Dietetics 5 ABOUT BalNeSO The Balkan Network for the Study of Obesity (BalNeSO) is a non-governmental, non-profit scientific association founded in 2005, in Athens, by the representatives of seven national associations for obesity from Bulgaria, Greece, Israel, Romania, Serbia, Turkey and Cyprus The initiative for the formation of such a Network had been taken by the Hellenic Medical Association for Obesity in 2002 and, in 2005, the expansion of the Network and the enlargement of its goals and perspectives were decided The aims of BalNeSO are: To encourage and support activities related to research on the prevention and treatment of obesity To facilitate communication between members of the Balkan countries on related issues To organise the Balkan Congress on Obesity To promote the study of obesity in the interbalkan field through the scientific cooperation of scientific associations, institutions, universities and other bodies To promote research and teaching in all levels of education in the area of obesity To promote the establishment of related Institutes and Research Scientific Centres To contribute to the general scientific knowledge, education and progress in the area of obesity of the member Balkan countries To promote peace and friendship among the people of the Balkan countries Up to now, BalNeSO have organised two congresses: the 1st Balkan Congress on Obesity (BCO) was held in Athens, Greece in 2003, in collaboration with the Hellenic Medical Association for Obesity and the 2nd BCO was held in Albena, Bulgaria, in May 2006, in collaboration with the Bulgarian Association for the Study of Obesity The Administrative Committee of the Balkan Network for the Study of Obesity for the triennium 2006-2008 stand as follows: President: Ioannis Kaklamanos, MD - Greece Secretary: Volkan Yumuk, MD - Turkey Treasurers: Efthymios Kapantais, MD - Greece Svetoslav Handjiev, MD - Bulgaria 6 THESSALONIKI-GREECE ABOUT HMAO The Hellenic Medical Association for Obesity (HMAO) is a non-governmental scientific association, operating on a non-profit basis in Athens, Greece Founded in 1990, it ranks up to 1 070 active members from various areas of professional expertise, such as physicians, dietitians and other health professionals HMAO is a member of the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) and of the International Association for the Study of Obesity (IASO), as well as one of the founding members of the Balkan Network for the Study of Obesity (BalNeSO) According to its Memorandum, HMAO aims to promote “the scientific research and study of obesity and the metabolic diseases in Greece” as well as “the scientific research in the field of healthy nutrition of the contemporary individual” During the last eighteen years, HMAO has organised numerous scientific and non-scientific events, which were crowned with great scientific and organisational success The most important events are listed below: Seven Pan-Hellenic Medical Congresses on Obesity organised every other year Five Scientific two-day Symposia organised every other year Four Scientific one-day Symposia in major cities of the Greek province with broad participation, organised during autumn 2003 Aiming to provide knowledge on all basic issues regarding physical examination, assessment, management (diet-drugs-physical activity) and monitoring of obese and overweight patients, HMAO organises yearly a series of educating workshops Up to now four Educational Workshops on Obesity have been organised: 1st Educational Workshop on Obesity titled “Assessment and Management of Obese Patients” (2004) 2nd Educational Workshop on Obesity titled “Assessment and Management of Obese Patients” – A SCOPE course accredited by EASO (2005) 3rd Educational Workshop on Obesity titled “Obesity: contributing factors and multifactorial management” – A SCOPE course accredited by EASO (2006) 4th Educational Workshop on Obesity titled “The pathogenesis, diagnosis and current and future treatment options of obesity and its complications” – A SCOPE course accredited by IASO (2007) Further to HMAO’s activities nationwide, a strong presence has been accomplished in Europe and in the Balkan Peninsula through the organisation of several events: The 14th European Congress on Obesity (ECO 2005) took place in Athens, Greece, on 1-4 June 2005, at the International Conference Centre of Megaron – the Athens Concert Hall and it has been crowned with great success The 17th Annual Meeting of the European Childhood Obesity Group (ECOG) was held in Athens, Greece, on 5-7 July, 2007 Τhe 3rd Balkan Congress on Obesity takes place in Thessaloniki, Greece, on 17-19 October, 2008 The Hellenic Medical Association for Obesity has carried out the “First National Epidemiological Large-scale Survey on the Prevalence of Obesity in the Greek Population” based on a nationwide population sample of 35 386 individuals (17 341 adults and 18 045 children and adolescents) The results and the conclusions of the survey were announced during the 13th European Congress on Obesity (Prague 26-29/5/2004) and the 14th European Congress on Obesity (Athens 1-4/6/2005) The full paper concerning the adults’ results of the survey has been published in the “Annals of Nutrition & Metabolism”, while the full paper on the adolescents’ results of the This disease cause always important health challenges for the human communities. It is common in many parts of the globe. This research was designed to determine the epidemiology of CL in East of Ahvaz County during 2003- 2013. Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study. The disease was diagnosed based on clinical examination and microscopic observation of the parasite in the ulcer site. The patient's Information such as age, gender, number and sites of ulcer (s) on the body, month and residence area were recorded. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software. Results: Totally, 2287 cases were detected during 2003 – 2013. About 53.4% patients were male and 46.4% female. The highest frequency infected age groups were observed in 10-19 years old (n=550 ,24%). Nearly 37 % of the patients had one and 38.1% had three ulcers.

