In 2006/2007 Enfield College recruited more than 6,500 students, 26% of which were full-time students (defined as 450+ guided learning hours studied in 2006/2007). The student population reflects the cultural and ethnic diversity of north London, with a significant proportion of students coming from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds (43%); this includes a considerable number of students from Turkish and Cypriot ethnic backgrounds, as well as from African heritage. Retention of students, their achievements and overall success rates have improved on a year by year basis. 2006/2007 was no exception. sExceptional success rates in Sport, Travel and Tourism up to Anissa Larouci passed her BTEC National 35% above national averages. Diploma in Media (Moving Image) course in sVery high achievements in Early Years, Health and Social June 2007, achieving a fantastic triple Merit grade. She has gone on to further her studies at Care, building on the success of the College’s Centre of Thames Valley University. Vocational Excellence (CoVE) in Early Years. s100% achievement of students on the BTEC First Diploma in Art and Design and A2 Media Studies. sSuccess rates in Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy up to 13% above national averages. Deniz Cam successfully completed his Introductory Diploma in Travel and Tourism sSignificant progression of students from Entry Level up to course in June 2007. Tracie Hanberger passed her CACHE Diploma in Child Care and Education course in June 2007 with Louise Georgiou completed her NVQ Level 2 Distinction grades. She is now working full-time at Hairdressing course in June 2007 and she is a local nursery. now working part-time for a local hair salon. 5 www.enfield.ac.uk Enfield College Review of the Year Directorate of Foundation and Progression Studies Bernadette McAnespie, Director of Curriculum The Directorate of Foundation and Progression Studies was established in the academic year 2006/2007 and comprised Michael Milan completed his A Level the Divisions of: ESOL, Basic Skills, SLDD, Science, Maths, programme in June 2007, achieving two B grades for Physics and Chemistry, and an A English and Humanities, and Lifelong Learning. grade in Mathematics.
