Beautiful as some of the crystal-clear nights were, I used the fact that often the stars appeared to be twinkling wildly to convince myself that seeing would be poor and therefore I needn't feel obliged to stand for hours with snow half-way up my calves and in temperatures of many degrees below freezing. And so I studied last month's lunar eclipse from the relative warmth of a downstairs room with a clear north-west view, knowing that the aforesaid hardy observers would be bound to come up trumps – and so it proved. Take a bow, Keith Johnson and John McCue, whose photographic output appears in this issue. This month there is of course another eclipse, this time a partial solar eclipse visible at sunrise on 4 January. -

FRANKFURT PLEIADES STAR MAP 2 In investigating the Martian connection of the Pleiadian pattern of Frankfurt, one cannot avoid to address the origins at least in the propagation of this motif in the modern era and in all the financial powerhouses of today’s World Financial Oder. They were of Jewish extract but adhere more toward the Kabbalistic, Zohar, and ancient Babylonian secret mystery religion initiated by Nimrod after the Flood of Noah. Spectral classification of PMS Ae/Fe stars, based on visual observations, may lead to ambiguous conclusions. Aims. We aim to reduce these ambiguities by using UV spectra for the classification of these stars, because the rise of the continuum in the UV is highly sensitive to the stellar spectral type of A/F-type stars. Methods. We analyse the low-resolution UV spectra in terms of a 3-component model, that consists of spectra of a central star, of an optically-thick accretion disc, and of a boundary-layer between the disc and star. The disc-component was calculated as a juxtaposition of Planck spectra, while the 2 other components were simulated by the low-resolution UV spectra of well-classified standard stars (taken from the IUE spectral atlases). The hot boundary-layer shows strong similarities to the spectra of late-B type supergiants (see Appendix A). Results. We modeled the low-resolution UV spectra of 37 PMS Ae/Fe stars. Each spectral match provides 8 model parameters: spectral type and luminosity-class of photosphere and boundary-layer, temperature and width of the boundary-layer, disc-inclination and circumstellar extinction. -

Urton‟s research findings allow us to visualize the information in the pairing quadrants, which are determined by the distribution of S- and Z-knots, to provide overall information that is helpful for identifying the celestial coordinates of the brightest stars in the Pleiades cluster. In the present study, the linear regression attempts to model the relationship between two variables (which are determined by the distribution of the S- and Z-knots). The scatter plot illustrates the results of our simple linear regression: suggesting a map of the Pleiades represented by seven points on the Cartesian coordinate plane. Utilizando dicho hallazgo de Urton, podemos visualizar la información contenida en los pares de cuadrantes, la cual está determinada por una distribución de nudos con orientaciones opuestas de „S‟ y de „Z‟, brindándonos, así, toda la información necesaria para identificar las coordenadas celestes de las estrellas más brillantes del cúmulo de las Pléyades. En el presente estudio se usa el análisis de la Regresión Lineal con el fin de construir un modelo que permita predecir el comportamiento de la variable dependiente y (valores de los nudos con orientación de „Z‟) en función de la variable independiente x (valores de los nudos con orientación de „S‟). -

On leaving the planetarium, turn around and look northwards over the roof of the building. To your right is a group of stars like the outline of a saucepan standing up on it’s handle. This is the Plough (also called the Big Dipper) and is part of the constellation Ursa Major, the Great Bear. The top two stars are called the Pointers. Check with binoculars. Not all stars are white. The colour shows that Dubhe is cooler than Merak in the same way that red-hot is cooler than white-hot. 2. Use the Pointers to guide you to the left, to the next bright star. This is Polaris, the Pole (or North) Star. Note that it is not the brightest star in the sky, a common misconception. Below and to the right are two prominent but fainter stars. These are Kochab and Pherkad, the Guardians of the Pole. Look carefully and you will notice that Kochab is slightly orange when compared to Polaris. They are neither brown dwarfs nor planets. In this paper, their nomenclature, history of discovery, sites of detection, formation mechanisms, and future directions of research are reviewed. Most free-floating, non-deuterium-burning, substellar objects share the same formation mechanism as low-mass stars and brown dwarfs, but there are still a few caveats, such as the value of the opacity mass limit, the minimum mass at which an isolated body can form via turbulent fragmentation from a cloud. The least massive free-floating substellar objects found to date have masses of about 0.004 Msol, but current and future surveys should aim at breaking this record.