    7 VOL. 2, NO. 2, DECEMBER 2017: 7-27 A STUDY OF AN UNKNOWN PRIMARY DOCUMENT ON THE FALL OF ABBASID BAGHDAD TO THE MONGOLS (WRITTEN BY THE DEFEATED SIDE) By ALI BAHRANI POUR* The present study aims to do a documental study of the Mongol invasion and the fall of Baghdad (the capital of the Abbasid Caliphate) in 1258 CE. It is a case study on a document and two comments on it, which were originally recovered from the burial shroud of a person killed during Hülegü’s conquest of Baghdad. This docu- ment was later inserted by someone (possibly by one of its two commentators) in a section of a primary manuscript of Kitab al-Wara’a (written in 1147 CE). Then Os̤ man ibn Ġānim al-Hiti and Ṭahir ibn ‘Abd-Allāh ibn Ibrahim ibn Aḥmad, as commentators, wrote their comments about the document. Although these docu- ments are in the form of fragmentary notes, they are rare primary sources that depict the events and the conditions of the siege, the conquest of Baghdad and the collapse of Abbasid Caliphate. This article, while providing images, revised texts, and translations1 of the documents, aims to introduce them and to explore the civil factors contributing to the fall of Baghdad. Given the significance of critical infrastructure for maintaining quality of life in cities, improving their resilience is of high importance to planners and policy makers. The main purpose of this study is to spatially analyze the resilience of water, electricity, and gas critical infrastructure networks in Ahvaz, a major Iranian city that has been hit by various disastrous events over the past few years. Towards this goal, we first conducted a two-round Delphi survey to identify criteria that can be used for determining resilience of critical infrastructure networks across different parts of the city. The selected criteria that were used for spatial analysis are related to the physical texture, the design pattern, and the scale of service provision of the critical infrastructure networks.

    Sandra Ghandi Al Azzeh, Education for Employment alumnus Sandra Ghandi Al Azzeh is an alumnus of Education for Employment (EFE). She graduated from Bethlehem University in 2012 with a degree in Hotel Management. Despite the challenging job market in Palestine she was able to find a receptionist position in the hostel of a local Lutheran Church. After three years there, she realized that there was no opportunity for advancement and felt that she was being exploited as a young worker. Looking to advance her career, in 2013 she applied for the hospitality training program at Palestine Education for Employment (PEFE). PEFE had partnered with Ararat Hotel, a luxury hotel and the second largest in Bethlehem, to help the hotel source entry-level employees with strong time management, customer service and communications skills needed for positions in the hospitality agency. After the month- long training course, Sandra was placed into a job at Ararat and has quickly moved up in the ranks, becoming a front office supervisor. She aims to become the general manager of a hotel, and wants to focus specifically on recruiting young, entry-level employees. Orestis Andreadakis, Artistic Director, Athens International Film Festival Orestis Andreadakis was born in Herakleion in Crete, studied cinema in Athens and Paris, lived and worked in Geneva and southern France. He has provided articles and reviews on film to the newspapers Eleftheros Typos, Avgi and Ethnos, and to various monthly and weekly magazines. These last few years, he has been the director of CINEMA magazine, the Artistic Director of the Athens International Film Festival and the Athens Open Air Film Festival, and film journalist for MEGA TV.
