IVREA HOTELS & PREFERENCE Silver Member FACTSHEET HOTEL SIRIO – IVREA HOTELS & PREFERENCE Silver Member ___________________________________________________________________________ Ivrea - the heritage of ancestral Italy Already a very important community in Roman times when it was called Eporedia, Ivrea is today a city rich in history. Churches, castles and palaces offer visitors the chance to enjoy again and again the cultural heritage of a city that is the showplace of the region. The appeal and charm of the city of Ivrea is symbolised by the architectural duality where museums and their medieval collections combine with contemporary structures endowed with new technologies. Situated on the Swiss and French borders, the city is surrounded by natural beauty. A surprising destination for lovers of culture, sports, gastronomy and shopping. A mythic Hotel This renowned establishment experienced a golden age during the Olivetti saga. A family hotel, it strived to make a cultural mark as well. There were magnificent art exhibitions open to the public within the very heart of this immense residence. Thanks to the hotel, the whole region enjoyed the spotlight. Purchased on May 25th 2007 by the De Corte family, the hotel opened a new chapter of its history, endowing itself with all the necessary amenities to be able to satisfy a demanding, international clientele. The establishment has undergone two years of complete renovation, and it has been able to adapt itself to the evolution of today’s tourism by continuing to promote the discovery of its history and the cultural wealth of the nearby area. A new history - signed Valérie & Sabine De Corte Valérie De Corte has been Director and Owner of the Hotel Sirio Ivrea for two years. She and her sister Sabine De Corte- Garda wanted to enhance the value of the hotel within the region and attract an international clientele while at the same time maintaining an authentic and convivial welcome. A quality of service that is beyond reproach and a multilingual personnel defy stereotypical notions of the Italian hospitality industry. For Valérie De Corte, with her training most notably at the Ecole Hôtelière of Lausanne and Cornell University, it is a point of honour to surround herself with collaborators who share her level of passion for the hotel industry and the world of fine dining. In less than two years the establishment has recaptured and even surpassed its glorious reputation. Why choose this region? To captivate a new leisure and business clientele, this luxurious 3-star hotel has outfitted itself with various services, like a very fine library offering novels in several languages, wireless broadband Internet, wellness corner where guests can enjoy exclusive massages, fitness trail FACTSHEET and bicycles at your disposal. All of these services have therefore accompanied the complete renovation of the 46 rooms and suites. The original façade, typical of the 1960s, was meticulously conserved. For Valérie De Corte, the hotel’s family tradition is a point of honour, and she takes particular care to ensure that the welcome her guests enjoy is as warm as it Design - Zen and natural Refined ambiance, raw wood, rounded forms, natural colours… Guests can let themselves be delicately taken far away from the turmoil of urban living. The desired result? To feel calm, as if you were on an island of total tranquility. Both inside and outside, everything is conceived to impart this serenity to guests: high ceilings in common areas with walls boasting fresh colours, like gold and bronze, aromatherapy and an English garden. The entire effect is heightened by the amazing view of Lake Sirio. This charming hotel is the perfect spot to restore your vitality and forget your cares. The hotel’s guests may take advantage of a brand new wellness space that offers a range of exclusive massage services (by reservation only). Rooms and suites - cocoons of pleasure Charm and pleasure best describe the 39 rooms and 4 suites. Wood predominates, in pastel tones of beige and blue, harmonising with the deep green of nature and the varying hues of the lake. With its panoramic views of the lake, the Serra Morenica and the medieval town of Andrate, the hotel offers its guests a truly special change of scenery. Gianotti <[email protected]> ABSTRACT: The Ivrea Morainic Amphitheatre (IMA) is the main evidence of Quaternary glaciations in the Dora Baltea basin (NW Italy). This end moraine system forms a 500 km2 wide complex of lateral and terminal moraines and kame terraces, dated from the end of the Early Pleistocene (on palaeomagnetic basis) to the end of the Late Pleistocene (14C radiometric and 10Be exposure ages). A synthesis of the state of the art on the IMA stratigraphy is presented, based on the previous literature and reinterpreted in the light of new surveys and dating. Some embedded palaeosols and palustrine deposits within the glacigenic sequences, interpretable the first as interglacial layers and the latter as interglacial or interstadial layers, crop out along stream incisions cutting the IMA outer and inner edges or were sampled through boreholes (Alice Superiore and Torre Canavese cores). The top of the deposits shows different degrees of weathering and they can be distinguished into three pedogroups based on the hue index color of the soil horizons.

Cuadernos de Investigación Geográfica 2001 Nº 27 pp. 147-162 ISSN 0211-6820 © Universidad de La Rioja ANALYSIS OF THE SEVERE FLOOD OF 13-16TH OCTOBER 2000 IN PIEDMONT (ITALY) C. CASSARDO (2) R. CREMONINI (1) D. GANDINI (1) G. PAESANO (1) R. PELOSINI (1) M.W. QIAN (2) (1) Regional Meteorological Service of Piedmont, Piedmont Region, Turin, Italy. (2) Department of General Physics, Turin University, Italy. AB S T R A C T : During the 13th-16th of October 2000 a disastrous flood oc c u r red in the whole Piedmont associated with heavy rainfall over the No rt h - W estern Alpine chain in successive episodes spanning the whole period. The event was originated by a Southern, strong and moist, upper flow established over North - W estern Italy, associated at lower layers with an eastern rotation of the air flow and consequently strong convergence on the western Po Val l e y . The high temperature of the Mediterranean Sea cau - sed a high rate of moisture enrichment of the air mass moving towards Piedmont. The most intense rainfall (values larger than 600 mm in 96 hours have been rep o r ted) occurred over the mountainous regions, where the high te m p e r a t u r es forced the snow-rain threshold at very high altitudes. This event was one of the most intense events of the last 200 years in the Piedmont area. The majority of the basins suffered strong flood episodes; most of the mountainous portion of the basins and also part of the city of Turin down the Po Valley were seriously damaged by the strong rainfalls.
