Lepidoptera in Cheshire in 2002 A Report on the Micro-Moths, Butterflies and Macro-Moths of VC58 S.H. Hind, S. McWilliam, B.T. Shaw, S. Farrell and A. Wander Lancashire & Cheshire Entomological Society November 2003 1 1. Introduction Welcome to the 2002 report on lepidoptera in VC58 (Cheshire). This is the second report to appear in 2003 and follows on from the release of the 2001 version earlier this year. Hopefully we are now on course to return to an annual report, with the 2003 report planned for the middle of next year. Plans for the ‘Atlas of Lepidoptera in VC58’ continue apace. We had hoped to produce a further update to the Atlas but this report is already quite a large document. We will, therefore produce a supplementary report on the Pug Moths recorded in VC58 sometime in early 2004, hopefully in time to be sent out with the next newsletter. As usual, we have produced a combined report covering micro-moths, macro- moths and butterflies, rather than separate reports on all three groups. Doubtless observers will turn first to the group they are most interested in, but please take the time to read the other sections. Hopefully you will find something of interest. Many thanks to all recorders who have already submitted records for 2002. Without your efforts this report would not be possible. Please keep the records coming! This request also most definitely applies to recorders who have not sent in records for 2002 or even earlier. It is never too late to send in historic records as they will all be included within the above-mentioned Atlas when this is produced.

Abstract Additions, deletions and corrections are made to the Irish checklist of butterflies and moths (Lepidoptera). Elachista biatomella (Stainton, 1848) is added to the Irish list. The total number of confirmed Irish species of Lepidoptera now stands at 1480. Key words: Lepidoptera, additions, deletions, corrections, Irish list, Elachista biatomella Introduction Bond, Nash and O’Connor (2006) provided a checklist of the Irish Lepidoptera. Since its publication, many new discoveries have been made and are reported here. In addition, several deletions have been made. A concise and updated checklist is provided. The following abbreviations are used in the text: BM(NH) – The Natural History Museum, London; NMINH – National Museum of Ireland, Natural History, Dublin. The total number of confirmed Irish species now stands at 1480, an addition of 68 since Bond et al. (2006). Taxonomic arrangement As a result of recent systematic research, it has been necessary to replace the arrangement familiar to British and Irish Lepidopterists by the Fauna Europaea [FE] system used by Karsholt 60 Bulletin of the Irish Biogeographical Society No. 36 (2012) and Razowski, which is widely used in continental Europe.

Biodiversity Data Journal 4: e7304. doi: 10.3897/BDJ.4.e7304 Abstract Background The island of Öland, at the southeast of Sweden, has unique geological and environmental features. The Station Linné is a well-known Öland research station which provides facilities for effective studies and attracts researchers from all over the world. Moreover, the station remains a center for ecotourism due to extraordinary biodiversity of the area. The present paper is aimed to support popular science activities carried out on the island and to shed light on diverse geometrid moth fauna of the Station Linné. New information As an outcome of several research projects, including the Swedish Malaise Trap Project (SMTP) and the Swedish Taxonomy Initiative (STI) conducted at the Station Linné, a list of larentiine moths (Lepidoptera: Geometridae) collected on the territory of the station is presented. Images of moths from above and underside are shown. Of the totally 192 species registered for Sweden, 41 species (more than 21%) were collected in close © Schmidt O. Most of the presented data were gathered during surveys carried out by the author in 2008–2009. Further data, spanning the period 1972–2009, were kindly provided by other lepidopterologists. In addition, all published data have also been included in the study. In 2008 the author focused mainly on wetland habitats in the Blanice River floodplain, moving in 2009 to mountain coniferous forests in the NNM’s buffer zone. In total, 710 moth species are presented in the paper together with phenological data, where known, and the exact location of their records. Predominant habitat types are characterized by the lepidop- teran communities recorded therein. High species diversity was observed in wetland habitats near the Blanice River and the occurrence of many typical wetland species was confirmed there, e.g., Sterrhopterix standfussi (Wocke, 1851), Epermenia falciformis (Haworth, 1828), Orthonama vittata (Borkhausen, 1794), or Hypenodes humidalis Doubleday, 1850. Species-rich lepidopteran fauna of mountain forests in the buff- er zone were typified by Nemapogon picarellus (Clerck, 1759), Ypsolopha nemorella (Linnaeus, 1758), Anchinia daphnella (Dennis & Schiffermüller, 1775), Caryocolum klosi (Rebel, 1917), C. cassellum (Walk- er, 1864), Epinotia pusillana (Peyerimhoff, 1863), Elophos vittarius (Thunberg, 1788), Entephria infidaria (La Harpe, 1853), Perizoma taeniatum (Stephens, 1831), Phlogophora scita (Hübner, 1790), or Xestia colli- na (Boisduval, 1840).

