A sustaining member is one who pays the Jikoen membership dues. Our temple’s main sources of income each year are: sustaining membership dues, fundraisers, and donations to our General Fund. It pays our operating expenses and is vital to the fi nancial health of Jikoen Hongwanji. Dues are also sent to Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii for various statewide outreach programs and annual operation. If you are not a member, please consider becoming one. Tents will be put up, daikon will be cut for the takuwan, andagi ingredients will be measured, bags will be prepared for the chickens, brown bags will be readied for the deep fried andagi and more. At 5 a.m. on Saturday, andagi workers will start, soon after the rice for sushi will start. Sunday, April 7, 2019 – 4:00pm By 6:30 ladies will be making inari sushi. Then the hot Pearl City Cultural Center BBQ chickens will come and soon bagging begins. The aroma of BBQ chicken will fill the air. From then to the end, it’ll be Go-go-go! 8 Jikoen Newsletter - March, 2019 Family Promise: March 17 – 24 at Hongwanji Mission School Your kokua is needed for Family Promise of Hawaii! Please make a difference in the lives of families who have fallen onto hard times. All four temples of the Honolulu district have banded together to participate in this program to help homeless families by providing overnight lodging for one week and meals (breakfast and dinner) for four to fi ve families (up to 16 persons). Families will be hosted at Hongwanji Mission School March 17 – 24, 2019. These families will be using HMS from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. daily. Each morning, the families will go to work, school or the Family Promise Day Center where they meet with staff, care for young children, learn life skills and seek housing and employment. Jikoen will be responsible for Sunday 3/17 Dinner & Sleepover; Monday 3/18 Breakfast & Dinner and Sleepover; and Tuesday 3/19 Breakfast. Other temples will be covering the remaining dates and times. Please see the form below for ways YOU can help in this all-important community-service project. Apr 5). • April 6 (Sat.): ~ to prep and cook andagi from 5:00 a.m. ~ to facilitate parking and security, to sell and pack the items. ~ to help clean up aft er the event from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. (breakdown tents and reset social hall) • Snacks, drinks and lunch will be provided on Friday and Saturday for all volunteers.
