Native American Research Resources in Archives And Special Collections

This bibliography includes manuscript collections and books on Native Americans. The bibliography is divided into two sections: the first are materials on Miami and Delaware in Indiana, especially in Delaware County and east central Indiana; the second section consists of materials on Native Americans in general. The first section is subdivided into the following categories: manuscript collections in the Stoeckel Archives of Local materials; theses and dissertations; and monographs in the rare books area. Collection numbers (MSS or SC) or Library of Congress call numbers are given for each item. The size of each manuscript collection is also included.

All the materials are located in Archives and Special Collections, Bracken Library 210, and do not circulate. While all publications are on the Library’s CardCat, as well as about 80% of the manuscript collections, not all materials in Archives and Special Collections can be found using CardCat. For example, new manuscript collections arrive in the Archives on a regular basis. See Archives and Special Collections staff for assistance in locating materials.

There are many other published words on Native Americans in the Library’s general collection. In addition, there are materials in Educational Resources, the Map Collections, and other parts of the Library for research on this topic. These materials can be located through CardCat or by consulting the staff in those areas.