This study presents a synthesis of the current knowledge regarding the Lepidoptera fauna of Bucharest and the surrounding areas within a distance up to 50 kilometers around the Romanian capital. Data about the fauna composition are presented: the results of the research work beginning with the end of the 19th century, as well the results of the research work carried out in the last 15 years. The research initiated and done by the author himself, led to the identification of 180 species which were unknown in the past. Even if the natural habitats from this region have undergone through radical changes in the 20th century, the area still preserves a quite rich and interesting Lepidoptera fauna. The forests provide shelter to rich populations of the hawk moth Dolbina elegans A. Bang-Haas, 1912, one of the rarest Sphingidae in Europe, and some other species with high faunistical and zoogeographical value as: Noctua haywardi (Tams, 1926) (it is new record for the Romanian fauna from this area), Catocala dilecta (Hübner, 1808), Tarachidia candefacta (Hübner, [1831]), Chrysodeixis chalcites (Esper, [1789]), Aedia leucomelas (Linnaeus, 1758), and Hecatera cappa (Hübner, [1809]). We also present and discuss the current status of the protected Lepidoptera species from the surroundings of the Romanian capital for the first time. Résumé. FOLIA ENTOMOLOGICA HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK Volume 79 2018 pp. 127–161 Data of Geometridae (Lepidoptera) from the Korean Peninsula in the collections of the Hungarian Natural History Museum – subfamily Larentiinae* Balázs Tóth**, Gergely Katona & Zsolt Bálint Hungarian Natural History Museum, Department of Zoology, H-1088 Budapest, Baross utca 13, Hungary. E-mails: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] Abstract – Data of 2597 specimens of 155 species collected in Korea from 239 collecting events representing the subfamily Larentiinae are presented. Five species, Electrophaes recens (Inoue, 1982), Horisme aquata (Hübner, 1813), Perizoma bifaciata (Haworth, 1809), Eupithecia inturbata (Hübner, 1817) and Eupithecia caliginea Butler, 1878 are new for the fauna of the Korean Peninsula and adjacent islands. Diff erential features, images of habitus and genitalia of these species are giv- en. Further 16 species are new for North Korea, 3 species are new for South Korea. With 13 fi gures. Key words – checklist, Electrophaes, Eupithecia, Horisme, new record, Perizoma, undescribed species INTRODUCTION Th e subfamily Larentiinae contains ca. 6300 described species, being the sec- ond most species-rich group of Geometridae (Hausmann & Viidalepp 2012). Choi (2003) made an important step in the study of Korean Larentiinae material preserved in the Hungarian Natural History Museum. He published data of 108 species from North Korea, including fi rst records of ten species from the entire Korean Peninsula. Later on, he made a detailed overview of the Korean Larentiinae fauna in a series of books (Choi 2012a, b, 2013, 2014). Th is paper summarises the Larentiinae material from Korea in the for- mat similar to the work of Bálint & Katona (2011), and is intended to be a continuation of that paper.
