Animals In Wales

Horse Horses can sleep both lying down and standing up.  Horses can run shortly after birth.  Domestic horses have a lifespan of around 25 years. I love horses because they are so gentle and help blind people.

Dogs  Their sense of smell is at least 40x better than ours. ...  Some have such good noses they can sniff out medical problems. ...  Dogs can sniff at the same time as breathing.

I love animals because they are kind and gentle and look so cute.

Exclusive Swansea City Q&A

I recently wrote to Swansea City Manager Steve Cooper, for an exclusive email interview and chat around Swansea City FC’s Play-off push, and some interesting facts about the players.

Q. After a successful season, what was the reaction to qualifying for the play-offs? Everyone at the club has worked very hard this season in what has been a really difficult and challenging schedule with regards to fixtures. We seem to have played every three or four days, and the attitude and commitment of the players and staff has been key to that. We’ve not got the biggest squad in the division, so it was a big ask of my players to consistently deliver good results when they’re coming up against teams with much bigger squads. But we did that really well, and we were very happy to have made the play-offs and make our fans feel proud. Q. What goals does the club want to achieve for next season? At Swansea City, we focus very much on what is in front of us. So the focus for now is our game against Barnsley, and we’re putting everything into that in order to produce a result that will hopefully be enough to send us into the play-off final. But, overall, a big part of what we do is making the fans feel proud. Ever since the first day I arrived here as head coach, I sensed a special feeling between the fans, the club and the community. Everyone in the city is a Swans fan and wants the club to do well. So we have a big commitment to doing our best every single day, in every training session and game, to ensure that Swansea City supporters walk around in their Swans shirts feeling proud of the team they support. Q. Who are the fastest players in the team? Who is the king of the gym?

7

Jamal Lowe is pretty fast – I don’t think anyone is beating him in a foot race. Jamal is pretty strong too, but the king of the gym is . We have a really good squad in terms of professionalism and attitude towards gym work, but if you really need me to pick someone, then Freddie just about pips everyone else. Q. Who is the funniest squad member or who plays the practical jokes? We have a few comedians in the squad. Ryan Bennett is really funny – he’s always making the lads laugh around the training ground. But the king of comedy is . He is always cracking a joke and putting smiles on his team-mates’ faces. You need characters like that within a squad. It’s important that everyone is enjoying themselves and get on with each other. But all the lads know when it’s time to have a laugh and when they have to be focussed and work hard.

Wally the Walrus Breaking news! People have been spotting a walrus in Ireland and now Tenby. The walruses name is Wally he enjoys chilling on Tenby Harbour and eats fish all day. Wally is meant to be in the artic, so how did he end up in Wales?

Here are a few fun facts.

 Walruses can weigh 1.5 tones!  Walruses swim at an average speed to 4.35 mph  Walruses can live to 40 years of age in the wild.  Wally is an Atlantic walrus you can also get a walrus that is from the pacific. I love Walruses they look so big, cuddly and warm (probably because of the amount of food they eat). I am so fascinated by these amazing water creatures. Walruses have so much blubber on them (usually to keep them warm in the artic). Fans have been flocking around Wally, as he is the latest craze.

9

Unfortunately, some silly people have been shouting and throwing things at Wally.

Wally has been causing trouble. He has dumped himself down on the lifeguard ramp and when the RNLI needed to launch their lifeboat out on the water, they had to use an air horn to move Wally. Wally also likes eating clams that are stuck to huge rocks. He uses his big tusks to peal the clams of the rocks. Wally probably is going to be getting back to the Artic soon because walruses are used to freezing cold water. I have not seen Wally in person yet because he has moved to Cornwall! By Ella Drew

The Great Beach Clean-Up!

Recently my football team (Waunarlwydd Galaxy) arranged to help with a litter pick at Swansea beach. I volunteered to pick up the mess and rubbish left behind by the litterbugs. I was angry and surprised to see how messy the beach was.

I have seen more litter in Swansea than usual over the last few months. I have seen litter on Beaches, parks, sports fields and even on walking paths. Some of the things I collected that were buried in the sand was shocking. I picked up lots of nails and broken glass which is dangerous for animals and people that use the beach. If this plastic and junk got into the ocean it could hurt sea life and the eco system.

11

A local MP (Geraint Davies) came to help with the litter pick, and he saw the amount of rubbish all over this once beautiful beach. He was very thankful for what our incredible team did. Geraint Davies on Twitter: "Great beach clean up work today with fantastic volunteers lead by Natasha Jenkins with @waungalaxyjnrs helping to get the job done and @SwanseaCouncil officers  https://t.co/NWMLLkfIcu" / Twitter

Swansea v Barnsley Play Off Match Report

Liberty Stadium, 22/5/2021, 6:30pm

The big battle between Swansea City and Barnsley took place at the liberty stadium on Saturday afternoon. 3,000 fans were able to watch the match for the first time this season. The game was tough it was full of twists and turns, Mat Grimes pretended to shoot, rolled it and then gave an incredible strike and the ball was thumped into the top bins to give Swansea the lead! Later, in the first half the fans went crazy as Andre Ayew nearly scored a second goal for the swans. In the second half Barnsley broke down the wing and crossed it into Woodrow who scored a cracker, this brought the game level 1-1. The thrilling game got nervous towards the end as Barnsley were looking for the winner. Swans defence managed to hold out for a famous win. Swansea will now be playing in the final against a very talented Brentford side at . The winner will be going up to the and will play against the top sides in the world, like Liverpool and Manchester City.

13

Unfortunately, probably will not be playing in the final as he has picked up a bad looking leg injury. This is what manager Steve Cooper had to say after the game. "As soon as I get home the laptop will be on and I'll be looking at the opposition," said the Swansea boss. "Of course, I'm proud. You've seen the journey of this football club, not just the two years I've been here. It's a unique one and this is another chapter. "But it's not finished, we've got another one next week. It was a privilege to be in the stadium tonight, with fans being here and getting to Wembley. "It'll be a night to remember but I also know my biggest emotion is getting ready for next Saturday."

Next Saturday Swansea city could take a huge leap in the club's history.

Ladies Cricket Taster

Do you like cricket? Then join Gowerton Women’s or Junior Cricket team. I love cricket and play for Gowerton girl’s cricket team. I enjoy cricket because there is not just one position there are three: Batting, bowling, and fielding my favourite. You should join the women’s cricket team; it is great fun, and you get to learn new techniques learning how to play cricket. Even if you have no idea how to play, our top coaches will help you. Their names are Sue, Rachel, Rosie. There is even a little shop where you can have drinks, chocolate, and sweets.

The place where we practice is Gowerton cricket club. There are 25 ladies who took part in the first lady's cricket taster day on the 27th of May. It is softball cricket and will be a lot of fun. When you practice there will be six drills: catching, fielding, and batting skills that you can practice from the link below. https://cricketwales.org.uk/news/virtual-cricket-skills-competition-2020 At the end of training, there was a small game of batting pairs (this was a great way to communicate with different people). My mum and Claire Tucker from Penclawdd took part and scored 16 runs from 2 overs, with Claire bashing the ball past the boundary for a huge six! Stephanie Drew said “It was really good fun, I enjoyed learning some new skills but I still don’t know many of the rules. Looking forward to the next session”.

15

There is an upcoming tournament for the women's cricket team at Ynystawe Cricket Club in the summer, so the women are practicing on Wednesdays afternoon. Any ladies (mum’s, sisters, friends) who would like to take part, please contact us and we will let you know how to join.
