in agronomy and oenology and decided to commit Torricino to a policy of rigorous selection to bring out all the character and personality of his Greco di Tufo. Stefano believes that it is the land that makes the difference. In Tufo, sulphur mines discovered in 1866 and owned by his ancestors have been the eco- nomic backbone of the town. Stefano, who inherited from his parents Vintantonio & Vincenzina an enormous love and passion for his land, inherited also a unique “terroir” where the mines of sulphur play an important role; in fact his Greco shows intriguing hints of sulphur perfumes. The Greco di Tufo grape was brought from Thessalonica in Greece (near modern day Macedonia) to Magna Grecia in Southern Italy by the Pelasgian people over two millennia ago and cultivated by the Romans in the centuries that followed.

  • A Tribute to the Professional History of Antonio Mastroberardino, the Archaeologist of Vine and Wine
taurasi DOCG 2015 A tribute to the professional history of Antonio Mastroberardino, the archaeologist of vine and wine Mastroberardino Winery and Vineyards «The Stilèma project testifies the love of Antonio Mastroberardino for his land, its vines and its wines, for their original characters.». (Piero Mastroberardino) A love that during the decades, while Antonio was collecting success worldwide, was turning into a pressing concern that those same characters could be diluted, gradually dispersed due to the action of man, the processes of selection of the most productive genetic material, which is often not the more suitable to guarantee the best organoleptic expressions of a species. Antonio, my father, stressed the concept of the relevance of a research program able to retrace the time backwards, to bring us back to pre-war Irpinia viticulture, to a period of less contamination and a deeper varietal characterization, a more territorial style of wines, distinctive of a territory less subject to the distorting effects of external agents. Mastroberardino spa - Via Manfredi 75/81 – 83042 – Atripalda (Av) – Italy – P.I. 00080500648 Tel +39 0825 614.111 Fax +39 0825 614.231 www.Mastroberardino.coM A project begun at the turn of the millennium, with a series of experimental hypotheses starting from selected clones in pre-phylloxera vineyards and leading to a rediscovery of working protocols, both in the vineyard and in the winery, related to the time in which Irpinia wines affirmed themselves as the pick of the iceberg of a process of renaissance and revitalization of viticulture in our Country. Aglianico, Mastroberardino Estates That program, over the last few years, has placed on a single mind map a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening the link between our vines and wines with their territorial origins.

  • Andar Per Taurasi 2013

  • Southern Italy Molise Campania
Southern Italy Molise The small, mountainous region of Molise to the south of Abruzzo produces small amounts of wine. Most produced by co-operatives, and less than 5% of the region’s production is at the DOC level. Only three DOCs exist in Molise: Biferno, Molise and Pentro di Isernia. Biferno DOC is the most important, producing reds and rosatos from a blend of Montepulciano and Aglianico. White wines are based on Trebbiano. Campania Less than 10% of the region’s wines are at DOC level In the coastal Massico region in northern Campania the Falerno del Massico DOC. are located. Soils are volcanic tufa. On the lower mountain slopes, red wines are produced Aglianico and Piedrosso and the white Falanghina, Greco, and Fiano comprise a majority of the Campanian DOC wines. The tannic, high-acid Aglianico shares a structural similarity with Sangiovese and Nebbiolo although it has more black fruit characteristics. And has the potential to produce the longest-lived red wines of Southern Italy. Often blended with the lighter Piedrosso in the blends of Falerno del Massico DOC, Taurasi DOCG The wines are produced in the inland area near Avellino. Produced from Aglianico (minimum 85%) Taurasi wines must be aged a minimum of 3 years prior to release, with 1 year in wood. The aging requirement increases to 4 years in wood for riserva wines Aglianico del Taburno DOCG. Produced near the city of Benevento Requires a minimum of 85% Aglianico varietal. Aged 2years in oak (3 yrs for riserva) Fiano di Avellino DOCG wines are produced in a number of communes west of the Taurasi zone, from a minimum 85% of the Fiano grape with the remaining 15% being made up from Coda di Volpe & Trebbiano Greco di Tufo DOCG North of the Fiano di Avellino district at higher altitudes Greco,is a light but intensely aromatic grape and the wine comprises a minimum 85% of the varietal The acidic Coda di Volpe comprises the remainder.
